Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XVIII ( TDL is March 7th)

Just because he is playing more engaged now doesnt mean that he was unengaged during the 23-24 season. He had a down season and still ended up scoring 70+ points and was PPG in the post season.

The 1st half to this season is another story. He was completely out of it. Definetly checked out and the complete opposite to what we expect from him. I have no idea if the roster chaos afftected him or if it was personal but seeing him play Oct-Dec was embarrassing. It was really bad.

Whatever the reason we should all be happy that he seemingly turned the corner.
Well it’s a small sample size, if he can keep it up for the rest of the season that would be good.

I do think the move to wing has helped, plus now playing with a good player in Miller who plays the right way, instead of a washed up Kreider or a lollygagging Panarin

Edit: nothing to see here
Will, not only did your parents have to meet, fall in love and procreate for you to be here, but so did their parents and their parents' parents etc. So, if we go back to the beginning of time there are millions and possibly billions or trillions of decisions that were made and actions that were performed and events that occurred in order for you to be here. You are a miracle and there is a LOT to see here...

... I'm going to shoot myself in the face now.

I know you're being sarcastic, but I've spent a lot of time there & it's beautiful, but SLC is a really weird place to live.

From an NHL player POV, Utah is probably on his "no" list simply as a carryover from the uncertainty & low budget mentality of the previous ownership.
Not hockey related but I'm sure it's great if you're a Mormon or can pass as one.

But if you're a member of a minority population... it's a weird place to be...and a tough place to do business.

You'd have to think that Utah is on his list of teams he's not going to.
Agreed.
Utah being actually decent was slightly unexpected, and the no trade list was sent before that. He may waive, but he likely has some reluctance to leave for a team that hasn’t been consistently good and in a more traditional hockey market.

1 cup in 85 years. This is the way.
I hear you, I guess the question is whether you think those deals cost us a cup.

I look at major rangers cup killers the past 30 years and I mostly see…

Cherepanovs passing
Nash, Richards, MSL declining faster than we wanted
Yandle being misused by the coach
Signing Boyle over Stralman

As the real things that maybe took a bit out of our chances to win it all.

Remember when Kreider, Hagelin, and Grabner were the fastest skaters in the league? Now two are retired and Kreider is a front net specialist who moves like an oil tanker. Meanwhile the average player can skate like them in their primes. Time goes on and the game evolves.
He can still go isolated bursts like he showed on his goal at 4 Nations
prob is some here insist he do that all the time, every shift, and his back won't permit that
then when I explain his situation may require a regimen of rest->extend->reduced extend->full tilt-> back to rest,
some peeps here refuse to concede this is even possible, and insist he go now, many w/some crazy notion that despite reality of his back = factual given, he brings us a haul now

wait. patience
as I said before, if his condition devolves, I expect him to do a Lou Gehrig and retire
until then, esp in totality of circumstances, he deserves benefit of doubt at min, and certainly not all this stupid hate

at this stage I think Kreider brings back a late first and young tweener like a Parssinen

Don’t think they’ll get much more
No, a team should not be that desperate to add a player who MIGHT, 1 in a 100 chance magically heal up for POs [and be durable all throughout].
A team being stupid enuf to do this their GM will not want to get his ass chewed out for it.

I get both sides of trading/keeping Kreider. But my issue is what if this the best its going to get? He clearly has chronic back issues/pain. What if an offseason does nothing to improve his play. If he ends up on the LTIR for most of next season, what value does he have then? I feel like this might be peak value right now.
1. regardless, the peak value is all time low now SO THERE IS NO PREMIUM RETURN peeps gotta accept that
2. If his physical condition devolves, he does a Gehrig, retires, we get cap back, and if we keep goodwill can hire him cheaply as coach to help w/youth

I wouldn't say Kreider is slow, he's just nowhere near as fast as he used to be.
agree, except as noted he can turn it on situationally in bursts when up to it
but yes, that is nothing like before this season

Kreider has to return a nhl player… or nhl ready prospect.

I really don’t care for a late 1st rounder unless we have another deal lined up
1. No he doesn't b'c damaged goods
2. Even if not damaged WE NEED YOUTH b'c we stupidly did not listen to me and did idiotic rentals in recent yrs

They have to weight the offers they get against their motivation to trade him. I would ideally be looking for a middle of the lineup player like Ryan McLeod or Morgan Geekie. I was surprised by the Lindgren trade, even if my head tells me no one wants Kreider in his current state.
bold: = finally we agree on something

The fact that we’ve moved both goodrow and trouba and retained zero, and actually gotten assets back, should be a clear indication that teams do still value “toughness” and “playoff experience “
Far more than this board does.

Kreider has scored 50 goals and makes less than 7m.
a move now is 3 full playoff runs.
sorry but yr post is wrong except as to the bold
dominant factor is
concerns about injured ck >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> classic ck who is NOT here now

how many PO runs s moot

Girardi & Staal Contracts
Zubov & Nedved trade JUST fits into your 30 year time frame.

One way to mitigate risk is conditional picks
like a 7th but it turns into a 1st if _________ x, y, z
3 or so of those + a better than decent prospect would be enuf value for 3 PO runs for Kreider
but why has that not happened?

b'c peeps, bern is right and suitors' concerns to his health are LEGIT and DOMINANT
