I'm getting the feeling the Rangers will do a July 1st, 2007 reenactment of Chris Drury & Scott Gomez same day signings with Artemi Panarin & Erik Karlsson.
Won’t happen due to cap, but Panarin and karlsson are much Much better players than Gomez and Drury were in their prime. IMO it would be worth it, if the rangers were farther in the rebuild.

An SPC with a term of greater than seven (7) years, provided, however, that a Club may sign a Player to an SPC with a term of up to eight (8) years if that Player was on such Club's Reserve List as of and since the most recent Trade Deadline. With respect to potential Unrestricted Free Agents only, the ability to re-sign a Player to an SPC of eight (8) years expires when the Player becomes an Unrestricted Free Agent. With respect to a Player who becomes a Group 2 Restricted Free Agent, a Club may sign such Player to an SPC with a term of up to eight (8) years provided such Player was on such Club's Reserve List and/or Restricted Free Agent List as of and since the most recent Trade Deadline.

The Flyers can't give Hayes 8 years. He wasn't a Flyer at the most recent trade deadline. He just became a Winnipeg Jet.

There's speculation about Florida and Columbus making a trade for Panarin and Bobrovsky's rights. Columbus signs Panarin to the 8 year deal and trades him to Florida. That's allowed.

Craig Custance top 20 players who could move this summer.

1. Jacob Trouba, Winnipeg Jets – One way or the other, we’re moving closer to some sort of finality on Trouba’s future. He’s one year removed from unrestricted free agency and this marriage can end with a one-year deal in arbitration and Trouba hitting the open market next year. It’s not an ideal solution for the Jets, as the best asset management is a trade involving Trouba this summer. Trouba trade conversations have gone on for a long time but the difference now is that the Jets are more open to varied trade packages than they were in the past when the desire was to get a similar player in return – the kind of trade that is almost impossible to pull off.

That said, teams know how meticulous GM Kevin Cheveldayoff is when it comes to making a deal like this, and it’ll be interesting to see if GMs interested in Trouba move on to another option if these conversations move too slowly.

“Chevy is the guy everyone is looking at right now,” said one executive. “Who he’s moving, who he’s keeping. … Everyone is looking at Chevy and waiting.”

Another major issue is the contract. Is Trouba giving free agency in the summer of 2020 to sign with the team acquiring his rights? Nobody knows the answer to that question except for Trouba and his agent Kurt Overhardt who is major pain in the ass.

Good luck.

8. Chris Kreider, New York Rangers – The Rangers are getting to the point where they want to get out of the rental business at the trade deadline since the rebuild is turning the corner. So there will likely be a decision point for Kreider in the near future since he’s entering the last year of his contract. The Rangers obviously like him, but if a long-term extension doesn’t make sense for their competitive timeline, then a summer trade becomes a realistic scenario.

See ya later Chris.

14. Vladislav Namestnikov, New York Rangers – The Rangers have a trio of young forwards in Jimmy Vesey, Pavel Buchnevich and Namestnikov who will eventually need new deals. Vesey, famously signed as a college free agent, and Namestnikov are unrestricted free agents after this season. So they fall under the same category as Kreider. Buchnevich is a restricted free agent who is most likely headed for a bridge deal with New York after winning over coach David Quinn with a strong finish. Namestnikov drew interest at the trade deadline, most notably from the San Jose Sharks before they made the deal for Gustav Nyquist, so it wouldn’t be shocking if they circled back on this front.

The Sharks have interest in Vlad. Interesting. Friedman said the Sharks have a lot of balls in the air and trying to re-sign Karlsson. The Jets tried to acquire Nyquist but he had a NTC and said no to Winnipeg. I wonder what would have to Hayes to the Jets if they acquired Nyquist who was traded on Sunday night before the Monday deadline. OTOH,Winnipeg tried to acquire Simmonds from the Flyers after getting Hayes.

Bridge deal for Pavel sounds right. Need to see more for him but committing big money to him.

Forget about Vesey. Trade him too.

I support these moves. I 100% agree Buch should be bridged. Need to see if he can build, or maintain that surge he had late in the year. He just turned 24 a few months ago and needs to be showing more consistency.

I would not be surprised if around the league Namestnikov's value is lower than Vesey's. Vesey scored high teens goals two years in a row on rebuilding team. There would be teams willing to bet on him being a top6 winger in the different environment. Gorton should capitalize.

Namestnikov is a type of player that should get more in return at TDL and the Rangers need a utility player like him for next season capable of stepping in a top-6 role if necessary.

Fast is not on the list?

Fast is well liked by the Rangers management. I would agree though on Names as a TDL deal and trade Vessey at the draft or this summer

Fast is well liked but is going to sign another team friendly deal? Because if not and if Names' next contract should be lower enough where the difference to Fast's is not big, between the two I'd rather keep Names.

Cant really see them moving anyone but Kreider now. They won't assume kids are ready till camp

right now
Kreider, Zib, Kakko (assuming its not Hughes)
Kravtsov, Chytil, Buch
Vesey, Howden, Strome
Names, Andersson, Fast
Nieves, Lemiuex

someone goes yes but maybe later

I’m starting to wonder if there is a realistic timeline where the Winnipeg ask for Trouba stays just too large for other teams to want to pay - because Winnipeg is asking for prices of a player with term (young Dman RFA); whereas everyone else just wants to pay for the 1 year deal. All of the sudden the season has started and Trouba is still there due to organization stubbornness and when the deadline rolls around Winnipeg sees more value in keeping him for the run rather than trading him as a rental. Now you have Trouba in the off-season likely just having his rights traded to a team.

Is Carolina still playing with the idea of moving one of their Dmen? That sure looked like a team that could use a hard nosed experienced player in the playoffs. Kreider?

The in-division thing could be funky

Re-Sign Kreider. I am all for him being part of the future solution.

Cant move everyone.

Move out Namestnikov and Vesey. That’s much of Kreider’s money right there.

My concern with Kreider is mostly about how much his game is predicated on his speed. He's 29 at the start of his next contract. In the next few years, he's likely to lose a step... and what happens to his game then?

It's a pretty major gamble that I'm not all that comfortable with.

Also I was listening to the 31 Thoughts Podcast and they re-iterated that any team could give Karlsson 8 years if they traded for his rights

Don't think this is correct.

Sharks could resign him ON OR BEFORE June 30th to 8 years, then trade him, but they cannot trade his rights so that another team can give him the 8th year

I am banking on his speed holding up into his 30’s much like it had for Erik Cole and Marleau among some others.

If we ultimately re-signed Kreider to a 4 or 5 year deal for 6-6.5 per year, I’d end up just saying okay, fine.

Erik Cole is exactly what I'm afraid of, because he was still fast into his 30s, but he also lost a step and went from a 25-35 guy to a 15-20 guy. He was still speedy, but no longer overwhelmingly so like earlier in his career.

Comes down to what WPG values Trouba for one more year...

Trouba for 1 year + Rights traded for a 5th vs Trouba traded to a team and extended for whatever assets they can get...

I dont see it being anywhere near what Chevy is asking for. This is NOT Erik Karlsson, it is Jacob Trouba

Saw this on twitter (can't post link right now) from Joshua Clipperton, interview with McDavid:
"On how patient [McDavid] is willing to be with the Oilers rebuild: 'Not a question I'm going to answer.'"

TARGET #8 OVERALL
So it already sounds like he is more than impatient in Edmonton already. Let’s see if that changes even a year from now (it’s not).
