I honestly don’t know what to tell you / how you watch games if you don’t notice Strome. Kind of also falls into place that you think Lias’ play on the 4th line deserves a promotion.

I don't think Lias play on the 4th line deserves a promotion. I do think it's worth seeing what he can do in a different role though.

I think Howden's play on the 3rd line deserves a demotion.

There's a limited number of centers on the roster so if one happens the other has to happen.

Absolutely not. I was very excited to see better play from Andersson earlier in the season but lately he’s been a f***ing passenger on a 4th line carried by so called scrubs. How does it make him get a look at 3C is beyond me. Different role? Sure - in Hartford.

I have no problem with him in Hartford. They both should be there.

And he was awful. That’s what I Said
It was 18 games. What does that have to do with anything? What does that have to do with his current contract status? If he was on year 3 of a 4 year deal or something and his play prior was atrocious, I could see it. But 18 games? And then to end the statement with "he knows it", it doesn't make a lot of sense to be honest.

Of course it does. He was dealt from the isles to Edmonton struggled wasn’t great for Edmonton by any means before the latest contract. Comes here and finds his game. He’s on his 3rd team already. He has said he feels like he’s found a home here wants to be part of the long term. Making 3 mil and wasn’t performing no reason to leave again if he can get a solid contract with term. What’s hard to make sense of?

Because that isn't what you said lol. This statement provides a lot more context to your comments about his next contract and I would happen to agree.

I don’t know how that isn’t what I said I’ve been saying the same thing 4x4 more than fair for both player and team for the reasons stated but leave it at that.

And how do you suppose he’d be able to accomplish this if his client is still RFA? Surely not by sitting out.
It's not complicated, do agent things.
Call up Gorton and tell him his client is happy here and he wants a long term deal, see if Gorton is on the same page. If not, privately ask for a trade and find a GM that feels differently.
IIRC, Strome has one more season of RFA control so if they can't come to an agreement on a long term deal they drag it to arbitration, and with the numbers Strome put up this year (presuming he continues to be productive, even if not necessarily at the current pace) he can prob score in the 5-6 mill range. From there he goes UFA after the next season and after seeing how players like Hayes signed last year there will be a taker for strome on a 4+ year contract.

I don’t know about Strome. I think he is the kind of guy that teams have gotten burned on signing to long term deals. Especially as a rebuilding team, I think it would be wise to sell high there.

Gorton will laugh at any suggestions of over $5m. Most likely he will ask Strome to show what he can do again in his last RFA year, or do a very team friendly deal for 3-4 years that looks like $3.5-4.0-4.5-(4.5).

The Rangers hold most of the cards with Strome. He's got a good thing going here and he'll likely have to either take the Rangers offer -- assuming there is one -- or he can take his chances elsewhere. I could also see the Rangers opting for the single year of arbitration and then seeing if he can fetch a larger return as a rental in 2021. Lots of options.

Yeah, guess those 18 games told him a lot about himself as opposed to what he has been doing ever since.

I'm fine with selling high, but where are the Rangers going to get Strome's production next year for less than $4 million? 50 points in 80 games. It's not like the Rangers have a pile of prospects who are crowding Strome out. Maybe Chytil or Kakko hit that number next year, but simply replacing production is not going to make the team any better.

And this is the best way to look at it. A change in lines doesn't always have to be a promotion for the player moving up. It could very well be a demotion for the player moving down.

Same with PP units.

Like I said elsewhere, i'm in favor of keeping him around. He's a good veteran but still young. Perfect for a rebuilding team. And who knows maybe this is him finally "breaking out", I mean its happened before and he was a top 5 pick for a reason, the talent is certainly there.
