Drury can blame himself for giving out NMCs like candy, extending vets far too long or not long enough, and not being willing to walk away when he didn’t get terms that were good for the team because he was under the delusion that we couldn’t live without certain players.

After he traded the first guy who wouldn’t be reasonable with their contract demands the rest would fall in line.
Or no one re-signs. That’s a very double edged sword.

Top Shelf hockey was just implying that Kreiders interview was very odd. He thinks that it seemed like Kreider was going out of his way to tell other teams that he was damaged goods.

Interesting.

I don't know who the f top shelf hockey is but I can tell you that what ever Kreider says has little impact one way or the other.

Teams are going to review his medicals and not just take his word for it. Plus that entire methodology would go out the window the second he returns to playing.

It’s almost Messier time me thinks. Not saying I love it but if the players aren’t responding to Drury, Dolan is going to bring in someone who isn’t taking no for an answer.

you think if these guys already dont respect a seasoned veteran coach with a million wins, they're going to listen to someone that has never coached a game in his life just because he won a Cup 30 years ago as a player? asinine.

(not saying i think that is the problem. the problem is that the roster isnt good enough.)

Makes you wonder if Zibanejad has something spinal or otherwise serious going on (likely). In which case we are sort of just f***ed until he decides to retire (unlikely) or his contract is up (2030)
Was at the game tonight. Kept an eye on Mika and two things were painfully obvious for the vast majority of the game

- He is terrified of getting hit
- He isn’t moving his feet while he is skating.

Maybe you can get him to waive for a no state income tax team (since it’ll basically give him a raise) but to can’t imagine the analytics are any better than the eye test here either. They are not far from going to have to waste a buy out here.

This is not the same player that signed that contract. Like we can act like the deal was a mistake in hindsight, but this is not the same guy

From what I can see, he only gave such clauses to: Zib, , Laffy, Goodrow, Trocheck and Fox. Who am I missing?

Not Fox.

Lafreniere I think has 8-10 team NTC when new contract kicks in

Trocheck goes from NMC to partial NTC next season

The only solution is to get him totally off the roster...unless we get some kind of compliance with the CBA renewal, buyout is just not an option....you're saddled with that salary for 10 years instead of 5.

The only good thing to take from these bad stretch of games is the young kids are thriving, at least they are scoring and playing well. They are not the issue here.

The team can be improved, but it'll be tough. The biggest problem (Zibanejad) both can't be moved AND can't be replaced. We only have three top 9 centers and there are none in the entire system. On top of that, Chytil's health issues mean that we can't really rely on him, which leaves us with Trocheck, who should be a middle sixer.

Coaches have tried to get Zib right by just letting him play through it. That clearly doesn't work. The issue with Zib is likely one of two things-- either he doesn't give a shit or he's just buried in his own head with confidence issues. If it's the former, then we might as well burn it to the ground and re-build now, because you can't fix apathy. If the latter? Rather than letting Zib play through it, adding pressure every time he doesn't get it done, they should slash his responsibility for a stretch. Pull him from PP1 in favor of Laf. Have him focus on a shutdown role with PK time. Get him right with that and THEN start to increase his responsibility.

As for the defense, Trouba needs to be moved. He's a distraction and he's easily replaceable. He's already behind Fox and Schneider. Mancini can step into the 3RD role easily. If we retain, I honestly think we'd get something of value in return. I'd move Lindgren as well. He's a shadow of his former self, and he should be moved for something before walking.

Just like the forwards, though, the pieces that are easy to move don't solve the real problem. Jones is fine as a 3LD, but Miller is the only top 4 LD on the roster or in the system. I'd love to move him (he's not playing great and he'd bring back a haul), but who replaces him? That's an offseason move if he doesn't pull it together.

The team needs a big, defense-first, hard hitting LD to pair with Fox. Then pair up Jones/Schneider and Miller/Mancini.

As for Shesterkin...I'd give him a final offer. It would not be at or above the one he already rejected. If he thinks he can do better, he's welcome to look for those greener pastures. As long as the team has Benoit Allaire, they can get passable goaltending.

What's most sad is this organization finally has a very good home grown bottom 6. The Rangers have had to pay through the behind either in UFA or at the TDL. Now they have the quality bottom 6 that a contending team would need.

Cuylle, Chytil, Kakko, Edstrom, Berard (small sample size but I think he's been great so far), Rempe. None homegrown but super cheap in Carrick and Vesey.

Only top 6 player that has been good for the season is Laff.

All in all, I get it now, but I still didn't all these years where he wasn't enough. And again, if Zibanejad and Trouba outlast him on this roster, which they likely will, it'll be f***ing tragic.
Why would it be tragic? Mika has been more productive as a Ranger in far less games.

I mean I’m not saying any of this is wrong, but he also is, without hyperbole, not one of the Rangers 12 best forwards right now
That is not what the analytics show.

Since signing his new contract Laf has been abyssmal. In fact has been the worst performing skater not named Truba or Lindgren over the past couple of games. Check his game scores over at Hockeystatcards.
