Pagnotta: "Everyone knows Trouba is available, everyone knows Kakko is available, everyone knows Kreider is available, and so on. So yes, Drury is still continuing having trade conversations with other clubs. I do think and have gotten the sense over the last few days that Kakko's name is a little bit more prominent right now as they try to bring in somebody that can slot into their top 6 and maybe Kakko is the main piece that gets moved out."

Says he doesn't think Laviolette's job is in danger.

Im a Kakko guy and didnt want him moved, but if he was the piece stopping the Guentzal deal from happening Chris shouldve pulled the trigger because they wound up sitting him in the playoffs again anyway.

Last season was the time to push the chips into the middle of the table and instead Drury went bargain shopping for Jack Roslovic. Probably because he messed with the chemistry too much the year prior moving mountains to bring in Kane.

Throw in the horrendous Buch deal. Some bad signings (Nemeth, Goodrow).

Its obvious Drury hasnt had the correct foresight for this club, especially when it really matters. Its been more bad than good and if you ask me he should be the one out the door before major moves and extensions are made and the coach is replaced.

Its a very critical time right now

Yup, last season was the time to go all in. The playoffs are tough and you need to give your team the best chance to succeed and Jack Roslovic is not THAT guy. This team needs a Tkachuk or Sam Bennett type of player in their Top 6. They need a player who is tough and who has skill.

I don’t think Kakko was the holdup in a Guentzel deal; I think Pittsburgh probably wanted Perrault and the Rangers dangled Othmann instead. I don’t think the Penguins were interested in Kakko.
NO
peeps gotta learn that win now = epic fail does not work

At 26 years old, Adam Fox is by far one of the youngest D on this list and seeing a regular shift in the league, let alone on a top pair, and he’s only getting slower and less physical. Trouba on here as well, with Kakko on the forwards list in all 3 categories.

So he’s going to continue to lose speed and agility as he ages and he is already listed amongst McNabb, Martinez, Suter, Schenn, Cole, Savard, Hamonic, Brodie, etc. who are regarded as good largely because of what they accomplished earlier in their careers, before slowing down. He also is one of the smallest guys to be that slow, especially at a young age. Most of the guys I just mentioned are pretty large and play a physical game. Fox is a great player, but - if I were a betting man - we’ve already seen his peak. Is it a problem? No. Is it great that we’ve probably already wasted the peak of both Fox (turning 27) and Shesty (turning 29) and are now looking to rebuild/retool with them as potential centerpieces? Probably not.
agree w/da bold
need to be ahead of Fox before he gets clauses that kick in
He is likely only way we move zib to VAN

The more I think about it, I think the way to make a meaningful trade would rely on our willingness to trade Schneider. I read a couple of days ago that we would have had JT Miller last year if we were willing to include Schneider.

I could see Dallas taking Kreider and Schneider for Bourque, Bischel, Dadonov and a draft pick.

Laf, Schneider, and Berard to the Senators for Brady and Kelvin.

Vancouver and others would also be enticed by a good physical RD. Granted it would create another hole for us, but it could lead to another trade or two where we could fill two or three holes.
No, this would be a huge mistake
unless return is crazy good, Schneid is off

If Van wants Scheid for price of Zib out + JTM to ny, answer is no
make them take retained zib, only costs us $$$

I read someone said Z was offered for Miller? So some smoke there? I mean, same age, both seem uncomfortable in their current situations, same contract.
Van laughs at that 1:1.

a) Fox + Zib max retained
for
JT + useful pieces + picks

we keep Schneider
that's the ticket

hard No on JT Miller. he's turned into a fantastic player but he does nothing to actually help this team. he's a locker room cancer and he's had a problem with every coach he's ever played for. on top of all that, this team cant be trading picks and prospects for more 30+ year old players right now. maybe only if Vancouver would actually agree to do a 1-for-1 swap with Zibanejad but I highly doubt it.
zib is bigger prob right now
if jt wants out, we can accommodate + flip to any of 3 preferred relocations and get value back

zib is presently negative value bupkis
jt is issues pivot scoring like pt a game
= not the same thig

Kakko and Schneider for JT Miller?

That would be a terrible trade.
If KK was to go it needs to be for a young, good d-man, or as part of a package for a center who is younger and has less question marks than Miller (who I am a fan of)
NO trading KK [barring crazy good offer]

Could Byram be had in Buffalo?

Buffalo has Dahlin, Samuelsson and Power locked up on the left side for years to come and he is going to command 6-7m + on his next deal. They need a shake up and to bring in another young forward. If Kakko's name is being floated out there, that's a piece I'd like to move him for (with an add obviously).
do not want Byram
concussion history

Power is an acceptable risk
and Dahlin is the big get there
but I don't believe we are a match currency wise

I'm not going to excuse anything I've seen over the last month or so, that's for sure.

