Yes, and we were presidents trophy last year. Our last three game were all pretty ugly, and we are reverting back to what we were last year.

Good regular season team, who probably has not shot of cup.

We have the same shortfalls as the last three years. Because we are the same team.
The eye test doesn't apply to some of these analytics gurus.

The funny part is is even the analytics showed we were outplayed i believe.

In the Florida game and especially last night yeah. Last night's game was basically the inverse of the Pittsburgh and Montreal games.

They were better against Anaheim though. Not that that means much bc they suck but anyone who thinks the Rangers got outplayed in that game is just looking to link the three games together or are blinded by the 2 really good saves that Quick made while ignoring the half dozen Dostal had to make.

I agree about anaheim. We generally were the better team. But Still too loose. Bad tendencies were there and on display, but we are a superior team than anaheim personnel wise and we can overcome it easier. And we did. It definitely wasnt a great game by us, but not the worst either

Dostal btw has been fantastic this year and has been maybe the best goalie in the NHL to date.

If this team has any plans on contending in the playoffs, they need Mika. Shit on him all you want, and it's mostly deserved, but they're toast if he goes down and they lose him, or any of the three, for the season. They have good centers but their center depth is shit. You're one hit away from Johnny Bodz centering Kakko and Cuyle. Good luck. Lav needs to sort this stuff out and balance playing the hot hand with getting guys going offensively.

You could argue that every team needs a dynamic offensively gifted center if they want to contend in the playoffs.

Yes we want mika to be successful, but the problem is mika's game is lacking effort. Thats not an injury issue, thats not a speed issue, thats not an age issue. Thats a hard problem to fix.

I don't think he doesn't care or isn't trying, i think he's just stuck in his own head.

Had the night to sleep on it after mocking #79 all game in the GDT. So this am, and watching the game and rewinding a lot, I can admit that he wasn't as bad as I thought.

He sucked way worse.

Mancini needs to stay in the line up.

The Chytil line is awesome.

The Meeka line is humiliating.

Rare off night for Trocheck line. They were stuck in the mud.

Matt got cut by his visor.

Edstrom was bad in the first. Good the rest of the way.

Adam Fox has been good. But not great. Used to be sold top 3 in the league. Now, top 10.

Don't see a way that Drury doesn't trade his 1st rounder. Blah.

How did the Capitals make possibly make the Rangers look slow?

Completely outworked along the boards, and the moon could of rolled down the center of the ice in front of Igor without being touched.

Put 79 back with Trouba, and Lindy back with Fox.

Or scratch #79. Or trade #79. ( won't happen duh)

Wish we had 3 lines of Chytil, Cuylle, KK.

Because this worked so great for us. Miller with Fox is statistically a much better pairing than Lindgren with Fox.

It’s going to take more than a road loss to a team playing like it’s the playoffs due to getting swept for me to give up in these guys.

D pairs still in flux. Mika slumping. Other forwards are fine.

Why did the Capitals play like they had something to prove yesterday but the Rangers didn't play like they had something to prove against the Panthers? The Rangers clearly don't give a flying f*** either way.

I just can't fathom a cup contender to get demolished like they did yesterday against a middle of the road team. This was probably the worst game they played in years. It's a red flag.

It's a bad game. I can assure you every team has games like that each year. Edmonton lost a game 8-1 to Vancouver last year. Florida had a game with a 27 xG% that they somehow won and won with 26.4 against Buffalo that they lost. Vegas had a game with a 19 xG% the year they won the cup. Florida had a game with a 17 xG% that same year (reached the cup final)

I'd love to see if there were injuries and how the rest was. The Rangers literally had no excuse yesterday. Just didn't feel like playing.

Washington off to a hot start, trying to prove they're for real, playing on national TV against the defending president's trophy winners who swept them in Round 1 last year - and they played like it. Rangers were within a goal despite getting absolutely dominated. I wouldn't worry too much about a random game in October

And why did the Rangers not play like they had something to prove against the Panthers? Team is just going through the f***ing motions.

I don’t think anyone is thinking we’re gonna miss the playoffs or even be a wild card team.
But these are noticeable flaws and long term concerns that aren’t getting better.

Yeah, because they don't feel that pressure, even if as fans we want them to feel it. They were 5-0-1 going into that game and are coming off a President's Trophy. Also, the Rangers do not adjust in game to different play styles, which is partly why they lost to the Panthers in the first place. At some point, they need either the Panthers to be eliminated by another team or they will need to play a more straight line, simple game to beat them. Doubtful with this cast of characters that will happen, but all we can do is hope.

I'm not saying not to discuss them, I feel the same way as many of you. But you can't act like every loss means the team isn't a Stanley cup contender. They're not going to breeze through 82 games against teams trying to knock them off. It's not a realistic mindset as a fan. They've played 4 bad games (maybe 3 if you think the Utah game wasn't bad) out of 9 and won 1 of them on the back of their goalie. It is what it is. Over the course of 82 games, they will probably play subpar in about 20-25 games at minimum. Just like every other team

Not too worried about Mika. He's looked bad, but this isn't the first time he looked sluggish to start the year. Here is his performance through the first 9 games over the past 5 years:

2024-2025: 2G 5A, 7PTS
2023-2024: 2G 7A, 9PTS...72 Total Pts for year
2022-2023: 5G 6A, 11PTS...91 Total Pts for year
2021-2022: 1G 6A, 7PTS...81 Total Pts for year
2020-2021: 1G 1A, 2PTS...50 Total Pts for year (56 GP)

Can't imagine he can be much worse than he is now. He will turn it around. Always does

It's just because you don't watch 82 games of the other teams so you are unlikely to see their bad games.
You also don't contextualize everything into a judgment about a single team then. There are two separate teams that you feel objectively (ish...) about.

Never turned it around last season. He’s been trash for well over a year and half , don’t see it getting better
