Edström > Rempe

deal with it
In isolation do you get a single argument to the contrary?

But Rempe is 21 and made NHL roster (though maybe we the benefit of injuries elsewhere). Edstrom is 24 and at the same age was playing well below NHL level of competition. Also, can you quantify how the Rangers players who are significantly better than Edstrom get to play with more intensity due to something that transpires when Rempe is in the lineup? Finally, they are in internal competition with each other to push their performance up which is a good thing for the team as a whole, agree?

I just don't get vitriol as a thing among Rangers fans in this Rempe vs. Edstrom. We're lucky to have both develop as they've done so far from where they had been drafted. Well done, Drury!

I dont see how we arent retooling in a couple years when panarin’s deal expires. Mika is a shell of himself - 3C PP specialist.

We dont have a 1C, 1LD, or 1RW and none in the pipeline. defense is kind of a mess. Aside from Laf and hopefully Gabe, every high end forward pick has been a bust which has really f***ed us. What am I missing?

Lafreniere - Trocheck - ?
Kreider - Zibanejad - Perrault/?
Cuylle - Chytil - Kakko

? - Fox
Miller - Schneider (gross pairing)
? - Mancini

Edstrom is a real player with some skill who just happens to be big. There's a reason he said that was his first ever fight. He just plays normally. Rempe's only calling card is that he is big and physical.

I must have missed, with Rempe, why a 22 year old who hasn't performed well against lower competition, is locked in to an NHL job and can't go down to the AHL to learn. It's not just offense. He clearly has to learn about how to be physical in a smarter way without the amount of high hits and elbows he's had so far. The point of the AHL is to learn these things without the high stakes of the NHL. He barely even plays in the NHL when he does play. You'd think he could go to the AHL and the coaching staff could be instructed to give him his 8-11 mins/game, let him try the PK, not bench him in the third period etc.

He was brought up last year for his fighting. Not his hockey skills. Now he's "an NHL player". I do get annoyed that he plays over guys who can contribute to a win. We didn't need him that game. Edstrom and Carrick took care of business when necessary. Rempe watched. Maybe he "inspired" them... I doubt seriously the other guys play better because he's in the lineup. I doubt he's deterring anything.

I agree with most of this, but I think you're being a little harsh on Rempe. He's a kid that clearly hasn't grown into his body yet. Edstrom moves with the fluidity of a someone who has their "man strength."

If Rempe isn't going to be in the lineup regularly (and there's really no reason for him to be), he should be getting reps in Hartford as much as possible. He's waiver exempt, so there's no reason not to be sending him down there to get development minutes.

Also, Rempe has had several big moments including in the playoffs. Edstrom’s big moments came in a rookie camp and preseason game.

Rempe barely played in the preseason and was told to skip rookie camp, he didn’t have those same opportunities to impress against sub-tier competition.

As much as we hear the "There's nothing wrong with being a 3rd line player" tossed around for Kakko, I think if that's his projection at the end of 2 years, he's likely gone and not on our 3rd line.

It could be worse than it looks on paper. 2 years doesn't seem like a long time but it can be for players over 30. In that scenario, Zibanejad's play has decreased even more, and 33 year old Trocheck is going to take the 1C. I guess you can argue his line already is the real 1st line anyway, but he won't have the benefit of the coach matching another line against other teams top players, or other teams matching their players against the Zibanejad line because they missed the memo that they can't 5 on 5.

Trades and free agency will obviously be used and can change that that roster is looking very weak after the end of next season. Hopefully, Panarin can play at a top or top 6 level still and will sign a short term deal because we're very thing on top 6 or star power when it comes to prospects.

At least Lias Andersson was able to get the LA Kings 2ed round draft pick to the Rangers to select Will Cuylle. Andersson did more in the trade than his NHL career.

Why do you hate Perrault? what did he ever do to you?

Also, I find it really amusing how worked up some folks get over Rempe.

Miller Fox is currently dominating as a top 10 defensive pairing in the nhl (xgf)
Every pair(except Hughes /hronek) ahead of them has played about 1/2 their minutes.
Smallish sample size but their numbers have always looked very very good.

Yeah other player do play better - from their own personal admissions, retired or active or coaching staff etc.

Personally, I don't separate fighting from hockey skills - it's part of overall skillset. How important it is obviously subjective but it should not be excluded or completely discounted / disregarded just because you can't exactly quantify it as goals or assists. In someways it's no different than goalie making an amazing highlight save can have a similar impact on skaters in offensive situations.

Hear me out…I wouldn’t take Zib off the PP unless I was at gunpoint but if I was at gunpoint it would be Chytil joining the group 1000% before Laf.

We don't even need Rempe just to have a fighter given Sam Carrick already has the third most fights over the last 3 years.
