He mostly talks about getting tougher. Many people on this board frown when people speak about the importance of toughness and hitting.
Most people on here frown when it's mentioned as a replacement for skill, rather than as a compliment to it.
I don't think I've ever really seen anyone on here hate on 'tuffness', it's usually related to hitting that leaves you out of position (Trouba) or sideshow fighting.
Most everyone would love us to play like the Panthers, and understand that the toughness needs to be a teamwide commitment to being hard to play against, not 1 or 2 guys who like to break faces

I can f*** with this. Minus overpaying Bennett. What's your projected defense? It needs to be totally rebuilt outside of Fox and Schneider, IMO.

I didnt think too far ahead with the D, only that it needs to be completely remade outside the guys you said. I think the cost for Cozens would be Schneider and im willing to pay that in this scenario.

I’d almost prefer to trade Miller to Schneider

That is possible but some also seem to have something against hitting and think it is an either or situation. Some think hitting takes guys out of position. Some prefer finesse stats based only play and do not understand that toughness and fear still play a role in games. When I say fear I'm not talking about fighting. I'm talking about guys not wanting to be first to a puck because they know they will have to pay a physical price.

Garand has been nearly perfect the last few weekends. He has a few more like that, time to bring him up and spot start him. Need to find out how he does at the NHL level. Having a cost controlled 1B/35 game backup the next 4-6 years doesn't seem so bad.

Trent Frederic should be the main UFA target this upcoming summer. Form a shutdown PITA line.

For the draft, a top 4 pick would be a blessing. Hensler, Schmidt, Potter scream Rangers/Drury type pick to me otherwise.

Unless they can get like two firsts and a prospect for Panarin, hold onto him and don't ask him to waive until next TDL. He's the driver of the offense.

Give Edstrom an expanded role. If this season is tanked, let him PK so he's a pro next fall.

Sign Kunin to add more crazy to the lineup.

I'd keep the coaching staff minus Housley but if Lavi is gonna go, give the keys to Peca and Muse.

Making Peca the interim or new HC is intriguing

I like most of this but can’t speak to housley. We have no idea what’s going on there.

What's an overpay? I think Cozens needs to be looked at through the context of getting him away from Buffalo. ROR, Reinhart, Eichel. Many such cases. Is a big workhorse center the same age and contract length as Lafreniere not exactly what we need?

Id think long and hard about a Schneider for Cozens swap. Schneider got benched the other night. It sucks but its true, because I really like the kid. But it's not happening as fast as we need it to happen. I think this team needs a young C with talent far more today and tomorrow then they need Mini-Trouba. We did just trade for a RD in Borgen and have Mancini in Hartford.

Can I say I like Torts and Avery, and watching them spar had helped the game of hockey? Happy to witness it up close as a Ranger fan. The NHL loves its soap operas.
I think it takes more than Schneider for Buffalo to listen.

I really hope the Rangers don't throw a Trouba contract at Chychrun. That's literally be making the same mistake again.

Let Schneider be that guy who is here a decade and is just solid. Let's not reinvent the wheel.

Sean Avery was the right kind of Ashhole.
Torts was the was the wrong kind of ashhole.
Self righteous, pompous scmuck.
Avery was one of the most overrated Rangers of all time. He helped them for a stretch run almost make the ECF his first year and had two 30 point seasons. That's the back of his card.

His other highlights include being offsides 7x a game and he had the three incidents with Brodeur (the shove, waving the stick, and the non handshake) aka proto Instagram clips.

He was a decent player who people compared to Tikannen. A washed up Tikkanen who helped the Caps go to the SCF in 1998 had more talent than him. He got bored of the redundancy of being an NHL player and just gave up in 2011 rather than go back to the AHL. Maybe when Dubinsky gets injured in the 2012 playoffs an in game shape or motivated Avery helps them get past Ottawa a little quicker or provides more depth vs. the Devils.

The only issue with this is eventually he will want to be a #1. He can be a good backup for them the next couple seasons as he establishes himself.

I wonder if they approach Quick and see if he wants to go somewhere by the deadline as his last run. He's definitely risen from the aging goalie ashes to show he is a quality backup. It'd only be a few months away from the family. Would open a slot sooner than later. Some team will value his experience for their #1 in a playoff run.

If I am building a roster and trying to build a championship-caliber team, the first thing I probably do is spend a few weeks doing an in-depth analysis of the last 5 Cup winning teams.

I’d want to know the common strengths and weaknesses of those teams from personnel structure and style of play standpoints, which should start to paint a decent picture of what my roster needs more or less of.
Yeah, this.

And along the same lines, track what teams do good scouting, assessment, development. Figure out what it is they do right. Hire their people if needed.

if we get a top 4 pick and don’t get one of Schaefer, Martone or Misa…. Schaefer is arguably the best player and our biggest need

I wouldn’t mind Frederic but some team will overpay him. We can’t afford another overpaid bottom 6 player

To me it's a non-issue. Not all backups have to be old geezers. You can have a Giacomin/Villemure or Beezer/Richter or Lundqvist/Talbot thing for a number of years. If he ever gets to be as good as Talbot then you trade him 1-2 years prior to UFA kinda like what we've seen with Jones or Ullmark and get a first or good prospect back.

He's an RFA this year and hasn't played an NHL game yet, so that's two years of cost controlled. If he's good then he gets a three year deal and they can trade him either in summer 2028 or summer 2029.
