Speculation: Roster Building thread - Part XVII - (TDL is March 7th)

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates

You are free to dream up whatever you want though in the near future (2-4 years) the 2 roster players that 100% will not be traded are Fox and Shesh. On the prospects side i highly doubt they move Perreault.

I can see K. Miller and Kreider dealt in the summer. The Rangers will try to move Zib unless he sets the world on fire post the break though I doubt they find a taker.

Going forward this is Fox, Shesh, JT Miller and Trocheck's team. Add B. Tkachuk in there if the Rangers acquire him in a trade where Laff goes the other way.

Basically a core of hard nosed American forwards + one of the top skilled American defensemen + Shesh.

trading Kreider and Panarin to help solve depth concerns and open up cap space to then turn around and sign the right UFA’s is a smart move asset wise. It’s a mass of assets in and then signing free assets via UFA. I’m not sure Rantanen is the guy but Gavrikov?

I really like RB’s idea of Panarin for Fiala +. That would fit really well. See if you can get Clarke with him along with a 2nd next year and a 3rd next year. Fiala could provide really good speed and scoring on this roster and he’s 28

yes but kempe, who is better than fiala.

Tkachuk is Ottawa unquestioned leader. There is absolutely no way they trade him (unless there’s a known issue between a player and organization). Call it intangibles or whatever you want but coming up with a valuable package by Drury is not going to change Ottawa’s position. So whether it is Schneider or Miller is not going to make a difference. Whether it’s Othmann or Berard or both is not going to make difference. Taking it up a level even if there’s a consensus that Fox is a better player than Tkachuk (top-5 D vs forward who’s not even in top-10) without other factors will not get a budge from Ottawa on their position.

who's better jt miller or mike modano

im still buying this team over the next 3 yrs with JT as 1C. move panarin kreids and lindgren for some assets, find fox a partner and - as someone else said - get young wings to do the dirty work so the older Cs can do their thing. 1 more vet W to supplement our youth is a good idea. I prefer Kempe to Fiala...

Kempe Miller Lafreniere
Cuylle Zibanejad Perreault
Othmann Trocheck Berard
Edstrom Carrick whoever
Rempe
Thats a bubble team

whether or not they are actually traded, or should be to help overcome the stupidity of all those win now rentals which were epic fail [none other than Vatrano worth it], is another story

mark my words
luck is always a random factor
but without it, Rs are not gonna win
they need to repurpose vets into quality youth

Fox + Shesty have to go

Sorry yes. Care to make a wager that Fox is on this roster beginning of next year?
see above
recent history is replete w/many instance of bern saying something, Rs foolishly not listening to me, and I am ultimately proven correct

yes but kempe, who is better than fiala.
except he won't be made available

Extending the asset. The Panthers were in the same situation with Huberdeau and Weegar. The team lost to TB and management wasn't content with the status quo. Huberdeau and Weegar are both quality players but Florida didn't want to extend them. Florida packaged them together with a first round pick and sent them to Calgary for Tkachuk. Florida immediately paid Tkachuk and Calgary paid both of their new acquisitions. Huberdeau had an 8 NTC list and Weegar didn't have trade protection.

Colorado was in a tough spot with Rantanen who wanted $14M. Maybe he would accept a little less. The Avs traded him. They didn't want to wait until July 1 to make a deal. The Avs were in the same spot with Landeskog in 2021. They struck a deal with him at the last minute. Rantanen thought the same thing would happen with him. The Avs were not comfortable with the asking price. Rantanen had an 8 team NTC.

Panarin has a full NMC. The Rangers will have to approach his agent and explain the situation to them. Panarin waives his NMC in exchange for a contract extension with the acquiring team. He will be 35 at the start of the new contract. 2 or 3 years. The cap will be $104M that year. Panarin is on pace for 85 points. His lowest output in a while. All of the Rangers will end up with down years.

Peter Baugh was saying the Rangers will be a better team next season with Panarin than without Panarin. It depends on what the Rangers acquire. Make a hockey trade. The alternative is extending Panarin or self renting him.

The Rangers have Lafreniere and Cuylle. Drury should be trying to extend Cuylle. EF said there will be offer sheets with summer after Broberg and Holloway last summer. If the Rangers trade Panarin and Kreider, they will have to replace those goals. Kreider only has 16 goals this season. Panarin has 23 goals. His projection is 34 goals. Besides last season with 49 goals, Panarin hasn't scored more than 32 goals in a season.

Lafreniere should be better. Cuylle is on the verge of exploding into a 20-25-30 goal guy with more responsibility, I would like to see Cuylle play with JT Miller. A full season of JT. Othmann. Cuylle had 13 goals his first season. Thought he could have scored more. Othmann can do that. Be a pain in the ass. Perreault. Can the Rangers count on him to be a big contributor next season? Caufield scored 23 goals and 43 points in his first pro season. He barely played hockey during the Covid season. Dave Starman compared Perreault to Caufield. Will Smith and Cutter Gauthier have struggled in their first pro seasons but their teams stink. The Rangers need another forward like Fiala to replace the lost offense.

The Rangers will have $16.5M in cap space at the deadline. Drury sells Lindgren and Smith. Retains 50%. Creates more space. If Drury could somehow leverage the Rangers space by adding a player who can be absorbed into the Rangers $95.5M cap for next season. Drury doesn't have any draft pick assets left. Feels like a lost opportunity.

I think that this tournament will show Mika is still a good player and show Mika that there are other places for him that can be good for him and his family…He played hard today

If Mika gets back to being the Mika we know, he should be kept. He has played well in the new year. He can be the 2c behind Miller and in front of Tro. Kreider on the other hand is either just spent, or hurt. Either way, make the trade.

there is the hope Kreider may get healthy, and he is not long term at good $

zib, I'm glad he is showing more offense but lack of engagement on def remains unacceptable.
He is long term, too much $$$$$
first chance to dump him, even if you eat half, do it

If Kreider was hurt he would have missed more time or been on IR. He's spent. Father time is undefeated. One of my favorite Rangers but it's time to move on.
