He also wants a "Stud LD" on a bargain deal without trading any of the good young roster players. Keeping in mind that there are five players who are LD make 4.0-4.5M for 4+ years and they are Graves, M. Anderson, M. Pettersson, McCabe, Leddy. So good luck.

We are strong on the wing but our quality of depth on LD is non existent.
It appears that the organization has no faith in Scanlin because they put him back on the right side in Hartford.
I know there is a hope that Perrault is a can’t miss. I won’t speak to the merit of that argument but the whole point of our fellow posters who are deep in the weeds on amateur hockey is that you draft the best player available and then trade from strength to fill needs.

He's become the Ryan Lindgren of forwards.

While credit should be given to him for making it back and playing as many game as he has, hip resurfacing surgery remains undefeated.

if you think back to 94 when the team purged talent for bottom six to construct a team that won the cup the organization needs these type of players to pin the other teams forwards in their own zone.

Laf is the only winger on the roster signed for more than the next 2 seasons and Cuylle is the only other one currently on the roster who is RFA controlled for more than 2.

The depth may be there now, but it isn't going to be there for much longer. Trading Perreault is a bad idea for many reasons, but mostly because they're going to need productive ELC players to off set the bigger contracts (Laf, Fox, what Igor is likely going to get.)

The FO screwed the pooch by not solving their Lindgren problem this offseason. They don't need a young stud LD, they just needed someone who is capable of reliably handling top 4 minutes and isn't a detriment at both ends of the ice. Those guys were available but instead we've got a 4.5 million dollar guy who might as well just be a rut in the ice. Sean Walker (who many of us wanted to take a look at) is making a million less and can reliably play both sides while being 100x the player.

I don't know when that hip thing started but Kane hasn't been good since 2016.

We're 11 games into the season. The team defense has been really soft and Igor's hot start (which he needed for contract leverage) has covered for a lot of that but isnt this to be expected? This is a better team on paper than the one that won the President's Trophy last year, and by my eye, outside of the last few games, the Rangers are generating much better at 5v5. Healthy Chytil, the long awaited addition of Reilly Smith and guys like Cuylle and Edstrom making an impact all have contributed. Everyone at forward has gotten off to a pretty good start, (even if Mika is an infuriating player to watch now, hes a PP/PK specialist who is essentially a PPG). Laf is a star.

Long term I see the defense as a question mark. Theyve been too soft with this main 5 to get past Tampa and Florida. Why think this year will be different? Trouba has looked more steady but all parties know this year is it for him. Schneider is pretty untouchable to me, he is ready to step in full time to that top 4 role and he's already doing it out of necessity on his off side. Mancini looks like Schneider as a rookie with better puck skills. They are set down the right side with Emery coming behind as well.

The left side is the big issue Drury needs to deal with. Lindgren and Miller are both in need of new contracts this summer. Has either played like a guy you want to pay? Lindgren, I think has looked better in the small sample size as a 3rd pair PK specialist. I liked the agitator role he played against Brady Tkachuk the other day. That is where he is most useful. Miller just always leaves me wanting more, he's not bad but there's more potential there that he just has not reached. Needs to play bigger & harder in all facets. But he's a top 4 D man and Id give him what we gave Brady Skjei (5x5+). I personally think Drury needs to consolidate assets to upgrade on one of them (Lindgren preferably) for a veteran lefty who can be a part of this Fox/Lafreniere core going forward. Essentially what Trocheck's addition was for the forward group, on defense. I haven't really identified who that player might be in my head yet but I think that's the move the Rangers need to make to take the next step.

Traditionally it takes longer to develop d men. What’s the plan. It appears that other teams have started to lock up pending 25/26 UFA defensemen.
We have very little draft capital. I believe one of the few paths that remain is trading for a solid young LD. That’s going to cost assets.

The reason that is given is then you can trade from strength to address a need.

You yourself just recently posted that there are 9 better forwards in Hartford that are better than Matt Rempe (who at 22 has already played in over 30 NHL games) if this is true how many more Rangers prospects that haven’t turned pro are better?
To me that signals a great pool of forward depth.
If it takes a package of one of Othmann or Perrault and a d-man then so be it.

I don't like Trouba and Lindgren together though. Schneider deserves top 4 minutes, not 3rd pair, so IDK how to split them up.

Perreault is the all time record holder for points scored in a season in USNTDP. More than Matthews. More than Hughes. More than Kane.

eh I mean they played some mediocre teams and Toronto.

That said it's only been like 10 games so getting all hyped one way or the other is pointless.

However I continue to feel pain in my heart over what Fox could have been if this team wasn't insistent on chaining him to Lindgren and watching him sink

Fair, but we've also played mediocre teams in the last two, and gotten shelled.

One would think the most obvious place to look for a solution to our current problems would be to stop playing the guy with a broken jaw, abysmal possession numbers, and umpteen failed eye tests. Or at least leave him on the 3rd pair where he can warrior it up without causing as much damage.

This is like watching the same shitty horror movie on repeat for the 10th time in a row, just hoping that this time they'll realize their mistakes and stop getting killed in the same stupid way everytime.

yeah despite his flaws I'll take Miller up there with Fox any day

Even if we're gonnna say "yeah we should keep Lindgren in the lineup he brings something" they should at least let him heal all the way so he doesn't have to use that helmet which further hinders his already meager skills

There were a few players I would have liked this off-season as UFA's who I thought would have been nice additions but all of those guys were incredibly overpaid in either term or cap hit. Brenden Dillon, Matt Roy, Sean Walker.

I would not have been enamored with signing any of these guys to long term deals at their cap hits and removing Lindgren from the equation. I truly think Drury had plans to try to upgrade that spot but the contracts were insane and he selected to punt until next offseason (hence the 1 year deal for Lindgren).

The problem is, next off-season, apart from Provorov, Chychrun, Gavrikov and maybe Petersson, the list of UFA d-men is pretty poor. Now that may work in Drury's favor when he trades Trouba but in terms of a LD replacement...

In fairness, the top-9 forwards, generally, are pretty even in terms of ES TOI so juggling the lines at 5v5 isn't that big of a deal.
