If we didn’t go all in for that last three TDL I would never want to trade Perreault.
Does Perreault have a huge upside over Edstrom? Yes, most definitely.
Do I agree that the organization should have gone all in three years in a row?
Absolutely not.
But they did.
So for the upcoming playoffs I don’t see any point in moving Edstrom or Cuylle.
Also I believe I said that if there was a chance of bringing in Vlasic from Chicago and part of the return included Perreault then he would not be untouchable.

It’s been very enjoyable watching the best goaltender in hockey at the top of his game. Don’t ever forget that.

Way too much can happen in the last game of the season. Enjoy the whole season. You will be a lot less miserable.

We know this team will fart and ho-hum its way to the playoffs without breaking a sweat. It's the post season that's interesting to me.

I simply find the fact that the FO and the coaches have done F-all to fix the fundamental flaws this team has, the same flaws that has seen the team fizzle out most pathetically against the Devils and the Panthers rather... curious, to be polite. We had Shesty in those series too so paying him more isn't a fix of anything.

This isn't Peyton Manning orchestrating an offense. This is the Ravens allowing 90 yard drive after 90 yard drive and seeing Ed Reed get an INT. Yeah the INT is a great play but watching the defense is an eye sore. I'd rather see my team dominate chances.

If a trade involved Vlasic and Perreault, Perreault would not be 'part of the return'; he would be the centrepiece.

And we'd need a lot more than even an early 2nd coming back with Vlasic to balance it out.

I thought last game was Mika's best game this season.

I agree. Igor has really been showing why he's a special player pretty much since the season started. He gives the Rangers an edge over pretty much any team in the league going into any given game.

I'd add this and I suspect a lot of people will not like reading it. If the Rangers were to let Igor go onto unrestricted free agency the cap imperatives to move on from both Trouba and Lindgren disappears. To me it's part of our future picture that these things all happen in conjunction with each other---Igor signs and the two defensemen move along to other teams.

We also don't really have an in house goaltender who is ready to take on a starters role. So no Igor and we'll have to find some lesser guy and he'll probably come at a fairly hefty cap number and he won't be nearly as good.

It doesn't make a lot of sense to me to move on from Igor. The team.....some media people and fans are probably going to just have to bite the bullet. Life's like that. Shit happens or in this case your arguably best player (it's between him and Artemi) gets paid.

Me too. I appreciate that with a lesser goalie the team would play tighter defense; a lot of the defensive lapses are due to the offense feeling entitled to attack with the Great Wall of Igor. But I also appreciate it’s way more fun watching the team be able to pay all-gas-no-break than having to go phalanx to shelter a lesser goalie. I can live with the occasion colossal defensive eff-up.

The big issue is... can we create enough offense in the playoffs when cheating doesn't work anymore and you have to come about your goal scoring by hard work, crashing the net and playing stout D? When we have come up against the top-top teams the last few years, this seems to have become our achilles heel.

Sure. And that’s a reasonable question the organization has to work out. Do they open it up and then fall back to a playoff style in the spring? I’m sure that’s what the players want to do and personally I like it as a fan. It’s not easy of course. And when push comes to shove in April-May, how will they adjust. I personally think it’s feasible to treat the regular season differently from the playoffs. But I’m no expert.

I kind of think we're a deeper team this year than we have been at forward and on defense. We will probably fill the team out with a player or two at the deadline though we don't have a lot of draft capital. Those moves should be about making us a harder team to play against. The Panthers were a very hard team for us to play against in last year's playoffs. There's a long way between now and then. Our first test against them didn't turn out well for us but I don't think they're nearly as good or as deep this year.

For the record, I dont mind paying Igor his $$$ and yes he’s awesome to watch but he also masks a lot of deficiencies that are ultimately exposed in the playoffs - its been like this for over a decade. I want a legitimate contender.

I don’t think there’s ever been much debate that consistent goaltending allows teams to stack points in the regular season so not sure why anything would have changed.

If anything we’ve seen this defense has all the same flaws as last year, in overwhelming likelihood capping this team’s upside, which coupled with the goalie comps that have been signed makes paying Igor $11M+ actually seem more insane.

And then you get guys like Lafreniere who is good and may end up being great, but is no Crosby. And Kakko whose ceiling is good middle 6 winger. There's just no guarentee that letting Igor go and reallocating his salary will make us better.
