You know, the whole time I was reading about the JT Miller/Pettersson spat in Vancouver, I always wondered if it wasn't Pettersson that was causing the problems and not Miller as a lot would speculate. JT sounds like the kind of guy that would get on a guy like Pettersson for floating and essentially what Alvin said to the media. His NMC starts in July. Draft day deal. Cozens and Buffalo 2025 1st for Pettersson. He's going to Buffalo if they want him. They have the beat mix of assets and NHL talent they'd be willing to move to make a deal happen.

I don't see Carolina giving up Necas. He's going to get the bag this summer. The Rangers need to be all over Necas next summer if he won't sign in Carolina long term. Miller straight up? I think the Rangers would have to add. Carolina loves their former NYR defenseman. There's a spot there. Orlov is a UFA this summer.

Speaking of Miller, @bobbop said it best last night. He's the best chance Drury has to fleece another GM. I'm looking to flip him for a center this summer. Necas. MacTavish. Byfield. In that order.

Keep losing and get a top 5 pick. I'm looking at the top end of the draft and it's center and LHD heavy. Good. That's 1A and 1B on the needs list. I'm doing backflips if Schaefer ends up a Ranger. I'd be happy with Hagens but the rumors his parents want him to stay in school make me uneasy. Misa is a surefire top 6 center but I question his upside. McQueen would be on my do not draft list. Two significant injuries in under a year and screams bust on a Nolan Patrick level to me. Frondell I like but I'm iffy on taking the Swedish center playing only on the J20 team. Schaefer, Hagens, or Misa, in that order. I'd even trade down and take the Russian center and recoup a couple of 2nd round picks.

Dallas wants to get over the hump
Mika waives for them most likely
Kreider, Othmann and Miller tag along

We get Harley and W Johnson
And whatever overpaid bottom 6F or bottom pair D they have
We eat 20% of Mika's contract

Harley>>Miller
WJ > Mika but resurgent mika>WJ
Kreids, Othmann >> whatever crap we get back to make the money workout

Carolina needs Necas and they don’t need a D. They have Nikishin and Morrow ready to go. They will replace Burns and Orlov internally

Drury needs to sit down with Mika and ask him what he needs to get going or what the problem is. The guy is too young and talented to fall of a cliff like this. Something is going on.

Whatever place he waives his NMC for (if he even does) is going to result in the Rangers getting fleeced again by selling at the lowest point instead of figuring out how to get the player going.

This organization and its knee jerk reactions for underwhelming returns is really getting old.

Necas is on pace for a 100 point season. Miller doesn't get you anywhere close to him.

Because teams are going to want him, and we (probably) aren’t going to be able to trade Mika
They can want him all they want I don’t see us doing it unless we are tearing everything down

I find it a waste of time to argue about Chris Kreider with those who clearly hate him. Why bother?
I just don’t like agenda driven shit just be objective. Has he had a good year? No abd it’s perfectly fine to say that. But to minimize his contributions as a Ranger by calling him lazy or not good is just petty

With all the NMCs there is a limited pool of players that they can move. Just numbers
But again they’re not going to move players for the hell of it. Trouba and Goodrow were cap dumps. Trochek is on a good contract. Unless we are getting back a proven player in return or we are rebuilding it’s not happening

KAM for MacT is something I would get behind

Fear would be they would then keep Lindgren. In a perfect world we’d land Schaefer in the draft

+Schaefer
+MacTavish

Would be a great start

Part Two....

I don't think a "ripping it to the studs" approach is the way to go. Igor, Fox, Schneider, Lafreniere, and Perreault is a pretty good foundation to build on. Trochek is also going to still be useful when the team is ready to contend again if they're smart with the moves they make. Chytil played like a man possessed last night and did everything but score. Keep him too.

Kreider. Lindgren. Smith. Vesey. Borgen. Quick if he want a shot at another Cup. All gone at the deadline. Kreider brings in a good prospect and a 1st rounder. The rest bring in an extra 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th rounder, respectively. Borgen brings in a 2nd and a late pick too.

I would ask Panarin if he would waive. He would get a haul with retention for two playoff runs with him. The Rangers are not contending for a Cup this year or next. Have a heart to heart with him and tell him this. Try and win a Cup and we can sign you back in 2026 if he wants to come back.

Miller and Zibanejad. Draft day/summer moves. That clears out a shit ton of money. You burn a retention spot on Panarin. That's fine. Weaponize the retention slots and take payment in the form of high draft picks to take on a couple of bad contracts with a year left that expire in 2026. You still need to ice a team and have warm bodies. You can't have Ryder Korzak as your 2nd line RW going into next year.

Make a run at Rantanen this year but I doubt he signs here. Gavrikov I like as a sneaky under the radar signing. Chychrun I think ends up back in Washington but I'd make a run at him too. Jordan Greenway. Luke Kunin. Tanner Jeannot. Guys that make it harder to play against. That's who I'm targeting. A LHD and a winger with piss and vinegar.

2026 is the year to make smart moves in UFA and is around the time the 2025 1st rounder is ready to join the team. The next couple of years see an influx of youth on cost controlled prospects augmented by a key UFA signing or two. McDavid or Eichel in 2026. Kaprizov. Kyle Connor. A center and one of the last two guys.

This team can be transformed in two years if they get some UFA luck and drafts well.

That’s fine but the core is rotten so something’s going to have to give. I wouldn’t like it but Rangers would actually get a lot back for him especially compared to others

Like I said it depends on what their plan is. Are they going to rebuild or just retool?

They do, but I've seen Carolina make some absurdly stupid player personnel decisions. Necas bet on himself and he's going to get paid. Good for him. I'm just not sure Carolina is the team that's going to do it.

You have a point. I forgot about Nikishin completely.

It won’t be a Russian.

Connelly is a bit of a dope but he’s talented.
He's perfectly healthy. The Rangers made a point to call it a a healthy scratch in NJ. he led the forwards in ice time in Nashville. Him making the back injury comments was thinly veiled attempt to scuttle Drury's trade plans. It was a "mask off" moment for Kreider

This is absolutely blowing up in Vancouver right now by the way.
Looks like Pettersson is available
Allvin went on blast basically, Not sure what you guys would offer, or how seriously you would be interested, He would obviously need a Haul.
But, just thought I would share and get your guys opinions!
Not everyday a 90+ Center with great Defensive abilities becomes available.

Thoughts?
I’m all in. Schneider, Miller, 1st rounder next year. Centers like him don’t show up on trade list very often.
