I don't know about that. If NYR say we can't continue to play you. Would you prefer to be a healthy scratch for the rest of the season or help choose a trade location I'm 95% sure he chooses a trade.
Concur.
Have been sayin for coupla months now.
NYR are allowed to healthy scratch a player due to poor performance.
You said for the rest of the season. Not happening.
@NickyFotiu is correct,
@Siddi is wrong.
It is obv there has been poor performance.
We are obliged only to pay him not play him
NHLPA may not like it, but they will bend, buckle and break to that reality.
As to rest of the season, rest of the contract, no big whoop.
He is told to work on his game, and allowed the occasional show up for practice.
At that pt, in coach's opinion, he is either not sufficiently improved or not a better option than alternative.
NHLPA may enter as to discipline etc but can't force teams to accept piss poor performance.
And also, if the Rangers came to Mika with the threat to scratch him unless he waives you bet your ass the NHLPA would sue.
Stop galaxy braining.
Does not have to be an expressed threat
Could be de facto implied, but overriding legally imo would be that factual basis of zib non performance = legit basis to scratch. Other than MAYBE a periodic chance to entertain level of improvement, club has no further obligation to the player. And the assessment of the level of improvement is in discretion of the club, not the player.
Instead of "Stop galaxy braining" start thinking big to get big solutions to big problems.
I think they could functionally just scratch him and pay him to sit. I doubt there would be a grievance there. That could "encourage" Mika to waive. That said, that kind of treatment of a vet would do more harm than good for the Rangers, and the Rangers know it. It wont happen.
The bold is true. It costs us $$$ and eventually a buyout may be more desirable b'c it recovers a roster spot.
As explained above, no legit basis for a grievance.
I agree that TYPICALLY this sort of approach is counterproductive and undesirable, but in this case, I think the disrespect of certain players combined w/arguably lackluster effort-> results = no blowback in this instance
They can just scratch him with out the threat of waving him.
While you’re right that the PA would have a grievance if they voiced a threat, the coaching staff is under no obligation to play him.
I don’t think it will or should get to that point. If there’s anything that’s going to be resolved on the Zibanejad front, it’ll come during the summer.
Simply do not voice the threat
Implied is good enough
and I want Zib gone NOW
Which proves the point, NF -- the final decision is still Mika's as he could decide to spend 5 years in the press box just for shits and giggles. He'll collect his $40 million (?) and grow his DJing career -- best of both worlds if you think about it.
If he opts to sit 5 yrs -- which won't happen b'c at some pt we waive him -- or maybe we don't to deny him an opportunity to play elsewhere after clearing -- that is not good for him, either.
It is fully worse on 2 fronts.
First, does nothing for him to advance his career after this contract.
Second, at some pt, he has to tell his little girl why daddy is not playing the team even though he is under contract. THAT HUMILIATION will force his hand
