So f***ing what???? Do you want a list of high profile players that scored less in that minuscule season window??? Are going to explicitly say what you’re trying to imply now that Kakko is better than Lafreniere or better than those players too? I don’t get the purpose of this narrative (and yes that’s right - acquiring Kakko and him getting points hasn’t helped his new team - also in a small sample size)
i'm not implying kakko is better. to the point at hand, we shouldn't trade laf and schneider for miller. that's insanity. this team is not in a position to compete.

the bigger kakko thing is - we shouldn't have traded him. we shouldn't be trading anyone under 25. Borgen is a good player and a decent asset, but unless we're going for it... is he really a build around piece?

so to answer your Q - so what? so we shouldn't trade laf for a 32+ year old. so we shouldn't have traded kakko for a UFA 3rd pair D and some f***ing shitty picks. it's just bad business, and my hope is that seeing him flourish elsewhere will precipitate a change in how business is done.

also, maybe some of you will stop being so bitchy about when young players don't meet your personal expectations, and you'll appreciate how important it is for organizations to properly develop players and people. not you though, @effen, i know your mind is made up!

FINALLY!!!
confession is good for the soul
you did everything except admit I was right about this way back when at sq 1
does this mean you are now ready to join team bernmeister?

Jones and Vesey have not even been in the lineup and they probably only bring some low draft picks so I don’t get how you conclude that trading these two would make the team more fun. What am I missing?
Whatever they get could be used for something else, or we call up some guys from Hartford and get to see what they got.

Nah, it was going nowhere in New York. The issue was the timing. Either should've done the deal during the summer, or frankly in the summer of 2023, or tried to hold on to him until TDL.

Obviously, there is the bigger issue with how this franchise develops and deploys young talent, but holding on to Kakko wouldn't have changed that one bit.

Sippin coffee and catchin strays catching up with work emails on a Saturday morning...

I have no idea what you're referencing here btw.

Laf can join a rush very well, as he is very good at being involved in high skill plays; but, he doesn’t really carry the puck himself to manufacture the zone entry or the big play itself often. He wouldn’t work so well at center because of that I think. The lack of being able to carry the puck up ice and create has been one of the biggest declines in Mika’s game.

Trading with Vancouver feels much more likely to have JT involved, but I have no interest in including Schneider for an over 30 player

Chytil, Schneider, Garand, Berard for Pettersson
Garand is the cost controlled backup for the next five years. He may even have periods where he becomes the starter for long stretches.

Berard could turn into a 50 point player.

Let Schneider have a James Patrick like Rangers career.

Man...imagine how much more fun this team could be to watch with 4 simple moves.
1. Trade Jones
2. Trade Lindgren
3. Trade Kreider
4. Trade Vesey

They are likely going to keep Smith and Borgen. Truth be told, they probably keep all of them cause we are the Rangers and hockey is stupid here.
Where is the rest of this post? How can you determine it would be more fun without knowing what they would get back and quite honestly 2 of the guys on the list are not playing. There are about 6 others at least you left off that have totally sucked this year. The fun only starts when the players... and I mean everyone starts playing better.

it's referencing your opposition to the idea that rangers are organizationally deficient in forward prospect development. it's good natured, i respect your opinions.

Oh. Yeah I mean every org is full of good hockey men from Saskatoon and Moose Factory and they all have the same ideas about development because hockey's been around for 120 years and it's been 200x85 for much of that.

When they're not (that lady from Vancouver who flamed out, Chayka in Arizona who flamed out) we get think pieces and media coverage and then they disappear. In the age of sports analytics if there were different ways to do things that worked, we'd see it.

No amount of development kept Kaapo Kakko from trying to beat guys 1 on 1 in the NZ with stickhandling. He didn't do it because he couldn't do it. If he could, he would. That's... as far as it goes.

I also disagree strongly with infantalizing grown men making millions of dollars doing something they've done their entire lives but skills coach Mike Chicago prevented Alexis Lafreniere from being able to transport the puck through the neutral zone with speed because, uh, reasons. That's just stupid.

If you’re taking the time to post and argue about the construct of a hockey team, you’re basically bitchy by nature no matter what side you happen to take on any particular issue. Myself included.

Imagine Jones made this pass. Hughes was right back on the ice a minute later activating in the offensive zone

Not that I disagree with letting young players f*** up but Luke Hughes has been Wolf shit for the last month.

Being a high pick and having a prominent sibling on the team helps a ton. We’ve seen what being Fox’s friend has done for Lindgren.
