to use a "breakout" - based on an arbitrary round number of points produced - as sole basis for whether we try to sign him is bad process.
Why? He isn’t taking pay cut. Why should we give him a raise if he doesn’t break it out.

Breakouts are like pornography. I can’t define it but I know when I see it. Lafreniere broke out last season. He earned a raise.

If Kakko doesn’t break out, he doesn’t deserve a raise. If he does break out, they can’t afford to pay his raise

nuance. let's use it.

if he scores between 40 and 50 points, with 35+ at evens strength, in 75+ games playing 3rd line minutes, and contributes to NYR success, he will absolutely have earned a raise and a contract.

How are the Rangers affording to pay this raise ?

I need to see you calculator. Especially if Lafreniere and Igor are getting 20+ million between the two of them. They certainly aren’t giving Igor a monster deal to sacrifice their last year of Panarin

Didn’t watch the game but Just popping in to say that our goalie who wants 12.5 million bucks a year should probably be able to win a game where his team scores 5 against the former Arizona coyotes on home ice.
I’m resisting the urge to give you a ton of snark.
The goals were good goals, 4 of the goals came from very in close and tough angle shots. Theres not really much you can do when that happens, and Igor made a bunch of good saves.

Especially when players are left wide open on the blind side for one-timers at practically an empty net.

While i agree. It doesnt make a difference anymore. He needs to make the impossible saves otherwise he is just as good as swayman and not worth 12m.

Sorry, i have no sympathy for him. Be the best player on the ice every game. Especially so bc he doesnt play 30% of the games.

6 more seasons of Mika 🤬🤬🤬🤬

I'd take Brassard over him any day since they're in playoff win mode. Mika is a top line center on a rebuilding team, not a playoff team. Too soft for playoff hockey. Brassard always showed up in the playoffs. Whats Mika's excuse his long hair 🤬🤬🤬🤬

I wouldn’t disagree that the team needs to play better around him because they definitely do but to make the money he wants you have to be a difference maker every night, and I don’t feel that Igor is. A little birdie told me he gave up 2 softies tonight

Meeka should’ve shaved his head like Panarin and deGrom.

Mika should focus on hockey and not his awful DJ career

no leave kid line alone
All due respect to Cuylle, it's more about Chytil and Kakko on that line. Putting Kreider next to them would create havoc, because Kreider CAN also play that style of game. He just doesn't when he's paired with Zibanejad.

The obvious downside would be that the line of Cuylle-Zib-Smith has the potential of being truly awful.

We’re doing “many people are saying” Eklund rumors now eh. Didn’t even know that guy was still alive

NYR consider themselves a competitor. Only two ways we trade Igor. The first is if we shit the bed and are going to miss the playoffs (maybe a 5 percent chance) and trade at the deadline for a haul.

The other is trading his offseason rights for hopefully a late first round pick if someone is really rearing and ready to offer him what he wants before 3 others teams can.

Cuylle busts his ass, and I think as soon as Mika and Ck are broken up, Mika might stop trying to play cute.
I really think this is all about Mika just deferring way too much.
He needs to shot a lot more, and he hesitates so much.
Angry Mika always played better.

but pt is chem is fragile, so go alt route to break up + solve Mika

am hoping if he is told we are not putting vet stars ahead of cap -> youth,
he will get message and waive
LA/TOR are good fits

deal bread w/Trou first
sends message

pls pardon no time to do deep dive
short answer to yr ?

1 -- we do it my way and there is structural long term cap improvement we move Lindy + Vesey for what we need to get cap compliant, then have a bit more acquired we can also move.

2 -- we don't listen to me
say Shesty 12.25 x 4 and no effin clauses
say LaF 12.25 x 4 no nmc min ntc
say KAM 6.25 x 8 no nmc min ntc
say KK 4.25 x 8 no nmc min ntc
say Schneid + Cuyle, bridge plus RempEd modest increases to start = soon but not immediate
so that is 35 + right away

deduct bread 11.6+
deduct Trouba 8
deduct Lindgren 4.5
that is 24 +

remember the above is compared to current salaries
recognize we are paying Shesty 5.6 + already
recognize we are paying KAM 3.8 + already
recognize we are paying LaF 2.3 + already
that is a total of 11.7 which is baked into current deals
thus absorbed into total increased salary projected above

24 + deduct add 11.7 baked in recovered = 35.7

so no other moves
this is 35+ v 35.7
ballpark salary works

Could we try

Kreider-Chytil-Kakko
Cuylle-Mika-Smith

please?
OR....can we just keep the "3rd line" that is playing well together? Give them more time and give Mika's line less.

Everytime Kakko starts to play well we can't wait to move him around. Let it work. Shelter the minutes of the line that deserves their minutes sheltered.

Like I said, I think it's more about Kakko being with Chytil. Cuylle is the third wheel, and Kreider could be better at that. We could maybe actually get more out of Kreider, who is neutered by Zib when 5v5.

I think it's something that should be considered at some point, if the 1st line doesn't get their shit together. But we can afford to give them time.

Money puck has our third line with a 70% xgf.

It’s also chytil and Kakko mostly, but cuylle does some heavy work on the forecheck.