However, we are completely spoiled in not having gone through a slump like this in how long? 5 or 6 years? When was the last time we had a stretch like this? Some fanbases endure this for entire seasons for YEARS.

Major changes are going to be difficult. We're either going to have to hope for an implosion and a complete blow up or adversity galvanizing the room and getting a chip on their shoulder to go kick some ass.

I've said all along that it's my belief that Drury would begin dismantling this group at the first opportunity he got. Goodrow was the first move....but I honestly wasn't expecting wholesale changes until the offseason. However, their putrid play pretty much pushed the envelope. I still think Drury will try and maximize each deal rather than settling for pennies on the dollar.
The one area Drury has unfettered ability to choose what he wants he's almost entirely drafted gritty hard workers. Huge fan of the style.

It stands to reason he's going to continue that on the big club if they let him. I think all of his moves have made sense at the time even if they didn't pan out, except Kane. I even understand Nemeth if you're in the Nils L. business which he thankfully got out of ASAP.

No. Besides JT Miller apparently wanting out of Vancouver and Colin saying Mika was dangled for him. Not so sure about that one.

Interesting, thought something was up with JT Miller and Vancouver when the "rumor" of him and Pettersson not getting a long.

Contract wise, a Miller for Zib trade makes sense since they are the same age, have the same term and almost the same cap hit $500k difference. That's about where it making sense for Vancouver ends though.

They need to stop beating around the bush and call them out for what they are: they’re soft. Not everyone on the roster is, but a good chunk of them are and they’re in key positions on the team.

Layer this in with the lack of cohesion from top-to-bottom, and you’re stuck with a team that’s extremely predictable and putting forth a horrible on-ice product. In the defensive zone, they’re chasing everything because they’re coached terribly and can be pulled out of position by basic switches. After they’re done chasing, they’re so gassed that they just rim it up and out and hope to win a NZ battle to chip it in and go for a change. They’re not winning those battles either once they get to the puck in the offensive zone.

I’d comment on their neutral zone play, but they give it about as much thought as I’ve given this sentence.

They’re just a terrible mix of apathy, mistimed aging curves, and poor coaching. Other teams can make tough moves and get praised as being smart and calculating. Drury uses a mechanism available to every GM in the league, and someone tosses a bone to Friedman and co and they turn it into their version of Jeff Marek talking every day about the Canucks two years ago. Drury still has a ton of work to do to fix this organization, and he better hurry because his ass will be on the line too. They’re going out sad just like they did at the end of his captaincy.

I know my opinion is not the accepted one: I totally reject the "entitled," "lack of effort" reasons for what is going on.

I see a team in physical decline due to age, injury, or style of play: Kreider, Zib, Trouba, Panarin, Lindgren, Fox.

I see a team whose young players are not progressing as we had hoped: Laf, KK, Chytil (due to injuries), Miller, Schneider. There are some good players here but nobody is outstanding.
As we age we often don't have the same motor as we had in our early 20s. The lack of effort could often be tied to your age declines. Your opinion is just as valid as anyone else's opinion here. I don't see any problem with what you said.

Kakko being the sacrifice would be so hilariously predictable.

Gotta keep running Lindgren out there though!
It’s other GMs asking for him. Same thing with Byram being “available” from Buffalo. He’s cheap and doing well compared to the expensive guys that suck right now. Hard to understand why other GMs would prefer the former

Why are we trading Kakko? He isnt a problem, he has been playing well.

Unless u can get a young top 4 d for him, which doesnt seem to be what they are targeting.

We dont need forwards. We need help on defense. And for our forwards to actually play defense.

I think that's why; he has actual value and could return something like a d-man we need. I don't know who Drury is targeting specifically but you have to assume C and D are the priorities.
He has been playing well, but organizationally we are deepest at wing, and if you have to 'give to get' then it makes sense that we are looking to move a winger (or 2, or 3) to fix holes elsewhere.

And while he's a nice player, he's certainly not a in the 'irreplaceable' category, especially as we don't know what kind of contract he's looking for. Could you move him out as part of a trade that brings back a top-4 d which also allows to either move Miller as well for more changes, or at least get rid of Lindgren, and replace 70-80% of what he brings to the current team with what we have in the wings (pun intended) at 30% of his current cap-hit?

1. I don’t blame Kakko for wanting a fresh start

2. Trading Kakko in a vaccum is fine if it gets a legit upgrade at C or on D

3. I understand the vets range from very tough to impossible to move in season

4. Trading Kakko first in a shake up move to prop up the intact vet core is the worst possible message to send and depending on what comes back 100% ripped from the dark ages playbook
