Portzline doubled-down on Panarin to NYR in his recent post on the Athletic.

You guys heard it first on Blueshirts Breakaway during his interview.

He wanted to go to the Rangers, but we didn't want him. We're rebuilding and he wouldn't have fit in.

I'm pretty sure that this was not the case. He stated multiple times that being on a competitive team was his priority.

The rumors about us being a possible destination fizzled immediately when he was permitted to talk to teams.

Panarin to NYR would be awesome, the only issue is that he is a right shot and therefore doesn't fit our powerplay very well. Not sure it's an improvement to bump Zibanejad from the top unit to make room for Artemi - and then he'd be the triggerman and not the playmaker since our PPQBs are all right handed. OTOH he'd be perfect for the PP if he shot left, replacing Zuccarello as the primary playmaking forward.

But considering how great he is 5v5 I'm not sure if I care.

You make room for Panarin. You can have Panarin shooting off the side board while Zib would be at the top left circle on the PP.

The Rangers will be starting to make the shift by next offseason or should be as long as young guys continue to progress this year. I wouldnt be opposed to re-signing Zucc as well. Trading Hayes at the deadline this year for assets. One of Spooner/Nams as well. But I could see this lineup in ‘19-‘20:

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Panarin-Chytil-Kravtsov
Namestnikov/Spooner-Andersson-Zucc
Vesey-Howden-Fast

if gorton wants to win a championship in his lifetime next summer he unloads some guys at the deadline drafts in the top 5 and grabs another late first or so then throws good old fashion New York Ranger UFA cash at both Karlsson and Panarin. Both of whom want to be Rangers.

Kreider Zibanejad Buchnevich
Panarin Chytil Kravstov
Andersson Namestnikov Fast
Vesey Howden Meskanen/Lettieri/Fontaine

Skjei Karlsson
Hajek Shattenkirk
Smith Pionk
Staal somewhere who knows

that’d be a lot of fun to watch

Zucc Hayes Spooner and at least one of staal/Smith, maybe even Georgiev if needed, to sweeten a return should be dealt between now and the deadline

There’s a serious return in that group

(Drools uncontrollably)

Oh man, especially if all of ‘em have killer seasons.

This is what we should hope for, those three exceeding expectations would put us in a FANTASTIC spot.

Getting the picks/pieces we want from another GM is the tricky part though.Gorton isnt going to make trades just to make them.

Panarin-Chytil-Kravstov is something I need in my life.

Secure a top 5 pick in 2019 and have another draft full of top90 picks and we’re in business.

I mean this really should be the plan. out of the group I mentioned above you should be able to turn that into a second first round pick considering hayes, and a second rounder or two as well. at the very least. plus maybe a few more decent prospects.

add that to a top 5 pick and a couple of big time UFA signings next summer and you're really back into the mix. we've got a lot of talent on this roster already as I mentioned.

by the way mark my words Rykov will be the steal of that trade deadline. I think he's a Russian Mcdonagh. big time minutes eater. I like him more and more. he's going to be a player for us no doubt in my mind.

There are plenty of ways to make it work

Yeah, I like this. The good news also is that we’ll get asset returns on Zucc, Spooner, ADA to keep the pipeline alive

Bold is key. Move the guys that are going to cost the most. Spooner, Vesey, Names are all stopgap players. They'll have 1.25 seasons left on their contracts at THIS coming deadline, feasible that 1, if not 2 of them are moved. Staal could be bought out as well.

There's room for both of these guys, and the Rangers have a ton of years of control on these RFAs
