Zegras' skill level is far above Kakko. I don't care if Zegras isn't as good defensively. Defense can be taught. His level of talent can't be. He's also never been on a team like the Rangers. The Ducks are a mess and he carried them offensively for two years and then got hurt.

Kakko couldn't stick in the top 6 because his offensive talent isn't high enough. He's a 3rd/4th line defensive specialist, that can be filled via free agency or trade for depth.

Players with Zegras' talent level and age don't get traded often. If the Rangers can get Zegras it would be a no brainer. Especially if they don't give up much to do it.
He's got such an insane amount of talent that he's only putting up 60 points?
Tons of great players on bad teams put up alot more than 60 points, especially getting pp1 time.

Skjei got us schneider. 1:1 thats a move I absolutely make over and over and over again.
I dont care about moving him too early, we got an unprotected (better of two) first round picks.
That was an insane swing. And then covid shut the league down.
Had we won that round vs carolina, that unprotected first would've been 1st overall, and would've been Laf.

Rangers traded with Calgary to move up and draft Schneider. It's not as simple as 1:1 with CAR.

But the sentiment I agree with. Skjei is still the exact kind of defenseman the Rangers need.

skjei the type of player yes, for the money he's going to get? absolutely not.
He's gonna get at least 8x7 years, and he's not that.

Drury does seem to avoid big swings in UFA.

I did, and Edge did too. The popular opinion on this board at the time was shitting on both Farabee and Brady Tkachuk leading into that draft. The hindsight on here is genuinely amazing sometimes.

I can vouch for you and edge on this.

FWIW, I liked both guys (Tkachuk and Farabee.) I loved Dobson who has had a distinctly different career path than I thought he would. That was my guy.

I've been meaning to ask you this, but what was your username then before the GoAwayStaal bit?

Dobson and Wahlstrom were my two. Ironically both to the Isles. Wahlstrom may not even stick in the league, Dobson looks like a cornerstone defender you build a defense around

Kakko's numbers in 22/23 were only remotely OK because he was shoehorned into a top 6 role.

It's not like he added anything much to that line. They were having major issues scoring.
40 5v5 points for a 21 year old season is not just remotely ok. It’s literally the best Colton has managed and he was 27.

I think it would be cool to have a night with Ana de Armas, but the chances of that happening are about as high.

Drury is looking to improve the roster, what would he use to flip that pick to?
Frankly, I don’t understand the rumor that he’s looking to package Kakko and #30 to move up in the Draft, but it’s out there so I went with it. It’s also out there that he’s potentially looking to package Kakko and Trouba. Throw it all together into one stew, and Detroit actually makes a lot of sense as the opposite party.

The only way this "Kakko to move up in the draft" to make sense is if that higher pick is immediately flipped for something. Then again, if all this talk about Dolan just wanting a spotlight trade for the sake of it is true (which I don't believe but haven't followed the Rangers for long enough), then who the f*** knows

Skjei would instantly be our 2nd best defenseman and he doesn't miss time. He's a great skater and can move the puck, he's also got the size/reach.

Rangers need to completely revamp the D core that can't move the puck. Our D are incapable of basic break outs.

Rangers should never have traded Skjei to begin with.
As others said, dealing BS got us Schneid, so disagree there
As to the bold, all true, which is why price is WWWAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY up
I'd be willing to overpay him a mil a mil and a half BUT ONLY for the bern way: short term 1-2 yrs and no trade protections

KK was also the RW on Mika and Kreiders line. Like 8 other players before him. 9th being Butch, who actually worked.

Like I said, I'm not totally against the prospect of getting Zegras. I'm scared of what they would pay to get him, and how they would deploy him. That is all.
Have courage my friend
and remember, usually, fortune favors the bold!
