I keep seeing that Drury is an idiot but all he has done is trade Trouba and find a way to get rid of Goodrow without giving up any assets to do so and created ~$12m in cap space. I understand he's not batting 1.000 but c'mon people. Relax with that stuff and provide a nuanced take a bit

My man, it's the big picture that counts. And I gonna go on something here, that is by no means a stretch:

Anybody and they grandmama could have waived Goodrow, and traded Trouba for an underwhelming return.

That Igor contract is tough when we need so much

Underwhelming return?! Dawg Drury got rid of Trouba with no penalties lol. He didn’t need to eat any money on retention or sweeten the pot with draft picks for the ducks to take on the full contract.

He actually got the Ducks to give us something for him.

That's including the boards narrative of a player with no value, while he has actual value in the NHL economy.

It's like people just like being upset.

Before Trouba was traded, everyone was accepting of the fact that the Rangers were either going to have to pay something to move him or take back a contract or two. Neither occurred.

Before Goodrow was waived, everyone said they would have to buy him out (yuck), retain salary and accept nothing in return, or pay assets to move him. None of those things occurred.

I get it, he isn't perfect, but calling the guy an idiot when I would say that both of those moves seem to indicate an above average thought process seems far-fetched.

It took him 45 seconds to turn half of that cap into what will most likely be one of the worst contracts in the league

From player to manager, the guy has to have one of the most unearned reputations in NHL history.

Amazing what playing fourth or fifth fiddle to Sakic and Roy on a legendary Cup run can do for you. Earns you a lifetime job in NHL front offices.

Buddy, in this case we have a very good reason to be so.

Those were all weak board narratives, that I personally never gave a damn about. And you certainly shouldn't say "everyone" here. I always said there is returns to be had on these players.

I get it, he isn't perfect, but calling the guy an idiot when I would say that both of those moves seem to indicate an above average thought process seems far-fetched.

He cleared 11 million off the books and gave part of that to Igor, on badly timed re-signing.

I don't know what to tell you, all in all, Drury's tenure here has been an incredible gong show, and it affected the room so much they stopped playing.

The fact that the first thing he did with that was give a 29 year old goalie an overly rich 8 year immovable contract based on recent comps does not inspire confidence

i give him almost no credit for the Trouba deal or the Goodrow thing. he got bailed out by other bad GMs. i still can't understand why either of those teams wanted them.
