I think if he truly grasped their level of stink both would be gone right nowLindgren and Trouba both stink and its clear Drury knows this as he tried to trade Dr. Trouba
I don't think it's not from lack of trying (as we saw in Trouba's case).I think if he truly grasped their level of stink both would be gone right now
So when rempe is skating and no one touches him and he loses his feet from under him, there is no better phrase than “out of control”.Not picking on you, but I keep seeing this pretty odd iteration of Rempe’s skating being “ out of control (mind you, this is coming from a guy who has not walked for 18 years).”
I am pretty sure what you guys are talking about is balance, in which case I agree, His balance is not strong enough, and it’s kind of pronounced more than it is for other younger players. Possibly because of his size, well definitely in part., and part of it is probably because he never expected to be in the NHL…
The idea that he cannot “control“ his skating speed is a ridiculous one that we need to abandon.
What is, in fact, more likely is that he intends to skate really hard, but does not have the endurance yet to do it at a sustained pace. That’s what I see with him. And that’s more of a discipline issue that’s just going to take time and exposure to improve, and if it has not by next spring, I really don’t think he will be impact the team as well as he did this past season.
Balance is easy to type, but also not accurate. It’s his skating motion in relation to how he moves his body. That’s not balance."Balance" is minimally easier to type.
EDIT: I mean he never trained as though he'd make it. Could be wrong.
Rempe's a semi-uncoordinated 21-year-old in Andre the Giant's body and by all accounts seems very dedicated to his job and improving his skillset. He will become more accustomed with how to move, use his body, and what he can/can't do - I think we'll see a decently improved player next season. He doesn't have to shore up every single one of his deficiencies in a single off-season, but I agree that his skating/movement was hopefully #1 on the list this summer. Between whatever training+the fighting bootcamp/s, there's a chance this kid comes into camp next season like a water buffalo on skates. He can take about 45 punches to the mouth in 15 seconds and not fall down so I have a lot of hope for him on the actual hockey-side of things (surprising with my username, I know).Balance is easy to type, but also not accurate. Balance in hockey is how do you handle when someone pushes you. Can you maintain stance with contact.
Yo this summer is BORING
Here’s the thing. I’ve never seen a 21 year old make the nhl and be this bad at fundamentals in hockey.Rempe's a semi-uncoordinated 21-year-old in Andre the Giant's body and by all accounts seems very dedicated to his job and improving his skillset. The deal I propped, even if it could not have been done once OS signed, could have been done earlier. Thanks Trouba and Rangers GM for that.
Imagine if they had the cap space to sign Holloway and Broberg
PLEASE BOO TROUBA ON OPENING NIGHT
To me “trying” would’ve been buying Trouba out and trading Lindgren and then you have 7 million plus assets to get two NHL players, easily doableI don't think it's not from lack of trying (as we saw in Trouba's case).
Have you tried taking in a Broadway show or two? I hear they made a musical of the 1980s movie The OutsidersYo this summer is BORING

I think he's far less of an oaf than people give him credit for, but we all understand that fighting was his main draw and it was a *big (read: the only) part of why he found himself on the NYR roster. He's proven that he can provide a service in the NHL and I think even more importantly, excels at that service. Plus he's shown that there is actually something between his ears unlike a lot of other guys that pass through here and he himself understands he has to improve other facets of his game to become an every-night player. He's a known quantity now and teams want/need that, regardless of the role when the person is in the top 3-5 in that role when they enter the league. Here’s the thing. You can say he’s young, and he is. But these are clear fundamentals. If he’s going to be a face puncher then there’s no reason to fix them. If he wants to be anything other, then he can’t be in the nhl to fix them…
Rempe getting 9-12 minutes a game without some massive jump in his game is a sure fire way to lose that game.I think he's far less of an oaf than people give him credit for, but we all understand that fighting was his main draw and it was a *big (read: the only) part of why he found himself on the NYR roster. No one is saying or thinking he's going to improve to the point of being a top6, 20g-20a player capable of 15-17 minutes a night. The chance of him becoming peak Tom Wilson is infinitely small. The exciting thing to me is that he becomes our Cal Clutterbuck, our Matt Martin. A ~9-12min/game, ~7g-~10a absolute f***ing menace of a bottom 6er that helps solidify the roster and gives this team some serious and much-needed snarl. In his end-of-year interview he talked almost exclusively about knowing he has to round out his game. I'm not too keen on how contracts and all that shit works, but from a quick google search he's still on his ELC and it looks like he can move between the AHL and NHL without waivers. If that is right then I'm sure he'll be up and down depending on his progress and matchups.
I never said he should be gifted minutes for no reason? I'm saying, by his own admission, he needs to work on every aspect of his game in order to become a regular roster player. If he make strides and earns more ice time, I would like to see him get it over a bland nothing of a player like Brodzinski. I don't think he'll ever play 82 games in the NHL and I don't think he plays more than 50% of the regular season games this upcoming year, but the fact that he is eager to add new things to his game to show that he can be a regular player says to me that his priorities are in the right place. He doesn't want to just be a fighting spectacle and knows that a lot of his game is lacking for the NHL. And like I said, he doesn't need to shore up every single deficiency he has in one off-season in order to become a "bare minimum" player. He's already a bare minimum player who saw 17 regular season games and 11 playoff games on a team with Cup aspirations while almost quite literally doing nothing but fighting. That's below bare minimum in the NHL by basically any standard yet there he was, playing multiple playoff games. He averaged 6mins/game in the playoffs - I think you're underestimating how the team already views him.Rempe getting 9-12 minutes a game without some massive jump in his game is a sure fire way to lose that game.
Rempe gets the other parts of his game to the nhl 4th line level and yeah he could be our Matt Martin, but I think you’re underestimating the jumps he needs to take.
stickhandling
Body control
Stick checks
Shooting
Passing
Are all things he needs to get to the nhl level to be an every game 9-12 minute player.
And when I say nhl level, I mean bare minimum 4th liner.
At his current level in some of those things I’m not sure he’s an ahl player.
And as someone who’s been lucky to skate against guys at the echl/ahl/nhl level in my life, the gulf between each of those levels is massive.
For f***’s sake.23 years ago today, Eric Lindros was traded here for Pavel Brendl, Jan Hlavac, Kim Johnsson and a 3rd round pick.
I don’t think so. He’s shown the willingness to get rid of vets after he recognizes they’re shitty (Reaves/Nemeth/Goodrow/Bonino). The problem is how long he takes to recognize it, if he ever even recognizes it at all. Drury has no idea which players are good or bad. He can’t assess talent and probably has CTEDrury is just too buddy buddy with the players. He can make changes if he wants but he chooses to make the vets comfortable and happy.
Sportsbooks are showing confidence.

Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck both had individual seasons in junior with more points and goals than Rempe had his entire junior career.
