Why would you say that?

Hayes had 44 points last year, Lindholm had 44 points last year. Hayes is LH, Lindholm is RH. Hayes is 26, Lindholm is 23. Goals favor Hayes @ 25 to 16 and perhaps Hayes is a more polished player and defensive player but Lindholm is a good 2-way player as well.

To me this would be a nice deal for this team.
Lindholm is not a matchup center and Hayes is. Lindholm has also been more effective at wing. Can't Stat watch players

I think Hayes+ will be moved for a d-man, Fox or Hamilton. Trouba could also be a possible target.

And I have a feeling they will make a deal with the Pens for Hagelin.
You are suggesting Hayes+ for Fox? You see Fox and Hamilton on the same level? Gotta disagree on those values.

Seems odd he took so many face-offs this year and yet exclusively played wing? I remember seeing him play center prior to this year.

And calling Hayes a matchup center is a new revelation. He was thrust in to that role this year and did well but it's not like he has been some amazing defensive player over his entire career. It requires an effort which others can achieve as well

I think it's pretty certain Tavares will re-sign, but he'd be crazy not to hold off and at least have other teams pitch to him

Apparently this is saying Linholm may be dealt and Hamilton's name is coming up. You know who would ft in well here? Hayes.

Hayes to Calgary, Hamilton to CAR, Lindholm to NYR. Add parts and pieces to even it out.

Interesting proposal valuewise with three guys rumored to be available. I am just not sure if I think Elias Lindholm is good enough. He is not really a dominating skater. That is my big concern.

Why is it certain?
It just seems that way to me.

Putting aside the Islanders hate people have, they have competent leadership at the top willing to do whatever to fix things, and now seemingly a coach to go along with it

If it were me, I would wait and hear the other 5 teams he was gonna meet with out, but maybe he feels different

They may have proven to him that they are doing the right things. If they pay him what he thinks he is worth (or close), and he likes where he is at, why wait? I mean, the Islanders can give him the 8th year, no one else can. So even if he gets slightly less per year, he will most likely make more overall.

Isles are also in a tough spot with him.

You can't really let him walk and expect it to go well but the contract hes going to get is going to be a bad one.

He's a franchise player, you can afford to overpay players like that. What you dont want to do is overpay middle pairing dmen like Shattenkirk.

I never said lindholm played "exclusively" at wing. Please read my post and don't put words in my mouth. Faceoffs taken are not always an indication of where a player play. Claude giroux took a ton of draws this year but played lw, David Backes took a bunch of draws but mainly played rw. Being good at Faceoffs does not mean you playcenter on shifts.

And an argument that Hayes wasn't used as a matchup center is ridiculous. He played as one and produced the same amount points as lindholm in that role, with limited pp time. I believe lindholm was on the 2nd pp unit for the canes

Calm yourself, I wasn't attacking you. I was asking a legitimate question as I assumed you saw him play quite a bit as you said 'can't stat watch players'. You know, having a conversation vs attacking/bashing which occurs with regularity around here.

I also didn't say Hayes wasn't a match-up center, but it was a new skill he learned based on necessity. It's not like prior to this past year he was some defensive stalwart. He was not.

Who peed in your cheerio's this morning, jeez...
