Peter Luger's is great but not my fave. Between NY and DC (and a coupe trips to the SF Bay Area) I have been to so many really, really good places. Luger's might be the most pretentious, though. LOL.Looks pretty good for a 0 star establishment. lol

This. Exactly.I’ve eaten at PL’s over a dozen times. I don’t think the quality has really dropped that much from the mid 90’s when I first ate there.
The quality and creativeness of other restaurants has grown tremendously over the years while PL’s has just, kinda stayed the same.
It’s still a damn good steak but it’s not new or exciting anymore. It’s also overpriced af.
Fully agreed. I still love their burgers though. The last time I was there was several years ago at the Great Neck location (I'm from Bayville, was at a wedding on the North Shore). My wife is from the Twin Tiers near Binghamton and had never had a "really nice" steak before. So I took her. Steak for two was like $130 or something. Stupid.I’ve eaten at PL’s over a dozen times. Unrelated to anything, but Eddie O thinks that Steve Larmer should be a Hall of Famer
My father, before he passed, was from Brooklyn. The way he talked about the City, it was like he was talking about an amalgamation of the City from what it was in the 20s, the 50s, the early 70s, etc. And it was funny because he moved away after Vietnam to Long Island with his family and then in the mid-70s to LA where he met my Mom. But anyway, the reverence, the mysticism, the "everything is better", "everyone moves faster", "people aren't stupid", all that stuff was present in him until the day he died.Peter Luger's is part of the outdated New York model I always reference. Good once in a blue moon but regularly...why?
In fairness MSG still is a fun place to see a game and the experience is still pretty good and special. I've been to a few playoff games over the last decade and it does get rowdy.
Comparing it to the 70-90s isn't fair it's a different generation of fans. Different economics.
Manhattan isn't what it was in terms of culture. There's no more CBGBs, record shops, small clubs. Lincoln Center is still there but it's not the same.
MSG has made some pretty good improvements since the renovation but it's putting a fresh coat of paint on an old building. It's the oldest arena in the league and there's not much to do during a game for families.
I know I'm always hard on NY here despite bleeding Ranger Blue but I'm also older and more jaded. NY is an old city with old stubborn ways. Places like Nashville, Dallas, Tampa show that you can still work hard without having to go through a very ugly commute and have a better work life balance. I think a lot of those older Rangers fans are the ones who have been leaving the region the last 10-15 years.
Any chance one gets regular vaccinations and the other doesn’t?who knows? My sister had Covid while her husband is an obese diabetic and got nothing. I don’t get it. This virus is very selective.
Sparks has been my favorite NYC steakhouse for years. Lugers is good but it is what it is nothing fancy and pricey.Fully agreed. I still love their burgers though. Honestly, unless you're trying to impress someone, I think for the price you're much better off just going to an upscale chain place like Ruth's Chris. The quality really isn't much different and you save money. The super-high-end joints aren't worth it. There's actually a place in Leesburg, VA we go to every year for our anniversary that has the best filet I've had. And even with a nice bottle of wine it's still like $250 for the two of us.
Anyway. Hockey. LOL.
Much prefer Keens myself. I went to Lugers for the first time this year. Thought it was good/fine but not all it was cracked up to be (especially for the price/mostly the reputation).Sparks has been my favorite NYC steakhouse for years. Lugers is good but it is what it is nothing fancy and pricey.
Keens is awesome. It’s a must dinner anytime my family is in the city.Much prefer Keens myself. I went to Lugers for the first time this year. Thought it was good/fine but not all it was cracked up to be (especially for the price/mostly the reputation).
