Speculation: Roster Building thread: Part XIX (Thanks, Sam)

Maybe I'm way off, but I feel like Drury is hell bent on making the playoffs. Maybe he's worried about his job if they miss the postseason. I don't know. If he thinks GP can help give them a jolt up front, I don't see why he wouldn't sign him and play him. I get it, burning a year of the ELC doesn't seem smart. I wouldn't do it. But my gut says Drury thinks otherwise.
lol Drury doesn’t much say in the matter. Any big college prospect is burning their 1st year, whether Drury wants to or not is irrelevant

What's the rule on ELCs? Does Perreault burn a year if he plays a single game?
Yes. It's not really a big deal. Perreault is 20 when signs the ELC. He is 19 right now. However, Gabe will be 20 by September 15 this year. 18-20 year olds need 4 seasons to become salary arb eligible. He still needs 4 seasons to become arbitration eligible. Even if Perreault becomes a group II free agent in 2027 instead of 2028, he still needs another season and if he doesn't have strong numbers for salary arbitration it doesn’t really matter. Group III for unrestricted free agency is 7 years accrued or 27 years old. An accrued season is 40 games on the active roster. He doesn't credit for an accrued season this season.

Yes, he’d be signing his ELC to start this year in that case, which would burn the first year. The way around it is to sign an ATO with Hartford and have his ELC start next year like they’re doing with Noah Laba right now.

There’s no point waiting for Perreault. It’s ok to burn the year
Thanks for clarifying! I was seeing conflicting info out there.

They aren't seriously gonna bring up to play with the big club are they?
For what to give him 7 min a game and zero pp time?
As fans it won't be fun to watch, but Gabe getting some exposure even with 7 mins and knowing where the offseason focus should be is probably worth more than just waiting.

Sometimes the player and the agent play a big factor in forcing that hand as well. How much do you want to upset the player and agent over this?

Fine as long as he spends every shift attached to Panarin or Miller and sees PP2 minutes.

I hope they treat him better than they have Othmann, considering he has the significantly higher upside.

Burning a year but not getting a max contract. He's not even getting max salary, if those numbers are correct. For cap purposes, it's better if he doesn't have the big performance bonuses, especially if he does well.
