Speculation: Roster Building Thread : Part XV (Light em up!)

Columbus hasn't made the playoffs since 2019. Does Columbus keep Provorov as a self rental? Maybe sign him. Columbus is currently 8th. Dean Evason has them playing good hockey. How important is another draft pick or two to them? They already have so many young players on their team/system. Columbus already has an extra first round pick from Minnesota for Jiricek. The deadline is March 7. If Columbus remains in a playoff spot on March 7, do they sell? Making the playoffs would be a big deal in that market.
Columbus will be adding.

I still can't believe Utah didn't add this year, they have TWENTY TWO guys unsigned not on their 50-man contracts list with a full slate of draft picks coming this year. Absolute criminality to not monetize some of them into actual productive players. Hoarding 19 year olds like Smaug under a mountain.

I feel like this board did a 180 in like a week. A week ago all I read was how bad Borgen has been. Has he really improved that much? Who was he partnered with originally?
He's figuring out the system and how his teammates play. He started with 3rd pairing losers I'm pretty sure, when he arrived KAM was still injured.

I’d trade him for past considerations.
Do you think your position on Lindgren is not known here?

You seriously don't think the Rangers would be able to get at minimum a 3rd from a playoff bound team? What about additional incentive from a team that has his brother in an important role to go to 2nd?

I think he played one game with Vaak and since Miller returned from injury Borgen's been paired with him.

We know Gavrikov isn't moving. Neither is Orlov. Those teams are competing. I doubt Utah moves Maata. Most teams don't have anyone else to trade.

IDC, what anyone has said negatively about Borgen, but I think he's played admirably fitting into this team. He's a lot more physical than I thought (admittedly, I didn't know much about him, but even still) regardless, I don't think this move was primarily about Borgen (or any RHD, for that matter) it's prob more about getting the MOST out of KAM. I believe the brass believes he still can be a stud. He's coming along too slowly for us, but remember isn't 26 yrs. of age about when NHL Dmen start getting it? He's only 24, right? Yeah, so lets lose patience and rid us of this "useless" defenseman, like we did KK. We'll get burned with trading KK, regardless of how well Borgen plays for us.

Bills players & Fans.
the bills fans? happy???? you’re joking right

You’re gonna be looking for a Will Borgen every year for years when you already have one. Trading him for what equates La to a late second is stupid. Sign him Schneider plays well on the left too if we want to experiment with that again.

But guys like Borgen don’t grow on trees
just get an under the table agreement with him to re-sign him before trading him for picks duh

Dude it was a joke it’s not that serious.

Of course they’d get something for him. Worse players have been traded.

The truth is he wasn’t as bad as people
Said he was.

When this team is struggling everyone is the worst player to have ever played according to most of the people who post here.

There is so much wear and tear, given cap reality any return is minimum
depending on what lesser pick WE ADD and if we retain,
we might get a 2nd or 3rd

but without that, your looking in the area of a 6th

If we keep Borgen, why is the Kakko trade so terrible? Is a guy that can play in your second pair really that much less valued than a 3rd liner? People acting like we traded a superstar. And yes I know Kakko is younger. But to me Kakko is a little bit of a better Fast.

Trouba played on our second pair. Lindgren plays on our first pair. It'll really depend how he looks for the rest of the year, but I havent seen much of anything to suggest that he belongs on the 2nd pair of a team that thinks it can contend.

Yes the forever complaint is the Rangers trade assets for rentals while other teams get guys with term.

The Kakko trade is a win currently, will be a win if they trade him at the deadline, and will be a win if they extend him. It's only bad if they let him walk, which they won't.

Been thinking a lot about this mystery "upper body" Chytil stuff and wondering if it's migraines? I mean, it's twice that it looked like nothing really happened and he's out and specifically saying it's not concussion related. Mystery for sure.
If he has migraines and also has had a fistful of concussions, is that not related?

We're talking like, a couple of inches in most cases. This is not a league where you regularly see guys giving up 7, 8 inches in a matchup.

The optimal size to be able to skate isn't that big of a window.

Bowen Byram, who has been described in this thread as "smallish," is two inches shorter than Braden Schneider who is often described as above average in size.

For the record. I read the preceeding chain of comments.

Im definitely not against Byram coming here. Just playing devils advocate with your comment.

The balance we'd have of two excellent PMDs on either side, on seperate lines, would be a tough match-up nightly to defend. And, having him and Fox at both points on the PP would be wild if they decided to make Cyulle a net-front look vs teams that we could exploit in that regard.

Im all about diversity in play style and schemes. Being unpredictable is a huge advantage.

But you cant dismiss the advatage of the Chara's, Hedman's, Pronger's either. Outside of their hits, just the dominance of a guy who is that big but can keep up with average/smaller forwards is an intimidating thing to mentally deal with, especially in a seven game series.

Noone noticed any situational event that would cause Chytil's this latest "injury". The issue could be that at this point just going full effort even without any actual contact results in symptoms onset - whether it's lightheadedness, double-vision, headaches etc. Would explain mysterious quote

Maybe it's something with his neck? Maybe his spine?

I am really just speculating. But those are the types of areas that can't take much impact once injured.

Am I the only one not blown away by Borgen? Am I in the twilight zone where 30 year old trouba is hated but 28 year old trouba but paid less is the defensive centerpiece we needed?

Not a huge fan of Vaak either and definitely don't want to watch Lindgren anymore.

It's the latest cope by this board.

When he is making $5M next season he will go back to being seen for what he is, just like B Smith.

Mollie Walker discussed Filip Chytil's new injury in the Pod last Friday. She mentioned talking to Chytil about his concussion history. He said something about playing home if his NHL career is cut short because of injuries. He has two more seasons remaining on his contract.

I don't think anyone, anywhere (except for Borgen's agent, and even then it's bloody unlikely) is advocating for Borgen at $5m.

A few years at $3.5m-ish sounds pretty good though
