A Kakko for Farabee trade makes quite a bit of sense for both teams. Farabee is an offensive winger who plays with pace. I see him as a guy who will likely carve out a Reilly Smith-like career which is nothing to scoff at. Top-6 winger with skill and speed. Maybe a bit more points but hovering around that 55-60 point mark likely.

Farabee's 5v5 Corsi numbers are just okay and he his deployment leans towards offensive opportunities which makes sense. He can play both LW and RW although he prefers RW.

Farabee makes $5m for 3 more years. That's a contract that the team gave him expecting him to take the next step and he hasn't done so. In his first 2 years of his 6 year deal he had 39 points in 82 games (35 at 5v5) and 50 points in 82 games (41 at 5v5). He's 24 years old so he's nearing the point where he is what he is.

Kakko has upside and coming off an injury-plagued season but his defensive metrics are superb and he makes good plays in small areas of the ice. Something Torts would love. With Philly getting Mitchkov over, along with Konecny and Tippett, they may prefer a smaller cap hit and style of play Kakko can bring than another skilled winger.

From the Rangers perspective, Farabee would be a really nice, long term addition to that Zibanejad line and help increase depth scoring on the team. They have some younger wingers who probably top-out as 3rd line guys (Berard, Cuylle, Edstrom, Chmelar) with varying degrees of size that taking a chance on a skilled winger may make some sense.

I am going to call it now, Skinner is going to sign dirt cheap somewhere, like Colorado, and put up 60 points and 35 goals

I wonder if he will be dirt cheap. For all his negatives he is still a proven scorer. If the pre is right teams should be interested.

He should be, he's going to be making plenty of money from that buyout still. Signing cheap for a contender where he gets a role in the top-6? Do that for a year, then cash in for one more big deal next summer. He would be 33, all goes well and he could get 4-5 more years I think.

If Vancouver can't land Guentzel, I wonder if they go after Skinner.

I saw Guentzel was looking for 8.5m AAV. That's pretty reasonable if he's high on the Rangers list.

I don't think Zegras is what this team needs right now, unless he's replacing Chytil. But I do think he ends up here ultimately. Training with Kreider & Prentiss is huge, because even if you think he's a bit distracted in his career now, I think attaching him to the hip with Mr. Ranger will lock him in.

If Drury is really looking at young "buy low" guys like Farabee and Zegras (and hopefully McGroarty), I like that line of thinking. We'd become a better team and get younger, and put a stable of players around Fox and Lafreniere's age range, for the next era.
Right on. Always depending on the cost, of course.

If he will really sign cheap should we be in on it? We need scoring. He is a legit 30 goal guy with speed.

Well we just saw the same thing with Duchene last offseason and he signed 1x3.
Wow I did not know that. Interesting. Do you think we should look in to him if Skinner is willing to sign for 1 year at 3 mill?

For me I will print it out and place it on the inside of my bathroom door.
Nothing makes a Ranger fan sh!t then the memory of his time as GM here.
Now the question is, where to place this now that the new portrait is there:

I’m probably going to hang it in the back of my garage in case I don’t stop in time when backing up my car.

I'm not a big fan of Skinner but he can score and you would think if the Rangers picked him up he'd have a lot of motivation to play his best.

Kakko even by his own acknowledgement wasn't able to fit into our top 6. I didn't think Wheeler was any better....worse as far as two way game and though Roslovic had his moments there was a lot left to be desired there too. He's not a great top 6 option.

I think NYR Viper laid out the case for a Kakko/Farabee deal very well. Farabee is a good player. Kakko would have a chance to thrive under Torts. There are elements to his game that I think Torts would like very much. If I remember Torts and Farabee had some issues last year so a change of scenery for both players might work well.

Happy Trails Slats, never reached the pinnacle here with a Cup but he was pretty instrumental in rebuilding the organization's reputation post lockout/Dark Ages. He certainly had his misses, but the franchise was a model of consistency under him, whether some fans want to accept it or not.

My antenna is up given the news out of MSG over the last 8 hours. Knicks make a massive move sacrificing futures for a guy who is a perfect fit, thrilling their fans and players. Longtime Rangers Imperator retires the next morning. The runway seems pretty clear for Drury to make a splash, it's his show now. he needs to put his stamp on the team and be aggressive now, imo.

Oh yeah and the draft is in 2 days at the Dolan owned Sphere. Seems relevant.
