Miller's the one you move if you want the best return.

Kreider's the one you move if you want the biggest impact.

Lindgren's the one you move if you want the biggest shakeup.

Uh oh. Is there an incoming asteroid - or what? RB and me are in total agreement and both of us sense what is to come. The game tonight will have very large significance for certain people. 4 sure

you can't just "move lindgren" and you definitely can't just "move Miller." you do not have a body to fill that spot. Mancini, again, is not ready.

what are you getting? a middle 6 C? where do they play? troch to wing? chytil to IR?

Kreider can be moved because he can probably return a LHD - allowing you to move Lindgren - and because we can backfill his spot immediately.

I remain sceptical for a big in-season move. I'm sure Drury would be willing to pull the trigger, but these types of deals are very hard to make in-season.

But you know what? Let's see how long the Sens are willing to watch their young core suck. They've done everything but changed the core so far...

This whole thing was easily avoidable if Kreider and Zibanejad just played with visible effort. That's why they have to go.

You... can get back players who play their positions? The Geneva Convention does not state you can't make a D for D trade if you want to.

It could be real change if 3-4 severely underperforming players get better as a result. I think you'd get some very strong clarity one way or another.
I see we're still hanging onto the fantasy that a bunch of bad players will stop being bad players because their friend got traded.

This is why there's so much pushback on the culture narratives. All of the offending players are also just really bad, with the exception (funny enough) of Kreider.

Yeah, Sens seem an ideal dance partner here. Both teams are underachieving in a critical season for both orgs. Bar is a little lower for the Sens, but they HAVE to make the playoffs this year. New ownership can't be happy.

The move that has the least upheaval with the biggest possible ripple effects is trading a buddy. It's success rate is a matter of opinion but it is a huge consideration when you manage people. It's also the most conservative choice which management will generally prefer.

For the record I've wanted to burn it down for 2 years and still do. But it's not about what I want.

The people you're trying to manage just aren't good at their jobs.

the guys who actually need to be moved are either impossible to move (Mika), will return little to nothing (Lindgren, Trouba) or will leave a huge hole in the lineup (Miller). i really dont see anything major happening.

While I believe it would be incredibly difficult, I can't say it's impossible.

Mika would have to agree to it, which lowers the possibilities considerably. And the other team would have to be one that has a need for a center, is trying to win now, and also has one or more roster players they would be willing to trade.

Looking around the league, we could potentially send Mika to the following teams:

Seattle for Stephenson
Dallas for Seguin
Minnesota for Trenin and/or Hartman
Nashville for Stamkos
St. Louis for Schenn
Utah for Hayton
Boston for Elias Lindholm or Coyle
Detroit for Copp

Add as necessary to balance them. Most of these teams are on the bubble. I don't know if Mika would agree to go to any of them. Getting to play again with Buch in St. Louis or Zuke in Minnesota might be an incentive.

To be clear, any deal would almost certainly happen in the offseason. If the NHL and NHLPA can agree on a new CBA and the cap goes up to 97 mil, teams are going to have money to spend. Taking on Mika's cap hit won't be that big a deal. The only issue will be the term, but if he's an improvement on what they have, or they can send back a contract with equally long term, they may be willing to risk it.

I wonder also if there is a deal out there for Mika and Kreider together. That's probably crazy talk but sending them together might increase the number of teams Mika is willing to go to.
It's a good list, but per my post 2941, if Zib + bread wanna stay in Gotham due to family comfort, I doubt he signs off on any of those.
It would HAVE TO be LI or NJ

like Zib for Pageau

He might change if all of Lindy, Shesty and Trouba are moved asap
otherwise that is it
HOWEV
we can start w/sitting him and 4th line subtle hints

Mika will absolutely be open to waiving his NMC if they move Kreider and cut his role.

He could waive that NMC all he wants. Put it on a flag pole on the top of a mountain and let it waive in the wind. It doesn't matter because he has 5 years left on a deal paying him 8.5m. We aren't going to get any sort of a reasonable return
I don't give care as long as it is more profitable $ [= cap] wise than cutting or buying out

what would THAT look like?

What LHD would y'all trade Kreider for? This is directed at those who think Kreider *shouldnt* be traded btw.

You can't trade lindgren or trouba without a backfill. We have backfills at W. not at D. Mancini isn't ready.

If we can get Chabot for Kreider, I do it.
Hell no on the bold
CK injured/holding back due to zib bs

A guy like Fortescue, that is a guy we can't put in now
but Mancini, accept the growing pains
get him here now

Kreider should not be traded b'c we would want very good return and not seeing acceptably high enuf.
This idea of him + for Tkaczuk is foolish b'c that is not young cost desirable return

Only thing that MIGHT make sense is Kreider + for McAvoy; odds of that are like inside straight at best
but that would be great esp if he is ufa again in 2 seasons

Kreider has more value than those players. If you are trying to make an impactful trade to change the roster, someone with value needs to go. Two years remaining on the contract. $6.5M cap hit is very manageable. The Rangers have already paid off the majority of the contract.

The status quo stinks. The PP personnel needs to change. The entire roster is stale. The Rangers are not winning with this current group.
Yeah, but you are moving good stuff and keeping drek
We need first to cut the shit
literally

Ottawa, St. Louis, Nashville, Boston seem like organizations that I’d be calling that are probably open for business.
Nashville's gonna rip it down, they're not gonna go for hockey trades.

St. Louis is a terrible trade partner because Armstrong must win every trade he makes. He's an HF poster with social skills

Boston and Ottawa I can see do some swaps.

like i said, you can't just "move Lindgren" or "move Miller." Somewhere in the process, in that transaction or another, you have to acquire a backfill.

i'm not sure the last time we saw a hockey trade of two players who play the same position. sure the McGroarty deal but that had extenuating circumstances. Geneva convention may not state that but modern hockey convention does.

You know what? Let them trade Kreider. I hope it happens.

When we have the same team but with a few less goals, maybe the narrative that you can hardass bad players into being good will go away.

Think that Lindgren is the goner. By far the easiest to move of the group of bad players.

Kreider is a threat.

But also, if Kreider was moved then it makes it more likely Zib would waive for a team I'd think.

Highly prefer to not trade Kreider. There are about 15 moves that are more pertinent.

Utah got Sergachev for Moser + Geekie. I know HF loves their top 10 draft picks but Moser was the primary asset there.
