It was cute watching them stammer their way through 2022. We had hope that the team would continue to improve and it was significant to gain that experience in the meantime. I enjoyed just watching them win even if it was ugly.

Playing the same hockey the last 2+ years wore off about 2+ years ago.
By the end of the year, we may look back at those 2+ years more fondly.

Igor is definitely overrated but Id be willing to pay him if we move out the other big contracts. Not 12 or 13 million but something more reasonable. If he doesnt want to be here, no skin off my ass. I also wouldnt mind the Rangers franchise learning to win games without a goalie to bail them out.

He was GM of the Wolfpack for 4 seasons and hired Kris Knoblauch. It's only been 4 years but he was a finalist for the Panthers GM candidacy before the Rangers told him to stick around to replace Gorton

My point is 1994 made it sound like Dolan sits there and does nothing when literally Drury got his job because Dolan fired the previous GM and president in order to win.

This whole "woe is Shesterkin" because of his defense is ridiculous. Are they the best defensive team in the league? No. Even though they've been the worst for like 15 games this season, you'd think we're talking about poor Igor playing behind the Blackhawks or something. And he's been a big part of the shitshow himself. Why are we making him a f***ing martyr? And he's a greedy tool whose ego is not less than Georgiev's. Because he was hearing how he's the best in the league because of the Florida series that he couldn't stop giving up softies in.
People mention something happened in the room in camp. I'm not into conspiracies but I do wonder if Igor turning that contract down had anything to do with it. Demanding to be the highest player on the team, not a great look I don't think.

His softies in the Tampa and Florida series at the worst times are constantly ignored. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills here.
"crazy pills" from the local councilman for mental health sensitivity...

If you think he is the reason they lost those serious you are completely delusional. Again - you bring up goals you think he should have made but completely ignore what I said that you responded to: with a different goalie, they never even make it that far. He is the reason this mediocre team has had success in the playoffs.

Success in the playoffs? This isn't European club football, where finishing 2nd, 3rd or 4th in the league gets you a consolation prize via getting into UEFA tournaments. Once you are over the threshold of "making the playoffs", anything but winning the SC is a failure.

Igor has been a big part of the reason why this team has made two ECFs in the last 3 years, but if that isn't going to bring us over the top to win a cup, what are we doing here?

I'm not saying we should trade him, but re-signing him to over 12M dollars when there's a guy like Hellebuyck who just signed for 8m. Not to mention Swayman, Oettinger, Ullmark. Is Shesterkin better than these goalies? Yeah I think so. Not +4M better.

We need to build a better roster where we don't need Shesterkin to bail us out. And if we re-sign him to 12M per, good luck doing that.

I'm not interested in litigating what qualifies as success or failure. It's subjective. You can interpret my use of the word success as "winning many games and multiple rounds."

The rest is exactly what we're discussing - what fair value for Shesterkin is, and whether it makes sense to pay fair value let alone what he's demanding.

He might not even be better.

The franchise is in its worst place in decades of this guy is extended

The more I think about it, I think the way to make a meaningful trade would rely on our willingness to trade Schneider. I read a couple of days ago that we would have had JT Miller last year if we were willing to include Schneider.

I could see Dallas taking Kreider and Schneider for Bourque, Bischel, Dadonov and a draft pick.

Laf, Schneider, and Berard to the Senators for Brady and Kelvin.

Vancouver and others would also be enticed by a good physical RD. Granted it would create another hole for us, but it could lead to another trade or two where we could fill two or three holes.

Regarding trades....

Just how deep are the upcoming two draft years? Because moving some of the core will have to be to contenders, since rebuilding teams wont want/need early to mid-30's players with term. So, if any of the core are dealt to contenders, and if picks are the return, you would have to assume that those picks would be in the bottom third of any round.
Yes you are correct they will be in the lower end of the 1st round BUT I want cap space. We have enough in system to fill out bottom 6 on offense and Top 2 to 3 on Defense. We need new elite playoff performers. They need to be acquired through Free agency. With expanded cap and stars coming up the NHL player movement should loosen up and we could be back as a upper tier team within 2-3 years. Igor-Kreider-Kam-Trouba-Lindgren-Bread-Mika-Trochek should garner a decent haul of picks and prospects. New Core- Fox-Laf-Filip-Cuylee-Kaako-Schneider-Mancini-Edstrom-Gabe

There's a difference between using a specific disease and a broad generic term like crazy, but you know that you just wanted to be an asshole.

Igor legit didn't do much in the playoffs last year. He gave up 3 goals or more in practically every game against the Canes. We won that series because Freddie Anderson sucked not because Igor was amazing. He just looked great in the playoffs because he goes 20+ games every year where he forgets how to play hockey. As soon as he becomes NHL caliber again everyone is drooling all over themselves because of the great goalie. And yet over and over he gives up softies at the worst times. But his apologists apparently don't care about his softy addiction. Apparently you can't bring that up.

I love how you previously called me not a fan because I got on Kreider for f***ing up a 2 on 1 against Calgary. And yet you trash an entire team that won the Presidents' trophy last year despite Igor becoming AHL level garbage for half the season. Who is "not a fan"?

ah yes a good haul for 8 of our most highly compensated, longest-tenured, letter-wearing, most decorated players. Easy as boo.

maybe the Rangers should have had hired a defensive coach that was a defensive style of player. Bringing in Housley is like if they brought in Leetch as a defensive coach. I really doubt a former offensive skilled player would know how to coach defensive hockey in today’s NHL.
You also need players capable of playing defense, which seem to be in short supply in Rangerstown.

buddy Carolina dominated them most of that series. I'm not saying he didn't give up soft goals. every goalie does. But he made a lot more than the team deserved based on their play.

i don't get the accusation of fandom. they won the presidents trophy because they got fantastic goaltending and PP production. From Quick especially early in the season, then from both after Igor found his groove. Is acknowledging the team won in an unsustainable way being a bad fan?

Anyway any criticism coming from you is difficult to take seriously. You hate Shesterkin, or all goalies, and become inconsolably enraged any time he gives up a goal.

All i'm saying is he's responsible for winning most of the playoff games they've won.

The Rangers had the best record in the NHL last year despite Igor being objectively terrible for like two months. And yet it's the team that's mediocre. Not that fraud.
Quick and power play.

for your sake i'll qualify - it's a pretty talented team (sans lindgren) who have played pretty consistently mediocre hockey for long enough that i think it's fair to designate them as mediocre.
