Im thrilled about this as a Ranger fan. Takes Canes out for JT and they give up Necas to bring in 2 UFA wingers. Chytil I think will be another Czech C on the move soon.

Rantanen is an interesting winger - for one thing, it’s basically Kaprizov and Rantanen as the top two wingers in the world. Kucherov is too much older than Rantanen to have the same value. For two, Rantanen takes over 500 face offs a year and is well over 53% on the draw. He still isn’t really playing center after the draw, but his ability to regularly lineup in the dot and win face offs makes him more valuable, IMO, than your average winger.

He’s also a 6’4 28 year old pacing for his third straight 100+ point season who kicks ass in the playoffs.

Pairing him with Aho is no accident. Before 4 Nations with team Finland. It’s a respectable gamble by the Canes. Moving out money with Kotka and Necas so they will prob look to extend.

F...honestly this takes all the fun out of our little run here. The key thing we always had over carolina was goaltending and the fact they never had an elite scorer. They'll be looking for a tendy too

Now VAN has zero leverage on Miller.

The price just went down

I think the opposite, now it's an arms race.

Everyone was worried when they got Guentzel last year, and we still beat them. Assuming we make it to the playoffs and face them again, I think we can still beat them. That would be hilarious.

Hate this for Carolina. Rantanen is slow, will age poorly, and won’t be the same player without MacKinnon. Have fun paying him $14 million Toolsky!!

It's not that much retention he's only owed like another 2.4M in salary for the rest of the year (and a bit more on the cap hit) and we don't know if all they are getting is a 3rd.

That’s still a decent chunk and they get Hall? I know Hall hasn’t been his normal self but just a 3rd? Has to be more

He’s going to play with Aho and Svechnikov. That line is going to COOK

Oh it’s Jack Drury to Colorado, not Kotkaniemi. That makes more sense

If Colorado wasn't planning on signing Rantanen, Necas is a pretty good get as a replacement. I thought they might get a little bit more, though.

Seeing the age of Carolina's defense and the amount of turnover they've had the last couple seasons, it's a huge plus for them if they can hold on to Nikishin.

VAN fans feelings toward the Miller situation have gone from bad to worse. This sounds even worse than the Zibanejad situation for us.

I think many of us appreciate Mika is playing smarter and harder lately. He’s definitely overpriced but i can live with version of Mika.

JT 50% retained for Chytil and a 3rd. Get it done drury.
I don’t see retention happening with all those years left on the contract.

They got Drury as well, plus 2nd and 4th round picks.

The real head scratcher in all this is Chicago only getting a 3rd for Hall and retaining 50% on Rantanen.

Yeah I would give a 3rd for him alone. Not counting the salary retention. Very odd deal for Chicago
