Yeah I'm impressed with the comments from him today. I find the contrast between how tight-lipped this regime has been to this point, with all of the sudden everybody and their mother having some major scoop about the team's culture coming right from the players' and staffs' mouths really obviously just the product of a major market team spiraling to the degree they have.
Look at this season realistically. Yes they were winnning to start, but anybody with eyes knew it wasn't sustainable. The whole conversation around the Rangers was how
we have to pay this goalie whatever he wants because he's our entire team. That was
while we were winning.
Did we start losing
because Drury's 'memo' got leaked? Or were we already floating on the precipice--which is, after all, why the memo was sent in the first place.
Drury has spent three years catching shit for
not making big changes to the structure of this team. He suddenly pivots, he astutely and impressively cleaves off two AHL level players making huge paychecks... I mean, if the Trouba thing was so sickening to everyone, why on earth would Igor resign at a number he'd previously, reportedly rejected? Same goes for Lafreniere who signs a big deal under market value
despite "Playoff Warrior" Goodrow being treated so meanly.
I don't really care to comment on the culture of the team. I have no insight into it, I have no insight into who these people are, and I have little evidence to suggest most people commenting on all of this do either.
Trochek is very right: you want the band to stay together? play good hockey and win games. That simple. And frankly, this team hasn't done both of these things at once since the first week of October.
