Besides the obvious Leetch, I think Brad Park or Andy Bathgate would be good picks too. I think Messier would have an aneurysm.

Or for a sleeper pick, Frank Boucher.

My father has never gotten over the Brad Park trade.

Gartner's speed and ability to drive the net and find those dirty areas would be welcome on this team, too...

It still rankles my ass that the Rangers made zero effort to re-sign him. None.

Exactly the kind of superstar they always want and a guy who exceeded those expectations and <poof> see ya. Never got it.

The way I recalled it was that NYR's first choice was Hossa, Jagr was the backup plan, and Naslund was plan C. At least there was a narrative to that effect floating around the internet at the time. I read our offer for Jagr was 2x6, which he found insulting especially after being plan B, and went to Russia. We got Naslund and while I really liked that player, his season for us was super forgettable.

He told them he was the best player on the team (he was) so he needed to be paid the most on the team. That I don't think could happen for cap reasons so it was just over.

I just want players that attack. That want the puck and battle for it. Obviously not potatoes like Lindgren or Goodrow but with some meat in the skill department

Tenacious and assertive. That’s all I’m asking for. Guys are going to make mistakes, fine. If they’re doing so while bringing those qualities I think they can be molded in to good players. They have to have skill but it’s a mindset

Miller’s contract towards the end transitions to a NTC in lieu of the NMC, he gets $500k less than Mika and his contract is structured more favorably to a buyout in the final couple of years. This is beyond the fact that he’s a better fit for this team and more effective right now. A trade of Miller for Mika benefits the Rangers quite a bit.

One of my core hockey memories is Jagr on Pittsburgh just refusing to get off the ice for multiple minutes. Announcers said he was only going to change if he scored a goal or took a penalty. It ended up being the penalty. I remember him collapsing in the box with his jersey off and thinking "that is a hockey player." He just completely imposed his will on the game in a way that I don't think any other Rangers forward I've seen has.

As long as we're ripping that bong, we also never trade Zubov and roll into the mid-90's with two top-5 centers and two top-10 defensemen.

Four straight Cups. Detroit and Colorado can get some hands.

Oddly enough this jogged a memory.

A reason Verbeek gave for bailing on NY was the team culture. After he left the 7y drought kicked in and we are still dealing with "culture" issues to this day. (the Torts years were an exception)

Welcome back everyone, nice that HFBoards gave a heads-up about this update...

Anyway, Nick Kypreos has a weekly column at a Toronto newspaper, where he mainly focus on the leafs. At the end of the column, he usually gives a few titbits he's hearing around the league:
There’s been lots of talk about the New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks looking at a deal involving Mika Zibanejad and J.T. Miller. I’m hearing that Zibanejad’s camp has made it clear to the Rangers that he isn’t willing to waive his no-move clause to go to the west coast.
That doesn't really surprise anyone. However, the wording is interesting: "he isn’t willing to waive his no-move clause to go to the west coast."

So maybe him waiving his NMC isn't a total no-no afterall. Though this could simply be the general stance of his, not willing to waive.
