gotta be the 1st...obviously he still has potential and you could get lucky but he's looked like a bust and i'm not taking just a 2nd so kakko has a buddy.

He is gonna be a good player. Kakkos start is similar to Puuijarvi...but edmonton just piled on the kid and never let him work it out. Getting a roster player and a pick would be great imo

Just based on how well Hajek and Lindgren are playing I'd probably say 'no' to that. Although I do think he would be valuable in a bottom-pairing role, it's just too crowded at the moment.

I'd really like a young guy like Kaut

Agreed.
Apart from Kaut and Newhook (which isn't happening) the Avs don't have much to offer aside from picks for Krieder.

Perhaps more importantly, thats not something you, or I, or anyone else should have a say in.

This is a guy who gave it everything he had for 13 years despite breaking down quite severely with injuries over the last half of his career. The lack of respect is despicable.
just classless. no rispeck at all

While I do agree that a few people in particular have been flat out disrespectful, I don't know that it is necessarily wrong to hope for that outcome. Retiring sooner than later would allow Staal to retain some dignity in my opinion. It isn't like he would be the first guy ever to get a few games into the season and realize "I really don't have it anymore" and proceed to retire.

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Marc Staal. Given everything he has gone through in his career and still managed to keep coming back, it is beyond impressive. But at this point in his career, not only is he not making a positive impact on the ice, he is making a massively negative impact on the ice.

with all this talk of muh respect this board sometimes feels like catholic school

Marc Staal has been god awful for 5 years + now and makes millions of dollars to do a job he's horrible at. How anyone cares what a message board has to say about him and his absurdly generous circumstances is beyond me.

Is this big Gauthier guy in Carolina any good? Heard a scout mention yesterday that there might be interest in him from the NYR side. Not sure who would be going to Carolina, but the list is not that long...

He's good and would love get Carolina involved in a trade.
Kreider and TDA to Carolina for Gauthier, Kuokkaken and Toronto's 1st

I doubt they move him for a rental although you never know. I like Kaut too but another nasty Defenseman would not be so bad. I wonder if they have interest in Jesper Fast UFA also could provide grit for playoff teams good along the boards and a solid player although id keep him if no more than 2.5 and 3 years. if he wants term then same salary. if he wants to get paid. i would consider moving him this deadline

I'd be upset too if I totally escaped any accountability for 5+ years for being a dumpster fire on skates and finally got dinged for it when it was apparent I could not be any worse as an NHL defenseman.

I also must clarify that this really has nothing to do with Marc himself and entirely the organization that enabled the circumstances that came to this.

I think it comes down to basic human decency.

An athlete is getting ripped for being bad at the thing he does for a team we support. An occurrence that occurs at least several thousand times a day across all professional sports. How is this any different?

Eli Manning faces twice the vitriol from NY sports fans and is more accomplished than most players in Rangers history. Giancarlo Stanton is more individually decorated than any player that currently plays for the Rangers and was booed off the field after a game of 5 strikeouts. Not news.

Maybe a little a fire in his ass will make Staal a somewhat competent third pairing defenseman.

the game would need to slow down for him for that to happen. not the way these athletes skate with mobility. the game has went to fast for him. his injuries did not help him at all.

Did either of those guys almost completely lose sight in one eye? Will either of them likely face a life long battle with problems stemming from concussions and likely a continuing degrading of his eye sight?

Staal faces a level of criticism unlike anything I have ever seen on these boards. It routinely goes well beyond "Staal sucks". Except a lot of those posts you don't get to see because we have to delete them.

A reporter putting "upset" in quotes can mean an entire spectrum of things, from something as innocent as Staal saying "Yeah, it was upsetting, clearly I haven't been playing well and need to improve my game... the guys played well and so I don't expect to be put back in right away" all the way to Staal throwing benches around the locker room and taking a dump in Lindgren's locker.

We have no reason to assume its closer to the latter.

What does this have to do with anything? Is he somehow less bad because he sustained extremely unfortunate injuries? Does he deserve less criticism for his severe deficiencies? I sympathize with the fact that he's dealing with life altering injuries but it doesn't change how his effectiveness should be viewed.

I mean, attacking Staal's character and humanity is one thing and I probably don't get to see them; but things that are directly related to his on ice play are fair game. He's an athlete, it's part of that life.

I'm "upset" with Staal's play the last 5 seasons. f*** you waste of cap space

His past sacrifices cannot be used as a defense against criticism of his current play.

And his current level of play is absolutely worthy of the level of vitriol he currently gets.
