I dunno if Will's girl is right but apparently the Rangers are in on Novak.

That would be a good add, he's a good player.

Novak reminds me of Copp as fit from a couple years ago. The upside is he would be expected to do less as the 3C as opposed to a top 6 role.

Lauzon is terrible, what is the obsession with this guy.

Well that's foolish of you.

Obviously there's some nuance here. I think the step that Laf has to take is far less than the step that others have to take, but yeah, I think he has to be even better, still. I wouldn't say he's been "absolutely dominant."

He's been very good and has solidified himself here, but, if nothing else he needs to finish a good deal better. I think it's definitely fair to say the analytics in that checklist probably don't take bad luck into account and so are slightly flawed, but it's slightly off, not radically off.

Same goes for Miller. I think he needs to be a little better and eliminate some inconsistency, not a ton better. But he needs to get better.

This isn't to say those two should be replaced. They are eventual solutions, not problems.
It's really not though. Miller was a late first round pick. He's by far surpassed all expectations for a player in that range.

Laf could and should have at least another 7-10 goals. He should be closer to the 25-30 mark than the 17 he's at now.

Can’t wait to see Kakko suffer playing with Gary and Ace, and oh yeah Miller Trouba need to be split up too.

I mean......Lafreniere has been extraordinarily improved with the puck and on offense but his whole line is absolutely horrible defensively. one of the worst in the league.

also Miller is no question having an up and down year, imo.
Fair. But not every like is going to produce offensively while being defensively competent. I'll definitely concede there is room for improvement defensively but let's get the offensive engine going on him before we work on the other side of the puck.

Miller is what he is. An inconsistent 40 point defenseman. A solid top 4 guy.

Something around Laf, Perreault, and a 1st I think would get their attention. Look this is a 26 year old superstar center, the last time we missed out on one of those wasn’t great. If there is a possibility that another one is out there the Rangers need to truly explore it. It also depends on what Pettersson wants and maybe the acquisition cost isn’t as high as we think.
Would not trade Laf AND Perreault in the trade. You've got a guy in Petterson who is a 1.2PPG guy this year and last, before that didn't break PPG. You've got two players 3-5 years younger who are quite likey PPG players (or better) when they reach his age. Plus a 1st rounder? That's a lot. Plus he's going to want what? 12 million per? 11 at LEAST? He may ask for 13m per. For 8 years. Maybe one of Laf/GP and a salary like Trouba or Zib (both of whom would have to waive) going the other way. I mean I guess it depends on what you think Laf and GP top out at, but really do you trade two (future) 80pt players, PLUS, for one 100 point player?

You are overvaluing our guys and undervaluing Pettersson. I think Perrreault is a great prospect and Laf is having a very nice season but to assume both will become what you say and passing up on a top-6 or 7 center in the league who is only in his mid 20s would be a mistake if it is even a possibility.
