Maybe I should have put this here.

First off, the zucc stuff is weird. I think RB might be on to something with it being Zucc’s brother (and then it wouldn’t be so weird, then it would be funny, and kinda cool)

But regarding the rangers. Look, if the other team is willing to move the guy, the rangers have the pieces to get that guy, if they want to draft a guy, they have the pieces to get that guys.

I think this is a unique opportunity, I think the needs of other teams are such that the rangers and the other teams can each win the trades, and I think the rangers should be really aggressive in getting those players and picks to take such players. Pay the premium when the juice is worth the squeeze. Don’t worry about public opinion

Don’t think they will cause they are basically telling the team we are gonna blow lol

But they are gonna blow. Reality says they will be picking no worse than 4 again next year...with a pretty good shot at a top 3. Imagine if they keep this year's pick and then hand over Hughes to Col next June. Ouch.

Calgary is going after Hayes, according to SNY.

And The Athletic says teams are calling the Rangers about Zibanejad. Huh? I thought the Rangers don't have much of a center depth.

Gorton has let the league know "we're open for business"
Your stepping it up by adding the avatar. I like it. Thick like syrup. Don’t worry bro, even if zucc gets traded. He’ll resign with the rangers next summer. That’s the one guy I see going and coming back. And then everyone will love him all the more. and then you’ll be happy Fabian. And I’ll be happy too.

Next summer (after a trade). Zucc signs a one year deal with the rangers (to help them and him with expansion protection) and then he’ll sign a thanks for your loyalty contract that let’s him play his career out here.

Ottawa, however, is dumb and may think "we won't be this bad next year!" and will end up keeping the pick this year anyways
I see it the other way. Ottawa has to play out the entire season hoping for dead last and then still they only have a 20% chance of #1. They are at #4 right now. Isn’t the probability still that they would pick right around there. It’s a full year out from next years lottery, what if they are only the 6th worst team and end up with 5-7 next year and give the 4 away this year.

Ottawa needs everything they should NFL style and pick best player at the most important position available. That’s c, rd. I would keep the pick and go with Dobson if I were them. RH 1st pairing potential. Under control for another Karlsson tenure. This draft seems like it’s gonna be a golden one, I wouldn’t move this years #4 for a %20 chance at best for 1OA next year

I don't get why so many people are against trying to trade for Panarin.
I would do it for .75 on the dollar.

They could have Hayes as the main piece back, roughly same age but worse production, still reliable, but he is an RFA this year and they can lock him up at more reasonable cost - include some picks as well, one of our late 1sts this year and maybe something like our 2nd next year

Panarin just turned 26, is a stud, and would fit in perfectly well with our forward group and movement. Gorton wants to get NHL players, not old vets, but still experienced players - we have traded enough for unproven assets.

Worst case scenario is Ottawa losing the lottery next year while being ranked the 31st overall team, yet they can still only pick no later then 4th if they lost the lottery. Just like Colorado did last year. That team is going to be truly awful next year. If they trade Karlsson then they are a lock for finishing dead last.

Yeah thank heavens we avoided that talented winger who can produce.
Do you really want a player like kovalchuk who will score a couple of clutch goals down the stretch to put the team in the playoffs only to get bounced in the first round?
Or is the sound strategy, let the kids get their feet wet, get a couple of high picks in 2019 and then look to signing someone who can put them over the top?

A hypothetical Hayes/Hanifin swap would be like a mini Johansen/Jones swap.

IF we trade Hayes, I’d hope it’s for a guy jn Hanifin’s mold at the very least - a young D on the verge of breaking out.

Yea I’d be for that deal . Have Cs coming

I think Ottawa's decision on the pick should depend on what they do with Karlsson.
Keep it if they're keeping Karlsson. Give it up if they're gonna be without EK next season.

Carolina is rumored to be in the market for a 2nd line center. I make that trade in a heartbeat.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned here while discussing retaining salary and it might have changed with the new CBA. But as I remember, you can only retain for 3 yrs max, so even if Edmonton retained on lucic, years 4 and 5 the rangers would be on for the full hook.
