Guentzel at 8 until he is 37 or 38 years old over panarin at 11.6 expiring in two years and walking at age 34?

I generally cant stand panarin but signing a guy like guentzel to age 37 or 38 is an interesting strategy...

If my focus is on winning within the next 3 years? 100%

all other things considered? No I’d take the guy with the shorter time commitment that I hope I can get out of ASAP.

I was wrong, Kadri is 33 and has 5 years left, not 4
That is going to be guentzle, same situation with big money left and a high age. The only saving grace is as the cap increases a lot in the coming years that percentage of cap number will drop quickly. Same as what will happen with the inevitable Igor extension.

I dont want either one of them ha.

NYR should be looking to get a younger piece to fill a need like Necas but the issue is that we keep pissing away our assets at the deadlines for rentals so we don't have the chips for a trade like that.

Well there’s also the barrier of being in direct competition with the Canes.

I can’t imagine they’d be doing business with the team that has ended their season twice in the last 3 years.

We need more crazy like this.
You obviously hung out for too long in the hotel lobby with Dr Thompson and his attorney... but it's fun (and would be hilarious if they pulled even half of it off)

What president's trophy winning/conference final reaching team has ever had 50% roster turnover? Maybe it should happen... But zero chance it does. Hockey management types are pretty conservative. Blowing up a contender doesn't happen.

Why are we looking for a “younger” piece and not just “better” pieces.

This team has plenty of youth. They just need to get better in a couple of key areas.

I love that first trade so much. Not a chance in hell Ottawa entertains it.

I was obviously (or so I thought) being sarcastic lol I’m not sure any of those trades would go through in a video game

I checked his profile pic on Hockey DB. My expert opinion is....

His neck is too long. And like I said earlier.

It's the kiss of death for the Rangers. Bruce Graham, Lee Falardeau. And this Finn.

Hell do fine anywhere else.

Now, Suburban Phoenix. Then, Long Island
They 100% woulda ignored his shit.

The Rangers stopped playing the 1-3-1 with any zeal around January. I don't think Laviolette stays after this year. They already turned him out, he just has better presence so they haven't openly rebelled a la Strome did with Quinn.
It’s tough for a coach to get the team to play 1-3-1 for a long period of time. Thats one of the reasons the Devils consistently turned over coaches and guys like Guy Boucher can’t hold a job. Players get sick of it.

Trouba for a 1st would be nice. Trouba for Zegras would be a home run. Anaheim makes too much sense to me as Zegras would be huge and they could also include Gudas as a Trouba replacement. Not sure of the legitimacy of the site though.

I'm not sure what they didn't "buy in" to. They were one of the NHLs most resilient teams all season long and even had some tough comebacks in the playoffs as well.
Their flaws were things I think mostly have to do with personnel. You're not going to get Zibanejad and Kreider to play a heavy forecehcking and cycling game, you're not going to make Wennberg magically score more goals or Kakko to get out of his head once he's down the rabbit hole. You're not going to make Trouba play up to his contract or Lindgren be useful

at most I guess I'd say I wish he'd push them more to make plays on the breakout but in all I don't think I saw anything about this team as unwilling, just they weren't the same type of team as Florida (or Carolina).

They never played the 1-3-1 all the time and more like other teams picked it apart later on, especially in the playoffs.
How long Laviolette stays has to do with how far the Rangers go next year
Yeah I don't see any blame falling on Lavy

It's as if some think he can & should say "Bread... go to the paint & score a goal" & it'll work.

Coaches can only impact the game so much.

Anyone feel it was fireable for Knoblauch to grind McJesus & Drai into the ground in the 3rd of game 7?

That's a coach's decision. Z, Bread & Trouba being abysmal vs FL isn't on him. It's on them.
