Rempe is more effective than people give him credit for. I said this when he was in Hartford, his size and strength as well as his playing style actually translates well to the NHL from the AHL. He doesn't really need to change much. Same goes for a guy like Edstrom and I'd venture a guess that Chmelar will be similar as well. These guys aren't there to make 1v1 moves and make perimeter plays. The areas of the ice they fight for in the AHL are the same areas they're fighting for in the NHL and in some instances, it's easier because there are more skill d-men at the NHL level than the AHL

The positive defense on that chart is entirely driven by on-ice sv%. The positive on-ice offense is driven by shooting %. The average-ness of his individual offense number is dragged up by his own shooting percentage. That's not the chart of a good hockey player.

There's no doubt he's improved, but still a ton of room for doubt that he's effective.

I think he will. The NHL will want him to for the marketing. He’d be a fool not to.

The likelihood is VERY small

- the Oilers are going to do everything they can to get him to sign.
- in the event that they feel like they can't, they are going to trade him either before the deadline (if they're out of it) or before the draft/UFA to a team that thinks they can.

I'd put the likelihood of him really, truly hitting the UFA market at about 5%.

He started the season on fire. I have no idea what happened to him but he was almost PPG at even strength.

Laf has always had a problem with the pace of his game, even in Juniors. Its the biggest reason why people think he is slow.

When he is on and moving around he is very effective. Other times he just exists on the ice. If he is mad or engaged or forced to move because of a game plan he is usually great, otherwise he hibernates.

Our team system is the worst possible mix of slow and soft, its like it was designed in a lab specifically to make Laf comfortable and useless. And it doesn't help that he seems to feed off Panarin's energy which has varied wildly all year.

I believe Drury will trade for players with term 2 or 3 years if possible. I do like Kunin as a depth player

Kunin, Sturm are both solid bottom six guys. But honestly SJ would be dumb to move them. They have skill coming up through the system - affordable veteran role players should just stay and guide the kids while taking the dirty, unglamorous minutes. But maybe Grier and Drury share the same “talent” for roster building.
