Not a Snowflake in Hell chance that Ottawa would do it...maybe if we added Miller and a pick to even it out . Tkachuk does so much more that Laf will never be able to do. It is not all measured in points despite what some think . They just don't understand and likely have never played the game PERIOD . There is not one GM or coach in the league that would not deal Laf for Tkachuk....not one !

Yeah I don't think Ottawa would do that either. That said Lafreniere is seriously good young player.

Both Tkachuk's are like modern day Messier's. Brady is not a massive producer but he's a steady and a very good one. He and his brother are pretty much the spiritual leaders of their teams and there's maybe only a handful of players around the league that I'd define like that--Crosby, Bergeron before he retired would be others. They do everything for their teams and are front line and center when the proverbial shit hits the fan. Matthew would easily be the first player I'd take off the Panthers if given a choice---ahead of Barkov, Reinhart and Forsling.

Then why does the Ottawa board want to make that trade? See below:

If they move Brady, they will want a sure thing coming back.

I am going to call it now. Brady Tkachuk for Alexis Lafreniere. He wore #11 in Junior, and apparently Melnyk and Dorion pushed hard to try and get him in 2020 but the Rangers wanted the Stutzle pick and Tkachuk.

You can only avoid the French Canadian superstar to Ottawa timeline for so long. Gatineau and Orleans need a hero if we're ever going to stop the next generation from cheering for the Montreal Toilets.

For the Rangers, the cap works out next year since Lafreniere's big extension will kick in. So there is only about 1M difference between the two. They don't care that Tkachuk is only signed 3 more years after this season, because their window to win is now and as a world class city/org in the biggest market, they don't have to worry about Tkachuk walking.

The Senators do it because once Tkachuk's NMC kicks in, they aren't getting a piece like Lafreniere, even if that's a downgrade in the short term (although, he could surpass Tkachuk). Lafreniere is locked down for another 7 years, where as if they keep Tkachuk, even if he doesn't want out now, they have to start thinking about trading him in a season or two anyways if he won't re-sign here. Add in the marketing potential of Lafreniere when they are trying to capture the Gatineau/Orleans fanbase. Daigle 2.0 in that regard.

Lastly, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, it gets Tkachuk's wife close to New Jersey. I think if both management teams were at a crossroads, one look at her Instragram would melt their hearts and convince them to bridge the gap and get the deal done so that she could be closer to home. I know people think GMs are mainly concerned with on ice matters, but anybody who has ascended beyond being a mere "fan" and is more of an enthusiast for the management side of the game understands how important it is for the teams to create a situation where the player's wives have good vibes all around.

Most GMs have shadow Instagram accounts that they use to follow the players wives so that they can see what mantras or slogans are being posted, the moment they see a "if you can't take me at my worst you dont deserve me at my best", they know that they need might need to make a move to improve the bottom pairing D, because even if the wife doesn't know it, spouting a mantra like that on Instagram as a grown woman in 2024 is a pretty good indication that while Travis Hamonic is a respected veteran, his lower footspeed and reaction time makes it far too easy for rival teams to forecheck against him.

The above is why I would expect a Tkachuk for Lafreniere trade.

Not to mention that despite it not being measured in points... Tkachuk is better at that too

Then why does the Ottawa board want to make that trade? See below:

That isn't the "board" wanting to make the trade.

That is me pitching a trade concept for if Tkachuk wants out, and why it works for both sides.

While I sometimes do view myself as a perpetual Hart candidate on the Sens board, it's a team effort over there. I'm not the entire board. I won't name any names other than Aragorn, but we have many great posters. We're a team.

The concept of the trade was predicated on the Senators missing the playoffs, and Tkachuk wanting out. The Senators would be in a position where they need to get the best piece back before July 1st, because once his NMC kicks in, the trade market will be a lot more difficult. The purpose of the proposal was not that Lafreniere is as valuable as Tkachuk 1 for 1 on paper. But in this context, Lafreniere would be an excellent return.

And from the rangers side it would be stupid.

Laf is more controlled but still plays with an edge.
Laf is the better offensive talent.
Laf is cheaper and has an extra 3 years on his deal.

Ottawa wants to do Tkachuk and an unprotected first, now things get interesting.
It will take an actual overpay to move Laf. We have zero incentive to do it especially for someone like Tkachuk.

It's a fair deal for both sides....Each fanbase would probably be split down the middle which means it's actually a decent proposal.

I said my peace.

Sure. Except your initial point has was basically "laf french/ Tkachuk american"

You talked about "win now" for the rangers, and I pointed out, Laf helps the rangers win more than Tkachuk helps the sens win.

Laf is the better offensive player NOW. And younger, and cheaper.

So unless you have something to refute that point, your "peace" is as badly thought out as you using the word "peace" instead of piece.

Sorry, I thought I saw several posts on the Sens in favor of trading BT for Laf. I looked through it quickly for an example because the proposal came up here and grabbed yours - I was in transit and rushing.

It’s definitely an interesting proposal, which is why I shared the Sens perspective here. Giving up Laf for BT would hurt, but it’s always going to hurt when you trade for a player of that caliber.

That said, I can’t fathom Drury moving Laf, even for BT. Laf made strides this year, is well-liked by his teammates, and just signed a pretty team-friendly extension.

Brady Tkachuk has scored 2.41 pts/50 at 5v5 the last 3 years which is like 24th best among forwards so I find it a bit weird that we're completely minimizing his abilities. Laf didn't score at that level even last season and he played with an MVP candidate. He's a bit younger and could end up better but to act like Brady Tkachuk is not that good is a bit of a weird take.

How is Laf the better offensive player? Tkachuk has more points than Laf, even if you talk even strength points they are tied despite Tkachuk not playing with Panarin. In Tkachuk’s last 2 seasons he had virtually as many points as Laf in his entire career combined

one of these years i hope they figure out the simple, low cost/low disruption move that would change the complexion of the entire team. they need someone who flies around the ice as a menace hounding pucks in the bottom 6. look at cup winners...pitt happened to win again after adding hagelin, tampa with gourde, col broke through with lehkonen, fla had rodriguez and cousins. obviously those are just examples of some established guys, not targets. you want to target a guy with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove.

there's a difference between speed and playing fast. the rangers don't have any speed deficiencies...at least up front for sure...what they do have is an absence of guys with speed who constantly play fast. just one guy like that in the lineup who was a quick, speedy, forechecking menace that retrieved pucks and could force bad decisions by hounding the puck would change the complexion of the entire roster. if you have one guy in your lineup who brings that, it will have guys on the other team playing a bit rushed whether he's on the ice or not...for a team that loves transition offense, it's borderline dereliction of duty by mgmt to not have made it a mission to find a player like that.

Tkachuk already has one foot out the door, Ottawa would be all over that. Laf is signed long term and he’s somewhat local.
For sure....no way he stays in Ottawa or Canada for that matter I figure . Quiet talks likely are already happening....Drury will read about it 3 months after the deal is completed. Rangers have everything to make it happen....surely Drury is not that stupid to not be involved in this potential transaction .
