That thief has been the only reason the Rangers are good for the last decade. Not his fault he not once had the teammates to do it.

Nash was a great two way player, but injuries and concussions manifested him, his contract was absolute dog shit in terms of value in return. Dude, the guy could barely pot 20 goals. How does 40 points per season in the last three seasons for 8 million dollars a year settle for you? That's being overrated.

Here's my unbiased take on Fast; first, he's not the most overrated Ranger the last decade. Not even close. That would be Mats Zuccarello who some people act as if Brian Leetch or Eddie Giacoman are being traded away. Zucs a nice player. That's it.

Fast is going to price himself out of here. It's in his best interest to look for north of $3 million maybe close to $4 and while I love him, he doesn't provide enough offense to warrant that kind of contract. If he takes like $2.25-$2.75, ok now we're talking but his agent should be fired if that's all he can get. He's going to be close to 30 and this is his payday. He's basically a diet Ryan Callahan and if he makes it to next deadline, Fast and Cally will have spent pretty much the same length of time in the Rangers org as each other (8 years as Fast arrived in 2012-13). And by Cally I mean he's going to begin breaking down at some point with the way he plays and his size.

I think the hope is as @Ola stated earlier, the organization is hoping that Virta or Pajuniemi basically play the Fast role with a little more offense. It would really help the rebuild if either of those two could turn into let's say a similar player to Viktor Arvidson or Jesper Brat.

I love Fast, when the NHL Store in NYC was selling Reeboke jerseys on clearance with customization, I chose Fast for my authentic, but I realize next year or maybe even this deadline if they sell high is most likely going to be his last here, and that's ok.

I like having outdated jerseys anyway, because I'm a jinx. Can't hurt anyone who isn't on the team.

I'm in the market for a Jagr.

It's funny, everyone here is trying to pawn off the Rangers DMen but it's pretty much the equivalent of trying to sell CDs on a street corner in 2018.

STL shouldn't trade for any DMen now. They're having a season similar to the 92-93 Rangers. They fired their coach and they have enough parts to move. They need to just suck it up, get a high pick, and come back next year with a plan. Imagine Hughes with Tarasenko, or having Kakko with ROR? Their pick is lottery protected.

I think Fast has been underrated not overrated — but is it me or has he been a bit flat this season compared to previous years? Does he have the same jump in his skating?

From my POV at least his play this year have been a bit disappointing.

I remember when there were some here OBSESSED with Fabbri. Some were willing to trade Kreider for him. Hysterical
Fabbri is 22 and still has good upside. What's your excuse for this? We can play this game for days.

He’s a good depth guy but likeky exposed in expansion again . Caught a break w Vegas taking Lindberg though

The NHL will award an expansion to Seattle later today. They will start in 2021-22. The NHL has another CBA to negotiate with the NHLPA. Each side has an opt out next September to terminate the CBA after 2019-20. The owners won't opt out but the players might opt out. Pressure point. If Seattle is coming into the NHL in 2020-21 and there is no CBA in place, the players have so much leverage. Seattle is paying $650M for their expansion and it would an embarrassing if they couldn't start the season on time in 2020. Their building may or may not be ready for the start of 2020 anyway.

The Rangers don't have to protect Staal and Shattenkirk with their expiring NMC's. Lundqvist doesn't have to be protected. The Rangers can protect Georgiev. Shestyorkin will be exempt assuming he signs an NHL contract next May. There isn't enough room for 3 goalies and the expansion draft is two years away. Difficult to juggle the playing time to satisfy everyone.

Andersson, Chytil and Howden are not exempt. Kravstov will be exempt assuming he signs an NHL contract next May.

$83M cap. The Rangers have $60,430,276 committed for next season. 15 players signed. Nine forwards, 4 D and two goaltenders. That figure includes the Girardi buyout, retaining $900,000 on Spooner and paying 1/2 of Beleskey playing in the AHL. $5,336,111 combined. That's a lot of money.

Good luck moving those contracts on D. Nobody wants Staal and Smith. The Rangers will be forced to take on bad money in return. The Rangers can retain for two more players. Maybe the Rangers can find a taker for Shattenkirk towards the end of his contract. $16M of the $26.6M is paid off in the 1st two seasons. He has had a horrible season. What's his value? He has a $6.65M cap hit. The Rangers aren't getting out those contracts with compliance buyouts or moving Shattenkirk for good return right now (Gomez and Gaborik). Skjei has been terrible.

Buchnevich and Pionk will be group II's with arbitration rights. Buchnevich was in DQ's dog house and broke his thumb when he started to produce. Pionk has been up and down. Good. Bad. What type of contract will they get? Both of them have arbitration rights. Even a two year bridge won't be cheap. Buchnevich produces when he plays. .558 points per game. $2.5M-$3M? Two year bridge. Maybe if he comes back from his broken thumb by the December 22 game against the Leafs and he has a great 2nd half, the Rangers sign him to a 5-6 year contract for $5M-$6M. He has been out for 3 weeks. They said it was a 4-6 week injury. They haven't said anything about Buchnevich getting back on the ice to shoot pucks. Give him the full 6 weeks. The opportunity is there for him. Zuccarello has one foot out of the door based on his comments last week. There is no one else. Stecher signed a two year bridge for $2,325,ooo per. Pionk has much better offensive numbers. $3M per on a bridge contract? Do the Rangers see how much it will cost for 5-6 years? They get locked in at a good number and they can always trade him.

The bridge contract was made for a player like Pionk. There's definitely room for growth, but some of his underlying stats are concerning.

Regarding Staal and Smith, respectfully disagree on their movability. Either of those players has value with some healthy retention. Maybe it's not much value, but I could see a mid-round pick in exchange for some retention. Bringing the cap hits down into the $3M range is pretty solid value for those two, even with all their warts.

I agree eating 50 on both and they are moveable but they won’t get much. Staal has more value then Smith

Does Staal have a no trade this year ? Expires in the off-season ?

If I were Gorton, I'd be fine taking on a similar length contract for a forward. 12 spots available for forwards. 6 for defense. Move Smith (who has a sub-$4m real dollar cap hit his final 2 seasons), take back a forward who is struggling. It wouldn't have to be the entire cap hit coming back either. Guys like:

Kyle Clifford
Zack Kassian
Trevor Lewis
Val Nichuskin
Martin Hanzal
The remainder of Beleskey's contract
Dmitry Kulikov
Riley Nash
Brandon Dubinsky
Jason Demers
Zack Smith
Marian Gaborik
Mike Condon
David Snlemko
Karl Alzner
Scott Darling

Lmao and ALL of that ended up being true and accurate. All of it happened, or didnt happen for that matter?

So whats your point? What are you getting on your high horse about?

Hagelin didnt get traded.

Mcilrath was a complete bust. Miller was a baby.

Hanzal wouldve been a good center to add to that team. We added Yandle.

Klein didnt get moved.

Edit: And Kassian is terribad.

Team went to game 7 of the ECF.

Go back in your hole. Fabbri has been banged up with injury after injury and is only 22. Talk to me when he becomes something

Ok, so he's exempt.

I thought this was another one of those RB "the players aren't actually human" deals. My mistake.

Not really exempt. Technically Seattle can claim him in the draft but as a pending UFA, I think it's unlikely.

That's assuming he doesn't sign a new deal of course

I hope the Rangers avoid making the mistake with Pionk that they made with Skjei.
