Rempe is more effective than people give him credit for. I said this when he was in Hartford, his size and strength as well as his playing style actually translates well to the NHL from the AHL. He doesn't really need to change much. Same goes for a guy like Edstrom and I'd venture a guess that Chmelar will be similar as well. These guys aren't there to make 1v1 moves and make perimeter plays. The areas of the ice they fight for in the AHL are the same areas they're fighting for in the NHL and in some instances, it's easier because there are more skill d-men at the NHL level than the AHL

The positive defense on that chart is entirely driven by on-ice sv%. The positive on-ice offense is driven by shooting %. The average-ness of his individual offense number is dragged up by his own shooting percentage. That's not the chart of a good hockey player.

There's no doubt he's improved, but still a ton of room for doubt that he's effective.

I think he will. The NHL will want him to for the marketing. He’d be a fool not to.

The likelihood is VERY small

- the Oilers are going to do everything they can to get him to sign.
- in the event that they feel like they can't, they are going to trade him either before the deadline (if they're out of it) or before the draft/UFA to a team that thinks they can.

I'd put the likelihood of him really, truly hitting the UFA market at about 5%.

He started the season on fire. I have no idea what happened to him but he was almost PPG at even strength.

Laf has always had a problem with the pace of his game, even in Juniors. Its the biggest reason why people think he is slow.

When he is on and moving around he is very effective. Other times he just exists on the ice. If he is mad or engaged or forced to move because of a game plan he is usually great, otherwise he hibernates.

Our team system is the worst possible mix of slow and soft, its like it was designed in a lab specifically to make Laf comfortable and useless. And it doesn't help that he seems to feed off Panarin's energy which has varied wildly all year.

I believe Drury will trade for players with term 2 or 3 years if possible. I do like Kunin as a depth player

Kunin, Sturm are both solid bottom six guys. But honestly SJ would be dumb to move them. They have skill coming up through the system - affordable veteran role players should just stay and guide the kids while taking the dirty, unglamorous minutes. But maybe Grier and Drury share the same “talent” for roster building.

They are both UFAs and if they can get anything they will . Waivers will be busy or Just send Kalyiev back if he’s not in the plans

Yep, didn’t look at their UFA status and for some reason felt like they had term. Probably because the poster I responded to was talking about Drury not trading for rentals either. Under those circumstances though, I have no interest in trading for UFAs. We shouldn’t squeeze in with Fox out. It would be a waste of assets. Zero issue with perusing either player in free agency, but I see absolutely no justification for trading for expiring contracts this TDL.

Agreed I’d only go for super cheap guys
My thought is at 2.75 and no retention spots Kunin is overpaid but NYR have tons of space so for a 6th sure

Guys will go cheap late like last year

Lafreniere is straight up lazy. He's improved on absolutely nothing. He made it to the league and put his feet up.
I 100% agree with you but I find it funny you write this bc a few months ago when I was talking about lack of work ethic and laziness on this roster you unequivocally slammed the comment claiming there was no way to to measure work ethic/laziness and instead claimed that the team/players weren't lazy they were just bad players.

You're coming around finally, there are players on this team are indeed "lazy."

There are also bad players on this roster.

Both are true.

It's not my view that this unequivocally doesn't happen, and maybe it's on me if it comes across that way.

I just kinda think the team is a bit ass right now, I have for awhile, and that's just kind of priority #1 for me. I don't think work ethic makes a bad team good. I don't think this roster is good with it without it.

I do think it's been a player development issue which leads to the roster being less good. That's certainly a thing.

I also have some player by player disagreements on it. It's often a side effect that people suggest hard-working players that I think just stink because you have to hustle when you can't keep up. I also think talented guys that don't have to work their asses off just to exist sometimes get thrown under the bus too quickly.

And look, player by player, we all just have an opinion on each guy, but I do think that's an important distinction to be aware of.

I am open to it as a talking point and I'm trying to be less dismissive. I think we're all annoyed this season and beat up each other sometimes.

I've had conversations with @McRanger92, for example, where it's like "ok, I hear you, but maybe not him"' and then we can find a player we both like.

I have also made fun of certain players who fit this criteria, and that's just me having fun, but I understand why it was taken dismissively.

Will Borgen is a guy who would walk in front of a train (which I do appreciate) that I don't think it's a bad defenseman. We can all win. It's possible.

Your former comment was a blanket statement discrediting the concepts of laziness or bad work ethic with regards go players/teams. I don't need a novel justification on your shift. Just happy you are coming around...

I’m ready for more trades. There’s a lot of solid pieces here. We all know the guys we need to move on from.

Panarin
Lindgren
Laf
Kreider
All the UFAs

I’m 100% ok with trading Schneider for a top4LHD

When Schneider got caught flat footed on the 3rd goal after Igor misplay, he had the face of a man on his way to Buffalo. Byram, McLeod, Cozens. One of them I don’t really care

Byram yesterday:

This is more egregious than anything any of our D have done this year. At least Lindgren is in frame when he's covering air.

If you hate our D now, you will hate Byram as much if not more than the guys who exist here.

This team is f***ed and changes around the periphery aren’t going to help.

Panarin needs to go. Buy into the Trocheck/Miller alpha Ameri-bro identity and see what happens.

I won’t have any hope that this team is headed in the right direction until the Panarin era has ended.

No idea who this is so it could be complete bullshit, but it would certainly be in the Rangers' MO to waste a mid-round pick on a bad defender in a throwaway season.

Unreal. If its true this GM is delusional. Unless its part of a bigger package to trade CK or Lindgren but doubt it

Lmao… Jokiharju isn’t without potential, but he’s almost the same guy as Vaakanainen. Been a bit healthier, gotten a bit more opportunity. I wouldn’t have a problem with him on our bottom pairing except we already have 3 RHD on the roster and he isn’t better than any of them. So unless Schneider is in a deal for an actual need (because Fox and Borgen with his extension certainly aren’t) you’d be hard pressed to explain to me how Jokiharju “bolsters” our blueline.

“The NY Rangers have a #1 D in Adam Fox, followed by capable #4’s in Miller, Borgen and Schneider, as well as passable #6s in Vaakanainen, Lindgren and Jones… look for them to ‘bolster’ their D by bringing in bonafide #5-6 D Jokiharju”.

Krieder for a 1st and bischel
Lindgren for a 1st
Smith for a 2nd and 5th
Vesey for a 4th

Bischell in for Lindy
Othmann in for krieder
Berard in for vesey.

Dude, we all wish.

Broke back Kreider is lucky to bring back a solid 1st right now. Bichsel is not remotely realistic… anymore.

Lindgren could have brought a 1st last year. We will be lucky if he brings a late 2nd this year.

Smith may bring a 3rd + 5th.

I wish your projections were accurate, but every one of them has sunk their own value this year.

Lindgren for a 1st

Vesey for a 4th

Bischell in for Lindy

hold Kreider at least for now DO NOT TAKE LESS bc injury

BREAD at half + for bish + 1st
Oth for Kreid when he's healing fine
but deal Vesey so there is a roster spot for him now
do not overpush Oth, he's playing well w/Rempe, etc
there is also room for Berard
