This is what "running it back" looks like unfortunately. We don't have a choice but still.

I haven't posted, or lurked even in quite some time, but it's the same exact team, looking for a different result & we all know how that goes.

Can we wait and see what the roster looks like before declaring the team "exact same"?

I don't see Bonino, Wheeler, Goodrow, Pitlick, or, Gustaffson for starters and zero percent chance that any of these players are on this team.

Compare apples to apples. Don't compare this roster to last year's post deadline roster (which still isn't the same). Compare opening night rosters to each other because that's a bit more fair.

Also, this deadline we will have A LOT more space to add that "final piece" then we did last year. There are other wild cards - will Kakko take a step, will Chytil stay healthy, will Jones be a mainstay, will Miller take a step, will Smith fit in with KZ, will one of Othmann or Berard make the team, will Estrom make the team, etc...

Let's see where we're at opening night.

Ok, I've seen enuf to draw some initial conclusions.

Bottom 6.....
You know where I stand on both Eds + Rempe

I wanted Trouba + Lindgren moved earlier.

Mancini is very impressive, and if we could make space for him by moving Trouba, he should get immediate first crack at 3RD.
We can't immediately move Trouba. MAYBE later this season if he relents, or next post season if he doesn't.
Ok, we can't deal him NOW, BUT we can play him elsewhere where there is less demand on his skating, 4RW, and he can be a depth/emergency 3RD

Now, mirabile dictu, the welcome stunner is that Robertson looks good paired w/Mancini!!!!
Don't look a gift horse....

I am aware actual NHL is a bigger load than preseason rookie skirmishes and games are not NHL.
I get there will be a learning curve.
I get there will be some ugly moments.
I don't fuggin care.
I want the temporary learning process to start NOW and be over by playoffs.
Stop deferring to vets
for once listen to bern
AND DO IT

So...
we deal Lindy b'c his value will not be higher than it is now [by now I mean either now or as soon as early in the season there is an injury upping his return]. Fortescue + our #1 pick this yr are 1-2 yrs away, so we will have to stopgap.
that means
KAM - Fox
Scanlin/Harpur - Schneider
Robertson - Mancini
with Trouba as your depth 3RD til dealt

As to Fs, bottom 6 now, top 6 another post
3rd line: glad to see Cuylle - Chytil - Kakko is a thing. They looked good. KK was not spectacular but reliably solid; barring injury this will be a great year for him.

4th line: They said Othmann has to be top 9 if not top 6.
I "disagree"* with an asterisk to emphasize context.
bread will be gone, I'm not tying up huge $$$$$$$$$$ for his extension, he knows it.
Can't say when before, but before his deal is up, he will be dealt to avoid a bad look for everyone.
The only way that does not happen [on paper] is if there are multiple injuries at W and moving Panarin is defeated by bad timing.

So Othmann -> bread successor at some pt
In the meantime, he WOULD be a great LW fit w/Eds centering Rempe at RW.

Unfortunately, Oth has to go to AHL to start b'c Trouba = 4RW
Eds - Rem - Trouba

but our bottom 6 is very solid, and guys will be playing together which helps develop chemistry

We have enuf emergency depth, deal Vesey

Mo impressions, #2

top 6 and G
so I was right about Garand
I could have been wrong, but I was right.
If Martians kidnapped shesty, he could step in under Quick w/Louie D depth help

If there were no [hard] cap, I'd pay Igor and not go here
But cap is REAL and HARD

So wanna make a push to do
Shesty + Zib +
for
Nylander ++
TOR will want to extend Shesty first and we are ok, shoe on the other foot, etc

while a righty shot we think w/Matthews as pivot so sliding to RD when they play top talent line
Nylander is listed as a pivot

So
Kreider - Nylander - Smith to start

there is a value in keeping and moving LaF, depending on the return
for now, keep bread - Tro - LaF

til later peeps
peace out

Chytil taking hard jolts and being okay is a good sign but thats hardly the end of it.

With his style and how he likes to lug the puck he is going to have to be extremely aware of who he is lined up against.

Good to know he went home and did the exact same training with the exact same people for the past 5 years. It's really been paying off dividends...
People still defending him like it's year 1/2.

We are looking at a bottom 6 defensive specialist AT BEST. Everything else is pure cope.

I will gladly eat crow when I'm wrong, but even the crow has freezer burn at this point.

I refuse to believe the Trouba photo is unaltered.

This is the NHL guys. Players here don't practice/scrimmage the way you think about those things. They cross-check. They hit. They push. They trip. They slash. If you don't, you don't stick around very long.

It’s the exact same team and issues as last year. Doesn’t matter about the 1 young guy who is going to make the roster. Also who cares about the f***ing deadline, we have no more picks to give up lol and we will be retooling next year when this core fails again.

I know I’m being negative but this is the same trash as last year.

Also, trouba should be booed because he sucks a bag of dicks at hockey. Not because of anything else.
