Definitely agree he should be moved, but I do think this is him going forward. It’s not like he’s getting lucky with points, I truly believe it’s actual development in his game
I would not be opposed to Hayes resigning in the offseason either
This is exactly why I wanted him signed to a longer term extension in the summer. This year’s Hayes is equivalent to last year except he’s getting more ice time and has better linemates.

It is what it is now with him, and he probably has to be traded. The one year deal limited him to rental value, and it’s a move I really disliked by Gorton. This Hayes is worth more than a 1st and B prospect, and it’s a shame if that’s all we can get.

I am starting to get more and more convinced that we should see what is out there if Ziba is traded. He is a very good C and I like him a lot in many ways. Admires him in many ways. He is rare in that he genuinely has the tool set to carry a team.

But doing just that is also a tremendously different task from a mental perspective. And in that regard he just isn’t there for me. His best shifts the last three games game when a Flyer chopped him at the back of the legs on the attacking blueline when the refs didn’t see, on the Philly feed at least you could see how he really was giving it to the refs afterwards. He was dynamite the following 2-3 shifts. This was late in the game.

To be able to be a leader for a young team like this you must be able to have those best shifts — when the teams needs it the most. You can’t only have them when someone pissed you off.

And don’t get me wrong, this is definitely not meant to be an argument that it’s worth it for us to get rid of Ziba. Definitely not. But on the trademarket he should be our most valuable asset — by far.

There is and have always been two camps on Zucc, and with this post I will probably come across as another hater who just repeats his opinion. Nobody remembers what someone else’s opinion was x years ago. But I’ve actually been a Zucc supporter from Day 1. Wrote about him before we got him, I defended him for a long time when Torts hated him and wouldn’t play him. And I’ve för a long time pointed out the leadership qualities on the ice that he have had, how he have set an example and made players around him better.

But I just don’t think that is the case anymore. I just don’t think he is able to protect the puck well enough anymore, find that room and slow things down and make those opening passes. He is a good NHL player, but we need him to be a go to guy that we can go to when we need a player that can buy us time and space. He hasn’t done that this year nor that well last year either. He of course has qualities in other areas.

I just don’t think that he is worth keeping around in relation to what we would get if we traded him and what he makes per year.

Namestnikov is playing better, great to see. He should become moveable and Gorts shouldn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. Sometimes Names is trashed, but I don’t mind him as a player the way he is playing lately. But I don’t think he is a fit for the future.

I wonder if Max Domi could have been had for Names? To bad that ship sailed. Gorts should be able to trade Names for someone else’s underperformer. Hopefully we can get someone like Max Domi...

Skjei is struggling but that isn’t worrying me much. Young D on a tanking team, we shouldn’t expect much more.

I would like to see Ziba, Zucc and Names traded. I would like to see Hayes resigned and Kreider kept and evetually resigned too if the numbers won’t get insane. The common demeanor for these conclusions can be labeled as that I just think Hayes and Kreider are better able to handle the roles we will want them to handle than Shatty, Zucc, Ziba and Names. If Panarin is out there he could be a good replacement for Ziba on the PP.

And I would definitely like to see Gorton try to get a good solid top 4 D — of course preferably a RD — with size. Can he find a Ryan Johansen for Seth Jones type of trade?

FWIW, we don't face the Kings until February, and EDM won't be until March.

Do we have any scouts that are based out on the west coast?

I think Friedman said on his podcast that this Hitchcock thing is Chiarelli’s last shot, and the Kings management are shocked about how bad they are, they’re both probably at stages where they’re willing to make a bigger move

We moved 5 guys at the deadline last year. I’m thinking we probably can do that again this year.

The easy ones Claesson McQuaid for picks.

Then you’ve got Zucc definitely gone but trickier what you get back. Do you squeeze a late first? My gut tells me it’s more a second and a prospect.

Hayes imo should get a first rounder and a legit prospect. Not a B prospect but a legit prospect. Montréal getting Suzuki in the pacioretty trade type of prospect. Or us getting Howden. The first rounder will probably be a late one but we should be adding a really good young player to this nucleus and another first there.

Then is there another guy that can be moved for picks. But may not be as easy. Namestnikov and Smith fall into this category.

So ideally you move another 5 or so pieces before the deadline and get a massive haul back like you did last year.

I'd want to gauge the market on Claesson, but he's also not a bad player to re-sign.

I think re-signing him will depend on: If Smith is traded and if they expect to have one or two LD prospects make the jump for the whole season.

