Roster Building Thread - Part VIII (2023-24 season)

Idk, I think people just see highlights on twitter or the occasional high-intensity game, they misjudge other teams and players and their "toughness" and clamor for them but when the players come here they realize they can’t actually do anything lol
The Dale Rolfe, early 80s Smurfs, Brown on Sandstrom, and Carcillo on Gaborik highlights fed into this general idea that the Rangers always try to be soft and classy.

Ed Hospodar literally slapped future Rangers Jay Wells in a playoff series once, and George McPhee beat up Rick Tochett. And let's not forget about Colton Orr.

break up Kreider and Zibs for good.

go get Gourde

Panarin Chytil Laffy
Kreider Trocheck Kakko
Cuylle Zibs Gourde
I like this idea, but I'd run it this way...

Panarin Tro Laf
Kreider Gourde Kakko
Cuyllie Zib Chytil

What does this have to do with our current players who avoid contact like it's their job? Nobody rational on this board is looking to add a tough guy. We need more players with heart and soul or piss & vinegar, but not a goon.

If you think this team is hard to play against or has enough speed or skill, there's no sense in going back & forth. We're on our 3rd coach in 5 years & the same inherent roster issues keep showing up. At some point it becomes fairly obvious the roster construction just isn't good enough. We can revisit this in May & I'll happily eat crow if I'm wrong.
I don’t think they have enough speed or skill, I just said that lol. Did you read what I wrote?

And yes the roster construction is bad. That’s what happens when you take your top line play driving point per game RW and trade him for air, then not replace his production at all. Since Drury keeps trying to fill the hole with rentals, the hole is still there every year, with fewer assets to maneuver around with

Reread what you wrote...you literally contradict yourself. No offense intended, but I don't think you understand the definition of dearth.

Didnt they silence this narrative though when they executed operation Buch 4 Blais? They traded the “soft” skill player for a guy who hits. Then used the remaining cap space to sign a bunch of “sandpaper” shitbags in Reaves, Tinordi, Goodrow, Nemeth. The team then proceeded to squander the single greatest goalie season ever because they repeatedly couldn’t put two pucks in the net.

Reread what you wrote...you literally contradict yourself. Unless you're not clear on the definition of dearth.
I am a complete dumbass who cannot read. I’m typing the word dearth thinking it means a plethora of something lol. Yikes

It happens...we're all human.

Good measuring stick game here. This team is 3rd in the entire league running without 2 of their top 9 players. Fox is just coming back from injury. This should've been expected. 2 bad games, I'm not gonna go crazy over it under the circumstances. There's some valid criticism and legitimate holes to be filled but this team has done very well all things considered.

I get that Lavi doesn't want to touch that Panarin line, but that first line needs to get going somehow. The team hit like 4 posts last game, Kreider and Mika generated numerous grade A chances that they shanked. We'll see how this game goes, they need to produce or its time to break them up. The big guys, including Igor, need to carry this team while we're dealing with injuries

how has he not put Vesey on the top line…He’s outproducing every other player in the bottom 6 and his numbers with Kreider-Zib are low key better than anyone who’s been there since Buchnevich. What does he have to do to get a look there???

The travesty there even more so was that Buch, even while he was here, became a bit of a hard nosed pain in the ass on top of having a high skill level. So it's not like we just traded a whimp for an untapped tuff player. He's got fights under his belt, he cross checked Mantha in the face after the Wilson debacle, he cross checked Marchand into oblivion in retaliation, he got thrown out of a game for a headbutt. Out of all the skill guys we had he probably had the most bite.

After last night's game, I think we can all agree that the way forward is not less Brodzinski, but MOAR BRODZINSKI

Needs are still a rw for the top 6 and a stay at home depth dman. We could grab monohan from mtl and shift chytil to wing when he gets back.

Berggren on Detroit is far from proven, but if Detroit is looking to move him, could Jones for Berggren be a move? Same age, both blocked at their position.

It's a logjam once/if everyone's healthy, though.

Said it in the PGT last night but I think this team has the goods in house once Chytil/Kakko are healthy and Othmann eventually gets called up. A 7D with size who can defend would be nice. The cap situation probably limits what they could do anyway
