I only wanted JTM if it meant Mika going the other way. Now that it's possibly Fil + I don't know. I'm not so much worried about losing Fil (literal glass man), but more so the moves Drury will make in the coming seasons going for it with 3 old ass Centers. We have no window really, we have a window of middling 1st round exits. What really pains me is the amount of draft capital and prospects they could acquire this season for all the vets. A much stronger place to start a rebuild from than the Letter 1.0. Kreider will get a 1st plus for sure. Lindgren and Smith might even bring a 2nd/3rd. Vesey and Carrick will get interest as well. And Panarin would absolutely bring in a haul. Borgen is really solid. I wouldn't mind re-signing him if Braden moves to the left side to keep him in the top 4 otherwise I would think a serious contender would give up a late 1st rounder for him. I wish they would sell but it's obvious Dolan won't let them. They could really get a lot for all the vets and reshape the team even with Mika here.

HFNYR: Lindgren is the worst D-man in the NHL.

Also HFNYR: Lindgren will bring us a good pick back in a trade.

Vancouver balked at Rangers trade protections. They put out there a deal was almost done to try to put pressure. “Just take the deal”

Now they are shopping around to get something better or scare the Rangers into moving the protection. The Rangers certainly aren’t putting out there that Vancouver is “heating up” talks with divisional rivals multiple different times in the week since.

Hold tight and it will get done. Might need to come back and throw in some mid level prospect swap to nail it down. Rangers miss playoffs and the 1st shifts to next year.

Carolina would be batshit crazy if they sent Necas back.
They prospect hug. Necas is well past being trade bait. He should be a long term piece.

Carolina and NJ make the most sense for Miller. Both teams have a need for a player like him in their ranks. The Rangers and Islanders make zero sense for where each of them are at, but please oh please, let the Islanders pay futures for Miller so they're good enough to make the playoffs and crash and burn in the 1st round and be in mediocrity hell for the next 4 years.

Ironically, I like our defense now more than I did the group that started the season. Replace Lindgren with a competent #4 or #5 LHD and this is an above average group.

This is 100% correct. Only thing that was better was Miller-Fox. Somehow Schneider-Trouba wasn't a disaster. But it's nice to not have Trouba anymore and a legit #6 defenseman.

Small encouraging bit of insight from this though. Given the reports that Miller is a player that Drury really likes, you can assume any reservations or direction he has applies to all other situations as welll.

I.e.

Trade protections on our 1st, a must in any trade if we have to include it

He is looking to move Lindgren

I can understand the apprehension over adding an older player but the bolded is so dumb as their most recent (current?) window has a pair of 3rd round exits.

They aren't tearing it down to the studs nor should they. They have obvious holes and obvious players to move but theres also enough here to build around. Even if they make a trade for a vet, as others have mentioned here, that doesn't mean that they're going to roll with that player+ someone like JTM for the foreseeable future. It may happen this year but thats probably because some of the guys you and most of us would like to move on from are going to be tough to move mid season.

Then theres the whole thing with Mika and Panarin having NMCs. Rangers can try to move them and they can politely (or impolitely) tell them to f*** off and there really isn't a whole lot they can do about it. I do think moving Kreider would make Mika more agreeable so if you need step 1 to making that happen, it's something that won't be that hard to do.

Trouba-Schneider wasn't a disaster in the sense that they drove a shit load of offense in the time they spent together.

They also allowed a ton coming back. The very definition of everything is happening. I don't think it's really a good strategy but it makes for fun hockey.

I don't think the focus should be on replacing Lindgren with a 4-5 guy. They really need to find another legitimate top pairing guy and weld them together. Make up for all the f***ery you put Fox through carrying Lindgren around and let them play 25 minutes a night. If they want to give Schneider a crack at it I'm game with that, it may work.

You can make up the other 35 with whats left over and be more than okay.

Not an article. He spoke about it in his latest podcast episode.
I believe someone else pointed out, that’s brooks opinion. That he has zero source for that.

And as someone who’s seen Brooks’s terrible track record on opinions.

Drury can’t run this core 3 more years.
Panarins contract is up next year.
He’s can’t keep Mika as 1C.
Kreider has 2 years.

seriously there’s no way to run this core 3 years. His best hope with this core was last year or pull off a jt miller move now, and then perreault comes in and does a playoff run, and then move Mika in the off season.

Drury has shown a realistic approach to this team. I hated the kakko move, but aside from that he’s been accurate in where the problems lie.

He’s targeted pieces to fix the problem in the short term, and needs to make other moves to fix the long term.

The 3rd round exits may very well be their peak because the core has gotten older and the kids haven't improved enough. Will Mika and Kreider somehow get better the next couple seasons than their 3rd round exit versions? I have serious doubts. I like JTM a lot, I wanted him at the TDL a few season ago. But I don't know if he's the answer to getting the struggling vet core to somehow play better than their previous selves that got knocked out in the 3rd round. What this team really needed was their lottery picks to become franchise players and their other 2 top 10 picks to not be complete busts and at least be NHL rostered players.

If the team goes into sell mode, maybe they all waive their NMC. But we all know Dolan won't allow that again so soon. The Letter probably took a lot of selling to him about a vision for the future.

Welp, now we know I'm not an insider. Cats outta the bag. Damn.

I hope the Canes get him. I didn't even think of them and I think he would fit there better. They are ready to win and he might mesh well with their org ideals. They are a play hard and fast no exception group. May be a win for everyone included with that deal.

'Another' 3 years implies 3 years after this one, which would be running with this core through at least 27-28. The problem there is that the only players we have under contract for that time are Mika, Tro, Laf, Fox and Shesty, and even you bring that back one season you still don't have Panari and there's no way they wouldn't be replacing him in some fashion.
So methinks Mr Brooks may be been plucking thoughts from the void again....

I also doubt an actual Rangers source would be talking in 3 year terms, there's too much that can change in a short time for them to lock themselves in like that

Also it’s very clear that there was prospects included in whatever deal with Vancouver. Why else were those guys sitting if not?

So saying it was just Chytil, Lindgren and a 1st is likely wrong
