I'm not sure where Othmann was supposed to go.

The top 9 is set. You could argue it shouldn't be but nobody goes with exactly the same thing again like they went 98-0 quite like the Rangers.
If Othmann took Kakko's spot he would just produce the same with worse defense. He hasn't shown some offensive spark in the opportunities he has been given.

So Berard makes the team? He wasn't sent down. Rangers have 27 players still.

Panarin
Lindgren
Vesey

Rangers should put Vesey and Lindgren on IR.

Which would make 25. Send down Brodzinski and waive Ruhwedal

Rangers are at 26 players with Lindgren and Vesey out. Rangers usually go with 22 guys. My guess is there are two more cuts and one of them is Robertson and the other will be Berard or at least will be if we're cap compliant which I believe we will be.

When Lindgren and Vesey come back more decisions will have to be made.

Trade Kakko for a young dman that can go to the AHL without waivers. Kakko gets the Rangers defensive depth. Othmann takes his spot

They also wouldn't demote Kakko if he murdered somebody.

Winning teams get close and then make changes because close = not good enough.

The Rangers' mentality is "let's make sure we stay close and maybe some weird shit will happen."

Keeping the same core won't change the team, but could make the Rangers worst as other teams improved

Othmann has been built up by the fanbase as more than what he is because of a lack of high end prospects in the system. The fact that he’s been cut is not surprising in the least.

He looked like trash at multiple points this preseason
Besides Edstrom, Chytil, and maybe Mancini and Jones who hasn’t been trash this preseason?

You need to trade Kakko to make room for Othmann OR trade Othmann at this point. As it currently is, unless there is a major leap at AHL level, Othmann value is tanked

On Panarin it wouldn't surprise me if or before his contract is up the Rangers try to sign him again for a bit less money and for a somewhat shorter term length. He'll be 35 when his next contract kicks in. Perreault coming on board probably after next year seems to have some of the same things Artemi has.
I expect Gabe to turn pro after his latest college season is done. Unless he somehow takes a backwards step.

Agreed and I would trade Othmann. I just don’t see it and would trade him while you can get value. Seems like best case he’s an offensive somewhat physical middle 6 winger. Can always sign those guys as free agents and there are guys like Berard and Sykora in the system who project as similar players who are better defensively. Get a late 1st like they did for Nils Lundkvist or a 2nd if not.

Still holding out hope for Kakko. Floor is a 40 point defensively strong winger as he demonstrated 2 years ago and there’s still potential for a much better player. It’s worth the risk for the upside and if he doesn’t get any better let him walk as an rfa or ufa in the next two years.

Othmann brings a physical style and is an agitator in the top 9. I'd take that over a big soft inconsistent often injued Kakko and 6 years later still waiting for him to breakout. Imagine if he never does. Othmann reminds me of Ryan Hartman. Patience is the key with physical players.

Othmann is still young and has only played 1 pro season so far. Kakko on the other hand is pretty much a finished product. Will be entering his 6th season. I don't see top six potential with him at all and neither does the management it seems like.

I'd take Othmann over Kakko. Kakko is useless. Big body that plays soft passive and often injured. Lets keep him cause he was the 2ed overall pick. Othmann at least plays with intensity and is a better skater than Kakko. Othmann will learn. Othmann reminds me of Ryan Hartman in my opinion. Kakko is what he is, a bust considered where he was drafted. Kakko just reminds me of Pat Faloon and Dave Chyzowski 2ed overall busts

I disagree, it's only the start of the season, a lot can happen in the next few months

Bro Hartman did absolutely nothing until three years ago when he was 27. Kakko is 23 years old.

Also, Kakko has had what- one serious injury, last year? He isn’t often injured. That’s Chytil. At least Kakko drives possession, which Othmann has shown no ability to do whatsoever.

I was holding hope for him too, but it's painfully obvious his biggest issue is quickness and from what I saw so far this offseason he still hasn't addressed that. Worst case scenario we have what he is and he's paid accordingly, and if this is what he is they should be using him on the pk.

Not if he is stuck in Hartford
