Is Dallas still lookin to possibly move Spezza?
Probably. 8 F + 4 D + 1 G and they have $17M in cap space right now, that's not assuming any cap space Spezza would net them another $7.5M... They could make a HUGE free agency splash with that kind of money. THey have this coming season left with Seguin on a $5.625M contract. After that he needs a raise, probably something to get him up to near what Benn makes--$9-10M

I'm assuming as much. I just think the Yotes would be hard-pressed to pass on the next Tkachuk.

Here's the thing, if Tkachuk is going to be the next Tom Wilson (kind of like his brother Brady), then he just might be worth a top 7 pick... We haven't a guy like that in a long ass time

You may think they don't care about that. But ownership might. The franchise has a dubious future in AZ. They're looking for a new building. This is the kind of PR move that they could feel would help energize the fanbase.

Do you know who their GM is?

It won't be a factor. If they like him they'll take him but with everything I know about the way they run things out there I very much doubt that he'll be their pick.

So Marc Staal's contract becomes a modified no trade clause starting next season. I can see us starting the year with Zucc and him, if we suck hard, we'll ship those guys for more assets.

I think he'll still fetch us something, specially if we retain some money. His contract is the only reason he looks like a total trainwreck.

If an actual train had a 6X6 NMC contract and crashed into Disneyland, it wouldn't look as bad as Staal.

No one is taking Staal's contract straight up.

The secret is out, the league knows he stinks, can't skate etc

You're either attaching an asset to him to get rid of him, or taking back an equally awful contract

Training camp and the 1st month of the season will be interesting to see what Quinn does with Staal.

We had the same conversations about Girardi. Everyone thought he could be traded to a team looking for 'veteran leadership'.

You're not getting rid of Staal unless you attach a prime asset and take crap back, or he's in the last year of his deal and we retain 50%

MSG and Brooks did their best sell job this past season to make it seem like Staal had a good year and was improving

It ain't gonna help though

3rd pairing please

Custance wrote up his Top 20 Big Board in regards to trades.

14. Vladislav Namestnikov, New York Rangers
This is more of a placeholder for any number of Rangers than it is an indication that Namestnikov gets moved, but the Rangers are certainly listening. They have four forwards who are arbitration eligible — Namestnikov, Kevin Hayes, Jimmy Vesey and Ryan Spooner. One source said he thought it was unlikely the Rangers started next season with all four of those players on their roster.
Another called the Rangers open for business.
“They are open to anything,” said the executive. “I don’t think they’re set on moving one particular guy.”
Namestnikov had just four points in 19 games after being traded to the Rangers. But with back-to-back 20-goal seasons with the Lightning, he’s going to get a big raise this summer.

NHL Trade Big Board: 20 players who could be on the move...