Freddie is an RFA at the end of this season. I don't think he's 100% gone at the TDL.

Exactly, I really think we need to talk to Edmonton about Zuc. They are desperate to make the playoffs this year, Chiarelli's job is on the line and getting a Yamamoto or maybe Puuijarvi for Zuc would help both teams.

I love how almost everyone except for Webster wants to trade Zuccarello. When a Zuccarello trade was proposed here before this season, you would have thought someone borrowed money and not only refused to pay it back but also insulted that person with every slur/insult imaginable and called his woman an ugly bitch.

Why do you "hate" Zukey? What did he ever do to you? So now we're trading Zuccarello. Loved those responses.

The Rangers should keep him for forever and ever. Give Zukey an 8 year extension because he can play until he is 40 too just like MSL. Zukey didn't come to North America until he was 23 and he didn't become an NHL player until he was 26 so he can play until he is 40. People use that same argument with Panarin. The player who hasn't scored a goal in 12 games. He has 2 goals in his last 18 games. He came over at 23 and he should be good for forever too. The guy wants $11M and is on pace to score 18 goals.

The Rangers missed their chance to trade Zuccarello for something really valuable. Gorton traded Brass for Zibanejad and a 2nd. They got back a better player who is six years younger. Brass had three years remaining on his contract. Zuccarello has 4 months remaining on his contract.

The Athletic did a feature last week on which players are untouchable to available on every team. Carp wrote Zuccarello's value is a 2nd and a prospect. That prospect better be a former 1st rounder because that would be a bad return.

The Rangers need a healthy Zuccarello so they trade him in late February. He may not play again tomorrow night.

McQuaid has been out for a month. The Rangers need to get him back soon. He has to show other teams he is healthy enough to contribute to their teams. McQuaid only played 38 games last season. He missed 3 months with a broken fibula. The Rangers never said what is wrong with McQuaid. LBI. There are not many rental D available so the Rangers can do better than a 4th and a 7th.

I liked the old shtick better.

But it is nice to see you back now that we've lost a couple of games.

There’s no reason to sit one of Pionk, ADA or Shattenkirk to showcase McQuaid. Let’s be honest, it’ll be ADA coming out of the lineup. It’s not worth sitting him for long stretches chasing a late 3rd at best, more likely a 4th or 5th rounder.

Cut your losses. Offer him up. Teams are only gonna want him for depth anyway. No ones gonna be surprised by his play and offer something better than we gave up.

Spot on.

I'd rather have ADA in the lineup developing (and let's be real, it's gonna be ADA scratched every time, not Pionk or Shattenkirk) than a 3rd.

And I think getting a 3rd for McQuaid has always been a bit of a fantasy, or at least an absolute best-case scenario. He's worthless.

Problem with Claesson is it's a numbers game. Hajek is in the wings and will play in the next year. Freddy is a nice player but he's easily replaceable. If they can get a 3rd for him it's a huge win.

I love how he comes out of the bushes once the team loses again ready to try and shove it in everyones face how he, and he alone, wanted to trade Zucc before the season. Forget the context of the discussion that took place and that is we had no clue what we were going to get from the kids. No clue that Howden would perform this well. That Chytil would find his game. That Andersson would be recalled only a month plus into the season. We had to let the team play a bit to see where we stood. We need the filler veterans for roster spots and to have a mix with the young kids. Trading Zucc before the season would not net us much different of a return then compared to now or even at the deadline. Its just having Zucc who might have produced did not fit his agenda of icing a team to lose on purpose. Sorry cant get behind being a pathetic franchise that tanks. If youre not good enough then fine, let it run its course while trying to look like an NHL team.

The all mighty know it all, condescending posts are played out. He is a better poster than this

Good, NYR need to take advantage of these desperate Franchises.
The Rangers, if nothing else, are not in any rush. Which is a nice ace in the hole. As you say, there are a number of desperate teams out there.

Good point. McQuaid is McQuaid. He just really has to prove he’s well.

If he’s healthy he’s a good piece for a playoff team. He may be a deal sweetener, but I’m pretty sure he’ll be a decent commodity, if he’s not injured when the trade deadline arrives.

This isn't like Hayes/Zucc/Nash/Grabner who were/are under our control. Every team in the league could have signed McQuaid in July.

If they didn't want him for free then, I'm not convinced they want him for a 3rd at the deadline.

Rangers traded for him, no?
