Ah, gotcha. Honestly, that's about what I expected, erroneously, from Andersson (3C).

I was hoping Andersson would someday be a low end 2C or solid middle 6 C, a guy who could play up and down. Cuylle I kinda expect to be a 20-25 point energy guy, really more of a bottom 6er, even if a pretty good one.

Connor Garland allowed to seek a trade:

He has been mentioned numerous times on here as a potential Rangers target. Team has not much cap space right now; another contract would likely have to go the other way. Need to save as much cap space as possible for possible additions prior to the trade deadline (and I DON'T mean Patrick Kane).

Goodrow for Garland

But there were those among us who advocated things that we should have done differently:

1) Trade Kreider at the deadline to keep rebuilding

Kreider has outperformed his contract by a mile
2) Trade Buch for futures not presents

Hated having to trade him at all. Would've preferred to move somebody else and figure out a way to keep him.
3) Trade De'Angelo before he tanked his value

His situation was handled as poorly as the Rangers could've handled anything. Dumpster fire managing.
4) Not give out the Goodrow contract

He's a valuable piece to a contender. But his contract is an albatross at this point but the cap constraints are sticking it to a ton of teams. Shit, Edmonton can't even field a full lineup according to reports in their first game because of it.
I mean, there are a litany of things we could have done to stay the course with the rebuild

9 first rounders in 5 years. At some point you have to take a step and stop with the youth movement and see what you've got.

You gotta keep drafting till you know you have enough pieces. Laf and Kakko underperforming leave us without enough. We are really short a legit future 1C as well. And we had to go sign Trocheck to make up for it.

What role is Gustafsson looking like he is going to have? Will he be a regular in the lineup? Or will he be switching with Harpur? Will he be a staple on the PP?

What the shit?

Garland at 27 years old had 1 more goal and 6 more points than Laf did last season, and he makes almost 5M
He also has a history of being a very effective and efficient scorer at 5v5, and is a good playdriver and playmaker. But unfortunately we dont have the cap space for him so it doesn't matter.

Should be a regular on the 3rd pairing and probably some reps on PP2 although it seems like Miller was getting a long look on preseason so who knows for sure.

Harpur is in Hartford. Don’t people pay attention to transactions. Jones made the team.

Thanks for your help. I'm not a Rangers fan sorry for not noticing Jones made the team. Neither Harpur or Jones is in their top 6 on the line projections on daily faceoffs. Gustafsson isn't on the pp either. You clearly know better maybe you can provide something constructive.

Kakko might still be a legit 1st line wing. I think we'll know a lot more after this year.

I hold out hope for Lafreniere but I have serious doubts. Hopefully he's on the Mika trajectory where nobody thought he was serious until the rug was pulled out from under him. And, hopefully we can do that without trading him. But... I don't have a ton of hope.

Staple on the 2nd PP, I would think.

Yeah I've been pointing it out for eons now.

We don't lose a damn thing by moving him. And we should be trying to bamboozle someone into taking him ASAP.

Trading kreider would have lost the locker room especially with how good the team was playing. They just couldnt. Management was in a tough spot there. I would not have given out that ridiculous contract though at that time with NMC. He is not an nmc worthy player. I would have traded him at the draft instead as a sign and trade.

Butch got us a second as well. But yeah, we all agree that trade was crap. It should have been blais and a first.

Agree on deangelo. Though who knew he would self implode like that.

Goodrow is a tough pill. Especially the clauses. I wasnt a huge fan of this.

But again this is all moot if laf and kakko were stars. Which is my entire point.

Absolutely going to be flooded with that proposal now but with van adding like a 5th to "balance" it out.

In all seriousness I would wonder if garland at 50 with a 1st and 2nd would make nyr consider it. It's such a weird time for nyr

i was being serious. I’m all for giving Laf time but the clock has been ticking and Garland could help us through this run. Drury didn’t draft Laf and if he’s not a believer behind the scenes, it might be time to move on for everyone’s sake. Another bad half season for him we’d be begging to make a deal like that. Panarin-Chytil-Garland looks awfully nice as a 2nd line.

If he doesn't take a pretty big step the noise is going to get louder and louder and the situation will become untenable. If he's at 20-25 points in January he's going to be deadline fodder.

Sens fan, trying to figure out if i should drop Gustafsson in Fantasy if he isnt on the PP. I know annoying question when you just wanna talk about your season coming up. But I couldnt find any information anywhere.

Looks like Miller will be on the 2nd PP. But with Gus's success there previously under the same coach, I'd probably hold for a second. Either way, he's competing against Fox so I would expect his points to dip significantly.

No, they signed Zibanejad to make up for it since there was basically no obvious path forward to another 1C if they let him walk

Trochek was signed because Chytil hasn't been able to step up into the 2C spot

Barring injuries to Fox or Miller, I wouldn't bet on gustafsson repeating his points and icetime from last year. But I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up on PP2 because I think he's better at it than Miller, there's just no way he'll be on PP1 as long as Fox is healthy, and he's unlikely to be getting top 4 minutes without injuries as well

But as of now it looks like he will be a regular in the lineup and not rotating in and out. Could change depending on how the season goes

*Trocheck was signed because Chris Drury is impatient and doesn’t have vision to see that Chytil was obviously going to be able to be the 2C based to his trajectory*

Chytil couldn't stay healthy. Still can't stay healthy. Hard for them to commit to the guy who hasn't had a full season healthy and who always starts off slow again when he returns from injury.

I love Chytil but it's very obvious why the Rangers weren't ready to trust him as a 2C

You need 3 Centers/Lines. That's why Trocheck was signed.

I mean I think if Chytil had popped and was showing he could be that 2C who would give you a consistent 60 points then they would have looked at someone cheaper than Trocheck for 3rd line duty

Yeah and that’s why Drury will have a 5.6 million 3C on the books for the next 5+ years
