Even without getting rid of Panarin, which i don't think they would anyways, they could really remake the team.

Kakko, Lindgren, Trouba and Igor could all be gone. Man that's a lot. Players you get back/sign as UFA/prospects that come up. Could be looking at a really different team as early at this deadline. Thats fun. It's scary too cause your like what if they suck? I say so what. We haven't won as the team is now so what are you protecting? Like playing it safe when down by a goal. Really locking down that loss. Haha

Kakko? Why are we still trying to get rid of a 2.4 AAV solid defensive 3rd liner who is capable of 0.5ppg at EV? (with possible 2nd line potential still?) I could see if he was overpaid, but he's not and you aren't getting better than a 3rd liner for him now so WHY do this? Hey if someone offers a deal that we get better value, sure, he's not untouchable... but why are we LOOKING to be rid of him? He's not Trouba or Lindgren underperforming a contract...

I mean, the type of wealth Dolan has went past being useful many, many millions ago.

He could leave 100,000 a year to his offspring for the next 285 generations.

It's kind of like I wouldn't even want to have the hassle of figuring out what to do with all that. I don't think I have the degree of personal responsibility to do all that well with it and FWIW I don't think anyone else does either.

Because people can’t separate his draft position with his contract and play.

I think there's a lot of merit to this.

As a personal opinion, I'm 1) sick of him and 2) would prefer somebody on the third line who I feel might score which I never feel with Kakko, especially in the playoffs.

That being said, I don't think Kakko is a bad value player like say, Trouba, who's making like $8m more than he's worth.

That's fair, though IF Chytil stays healthy I think we are going to get well above average 3rd line scoring... be good to also have Kakko's defensive presence on that line. Of course its a BIG "if."

I would trade shesty for Marner.
With what cap. Also you thought Panarin was bad in the playoffs?
I think both Marner and Tavares come
Off their cap this year.

That a massive chunk of change.
Tavares comes off, and marner isn’t “off” he needs to be re-signed.
And the Tavares money goes to marner who’s getting a raise.
They’re not giving all of Tavares money to a goalie.

Agreed - we have a real legitimate chance this year. If we don't win this year, I would hate to handcuff us for the next 8 with ANOTHER huge contract. I think Drury has been shrewd and is too smart to do so.

My biggest concern will always be whether guys like Zibs, Panarin, and Fox can play in the playoffs. I'll quote Emily Kaplan, "you can't win when the other team's first line center is always outplaying yours." Remps, Ed, Cuylie (+ the right free agent or two at the deadline) and maybe we can compete with the snarl of a team like Florida. In order to not be angry ALL the time, I am going to consider Zibs our third line center and PK specialist. That is how he has been scoring anyway. Obviously alot of that depends on a healthy and productive Chytil.
Yup and there are so many question marks long-term. This team is old with no immediate solutions except maybe Perrault? Going to be a very interesting three years. Could (and imo should) be looking at a retool as soon as 25-26.

Our team isnt young and this what the 4th shot for this core. Its not like our star players are suddenly going to get better.

i just see the writing on the wall with this team. Give them a final shot this year, and if it fails again just rip off the baindaid and kickstart hopefully a fast retool with all the forwards we can sell and get a haul for.

Our d is very young still and we can build around them.

dan Rosen speculated today on NhL radio that Igors side leaked it out.

He said Drury runs a tight ship and there was no reason for the Rangers to leak.

Interesting to listen to

Again just speculation.
Our D is young, but has a ton of question marks. Fox is Fox, but KAM I think has hit his ceiling which isnt good enough. Maybe Schneider takes another step? I see dark days ahead

I don’t think they keep Marner.

It’s more likely they use some
Of the money to re-sign Tavares at a lower rate and use the rest elsewhere while letting Marner walk.

That would be a very dumb move.
marner isn’t the best playoff performer but he’s also a top 10 nhl player in the regular season and he’s a better version of Panarin as he’s more defensively engaged.
Keeping Tavares but letting marner walk would be like us letting laf walk but keeping Panarin.

Marner has a ton of heat on him (the type of heat that Panarin should have.)

Entirely possibly they let both walk but it’s hard to come back from the ire of a Canadian hockey market.

Thats a discussion that needs to be had based on the contracts our RFAs get. An aging Panarin who has shown he can't get it done in the playoffs consistently is not a must-sign personally but Im open to it.

I mean, if he'd sign for $9m it's a no brainer. His 'can't get it done in the playoffs' had him at 15 points in 16 games and a +10.6 CF% Rel at 5v5.

I can understand the gripes about him as the PRIMARY offensive catalyst, although I think they are a bit overblown. But if he came back as A PIECE, I think he'd be a very good addition on a medium term deal. I mean the guy had 120 points last year

Some insider mentioned Utah could make a big splash this year. Send Shesterkin to Utah where he can sign his big money, 8 year deal and play with Sergachev. Aim for Tij Iginla and a 2025 1st round pick.

Then pipe dream would be flipping Iginla (and Garand?) to Calgary for Dustin Wolf. Let him grow into the starter role with Quick as his mentor.
