Didn't the Rangers select Lundkvist with that TB 1st? That would seem to be something worth weighing into the deal?

I usually judge trades on the day and don't take into account who we pick with draft picks acquired in the deal. If we do, we could say the Nash trade was the best in the last 15 years since we got Buchnevich with the 3rd rounder acquired in the trade

Kreider - Zibanejad - Buchnevich
Panarin - Andersson - Kakko
Lemieux - Strome - Fast
Smith - Howden - McKegg

Honestly, dreaming up lines with this roster is like making a meal out of spaghetti, watermelon and mustard.

You could use the watermelon and mustard for a vinaigrette dressing but u would need some type of lettuce and of course, vinegar

Mhmmmm.

Whole forward group confirmed, D stays the same as Sunday.

I like the idea of Fast with those guys but he is another right handed guy on that line, that's tough to get Panarin the puck that way. I would have rathered they left Strome and Fast together as they looked like they had something going. The good thing is that it spreads the scoring around but I've pretty much saw enough of that second line to know those players dont necessarily compliment each other. I still believe Kakko needs a fore checker to get things going for him.

I'd have rathered
Panarin Zibanajad Kreider
Fast Strome Kakko
Lemieux Howden Buch
Smith Andersson Mckegg

I think Andersson would be better with Buch and Lemieux (remember how well the Lemieux-andersson-Names line played -- and was promptly broken up....).

That was the best line on the team in the final weeks of the season. With Buchnevich on the 3rd line now, it makes sense to try it again.

As much as i consider myself an OG Buch stan, I honestly think that he is simply not skilled enough. When his ice is cut he plays a slightly more aggressive style that leads to more opportunities for him. Playing with Zib and Panarin I dont think he can keep up. Kakko should be on the 1st line, and Buch should be with Lias on the 2nd line. That will never happen though because apparently Lias will be a career 4th liner here.

I don't get any of it. However, I still trust Quinn so hopefully after the next wave of clearly looming moves that will happen to this club, I think we see Lias get the bump up. I still am thirsting for that Lias - Chytil - Kakko line, Lias and Chytil sharing draws. I still believe that that line can become something monstrous.

This 'growing pains' life we're living blows, but hopefully this year is a huge investment in what will clearly be a bright future.

This is a development year so I really want to see Kravstov-Chytil-Kakko,
Although I disagree on throwing 3 rookies on a line together, I do 100% agree that this is a development year. I want to see our forward prospects beginning to get some important minutes and for Lias Andersson, that means at minimum being on the 3rd line. He has shown to be more capable than Howden, especially defensively.

I think Chytil will definitely see some NHL time this year. He already has 8 points in 6 games.

Kravtsov... he is still adjusting. He needs time.

I dont think i'd like to see all 3 on the same line, and it has nothing to do with them all being rookies. I dont really think they play the same type of game and im not sure it would be a good match.

It doesn’t matter. Problem is that Gorton basically gave JT Miller away for nothing no matter how you twist and turn it.

Our pro-scouting is just very rotten. I am just a fan, but I called exactly what Names what at the day the trade was made. On every move we can side up on either side, but this is not about that, if you understand the game well enough you can call out Namestnikov for what he is and always will be, a guy that plays with his head under his arm. The game is too fast for him to process it.

They need to shape up. Remove the old guard assembled by Sather. Try to find more guys that are in touch with what the game is about today.
Amen

i will reiterate what I've said many times before, assembling a team requires each member of that team to play in the proper spot within the lineup.

when a player is in that proper spot, that players strengths are maximized and his chance of success increases. and conversely, the opposite is true as well.

you put Buchnevich on line 1 or brendan smith on pair 1 and they will fail and the team will fail. however, when they are slated properly each looks better and contributes more. the problem is resist the temptation to take that success and give them more minutes or greater responsibility. more is not always better.

its up to quinn to make sure these guys are where they should be and for the most part- not always, i think he understands that and is trying to make that happen. some of it is luck and some is understanding where these guys need to be.

its a process.

I just do not understand the Howden love. Does anyone else think this guy is gonna be a Brian Boyle type? 3rd/4th line Center with some PK work for the rest of his career? I mean obviously I hope he's better than that but man, he doesn't look like he wants the puck at all. Has zero creativity, falls down all the time (maybe nerves), sure maybe he plays a responsible game but as torts would say "safe is death."

I know he's young but out of Chytil, Howden, Nieves or Lias. I pick Howden dead last and I think he needs some AHL time.

Might be in the minority here but get Chytil out of that men's league. He's making it look easy. Zib can help him in the NHL. He will learn a lot more in the NHL than in the AHL and it kinda seems we could use someone at that 2C spot to create something. Howden, Lias (I know) and Strome don't look to be it.

Panarin - Zib - Kakko
Kreider - Chytil - Buch
Lemieux - Anderson - Strome
Smith - Howden - Fast

f*** fast on the 1st line. This better not be a thing again.

Brett Howden is 21 years old. I'll reiterate, if he was in the AHL (where he should be) and putting up .6-.8 ppg or better, would people be less concerned? The bashing of him has gotten to cult level status here

Howden's problem isn't his offense. It's that his defensive game is a disaster for someone who is supposed to be a two way player and kill penalties.
