No matter how a coach arranges these chess pieces it will not change the team dramatically. We are a skilled team but an easy team to play against. Florida realized they had to drastically change their team identity to win and they did that. That is very hard to do so I give them props. I do not know what we need to do but I do know this current group is not winning a cup. We can get close but we are not winning one without legitimate changes imo.
Nicky - we've gone back and forth on a issue i'll broadly describe as "the infallibility of NHL coaches." I think we have here a very specific example of that issue.

Without expanding your answer to generalizations about the team being east to play against, do you think Lindgren should be paired with Fox right now?

Jets fan coming in peace, should be a wild one tomorrow and I'm really looking forward to it.
Can someone give me a breakdown of the top line fiasco Laviolette is orchestrating? Is he just trying to generate more offence out of Mika to get him going? And whats going on with the D pairs? Im genuinely curious - our boneheaded coach from last year, although he was great in many aspects forced a lot of lineup changes that drove us up the f****ing wall

PS you will be happier with Trouba out of the lineup - hes toxic on the ice and in the changeroom.
Only if you can return an answer on how ScottArnielformerRangersassociatecoach is pulling this off.

But where were we in expected toughness %?
This is the answer

Save Panarin and Laf, please I’m begging you Lavi. Let the 2 BFF’s rot together. For all the shit Mika has been getting Kreider has been just as bad even strength. The only time you notice Kreider is on the power play or penalty kill. I know some think he’s Mr. Ranger and all but he’s always MIA too, and with that size and strength he never uses it.

This is concerning. It makes the path to the cup very difficult.

Going to be posting tomorrow’s GDT tonight since I’ll be traveling back to NY tomorrow.

Think I’m going for a Mika or Lindgren theme , what do you guys think? :sarcasm:
Can we get a talented poster to superimpose Mika and Ryan’s (bubble head) onto one of these photos and go with a West Side Story vibe?

Who is the magical coach that is winning the cup with this team as is? Or is it a poster on HF that could do it but not a NHL coach?

I do not think Lindy is a top pair Dman on any Cup team. I also worry about Fox in his own end based on his own playoffs.

Another reminder that we were #1 in the NHL in xGF% when Lindgren came back
I remember there being some talk (can’t remember if it was a Lavi quote or Brooks article or something) about how the way we were playing was “unsustainable” or something to that effect, and after that I knew we were going to go back to sucking—even without Lindgren, though that certainly sealed the deal lol.

I think these coaches see one high danger chance against and poop their pants. So frustrating. Even more frustrating given the fact that we’re about to give a goalie a historical sum of money.

I would do dirty things to pry Crosby out of Shitsburgh for his remaining years. I threw up while writing that but it’s the NYR way of getting stars past their prime. Maybe Drury can convince Dubas to take Mika and just sell Mika on how Vegan/DJ friendly Pittsburgh is:sarcasm:

couldn't help yourself, i see!

it's not my job to know who the mAgIcAl CoAcH is. I'm not paid millions to know that.

Laviolette, however, is paid millions and deploying the players on the roster is absolutely his job.

You didn't answer the question. Everyone knows Lindgren isn't a top pair defenseman on a Cup winning team. I'll be even more specific: do you think Laviolette is making a mistake by playing Lindgren with Fox? Or is his coaching acumen so vast and inscrutable that mere commenters such as us may never call such things into question?

Doesn't the statement "I do not think Lindy is a top pair Dman on any Cup team." count as an answer to your question?

Is this really a surprise? Mika and Kreider have been shit ES players for 2 years now. Dont care what the fancy shit stats say. Drury NEEDS TO SELL HIGH ON KREIDER in the summer when this core once again fails again. Get a young player like a Brassard/Mika trade.

Agreed. We need to unhitch our wagon from the core “leadership” group of Zib, Kreider, Trouba, and Lindgren. Not necessarily thru trade, Dallas was able to shift the core from Benn-Seguin without getting rid of them. I mean, please get rid of of Trouba and Lindgren, but even if you keep Zib and Kredier, they cannot be the focal point of this team anymore. We know where they will lead us and it’s to a 3rd round exit at best.

There's definitely a huge element of that.

We had one bad game against Washington. Granted, it was an all-time bad game, but still one game.

So Lavi completely blows up the lineup, and it's only gotten worse since, but this is the lineup now.

They're not the focal point now. Mika is trending for his lowest TOI in seven years.

The biggest thing now is to get rid of Trouba and Lindgren entirely. You can't hide defensemen.

They are still first over the boards for PP, PK, OT, 6 on 5 , EN situations, etc.

5v5 is just a small part of the equation, especially on this team.

That needs to change as well.

They're fine in special teams situations and it doesn't make sense to not utilize them at all based on an emotional response when we're paying them a lot of money.
