He's the one who thought Z was the #1, he could've flipped him, and if he really believe in Z maybe not handcuff himself to a full NMC throughout the contract or make the contract pretty much buyout proof. He was the one who constantly has to fix his own mistakes. He over paid for Reeves, then traded him for pennies. He was forced to give up 2nd round picks to get rid of Nemeth, which could've been used to bolster the lineup other places. Constantly gave up picks to fill the hole he created by getting nothing for Buch. He made the room sad but getting out of the Goodrow contract he handed out. Also, he paid Arizona a lot more than other teams have in the past to retain salary on the Kane deal. Not to say everything Drury has done has been bad, after the Buch deal he made some nice savvy cheap trades that worked out well, but if he didn't have to correct his mistakes the team would've been in a better position to either have prospect reinforcements coming, or use those picks to upgrade the roster.
Don't disagree with any of this.

It’s a valid argument, but no GM bats 1.000

arguing that a gm should be flawless with understanding of how a player will age (some of these drop offs are insane) is asking more for a fortune teller than a general manager.

Stamkos has been garbage.
In what world is he even a minor upgrade.
Also he hasn’t been a functioning center in years.

Vibes. He's a winner and he's always been rumored here. Would be fun to see him play with our big wings. He's like Mika if he gave a f*** and could hit the net.

Stamkos hasn't played center since President Jefferson signed the Louisiana Purchase.

Nobody can defend anyway, might as well try to outscore everyone again.

But why not include a fail-safe in the contract? How do you turn around and offer another player a similar contract?

I don't think anyone complained about the cap hit. It's what if the contract starts aging like milk out in the New Mexico dessert.

Now it's aging like a dead goat in Death Valley.

I feel like you're putting square pegs into round holes to satisfy a Stamkos boner.

That time has come and gone.

Along with better defenseman the team needs a veteran leader in the top 6. There is a reason Drury is poking around JT Miller and Brady Tkachuk. Id love to buy low on Dylan Cozens if Buffalo wants out of that contract. Stamkos just seems like the most attainable right now.

I still think laf and Cuylle should get reps at center regardless

I beg to differ... Considering what playing centre requires..

I'd be happy with the axis of a Peak Ziba as 1C, Healthy Chyt at 2C and a Sam Bennet at 3C.

Now tho I dunno.

I like Sam Bennett. And I really like top line minutes for Chytil. He's earned it. More PP time is more time he can handle the puck in open ice without fear of being hit. Play to the strengths of your players.

That's all fine and dandy, I just need you to put him at the position he actually plays.

I can't imagine why you'd want Cuylle or Laf playing a completely new position when they've been doing just fine at the positions they're in.

In what world is stamkos a buy low candidate.
There’s zero indication that he’s capable of bouncing back.

And you’re comparing him to 23 year old Dylan cozens.
I agree with a buy low on cozens. But stamkos would be “rangers spend on old vet who can’t play anymore for role that requires youth”
