If anyone is not pleased with Lindgren, they have to say why, and offer a better alternative for a team that is in competition in a salary cap league:

-They're not going through a retool for at minimum another three years.
-They're not going to just pair Matthew Robertson with Fox.
-They don't have any LHD prospects in the pipeline.
-Most of the league is capped out or close to it this season.

Lindgren is very valuable to this team. He does not stink, and he does not suck.
I really don't understand the urge to move Lindgren. "It's Girardi all over again!" Not at all. It's like signing Girardi to his $3.5 x 3 before the nightmare contract. $4+ for 4 years would bring him to UFA at the same time Girardi was. At THAT point is when you don't want to sign him to 5 years at a prohibitive rate.

Just look at the record with Lindy out of the lineup. It's wild. He has little offensive upside, but his partner more than makes up for it.

I also don't want to resign Gus. He has been playing like a man possessed, but he's about to turn 32 and will be looking for a decent paycheck since he mysteriously topped out at a mere $3m on a one year deal one time.

They need to do a little bit of a retool of their youth in the system, but not the NHL team. I would be just fine with trotting out Jones and Robertson as a tag team for 3LD next season. We have basically ONE prospect at LD beyond that, so it's an issue. We have zero RD prospects.

We have wingers for days, but not much at C with top 6 upside. BMB, but that's about it unless someone really takes off.

For this season and two more, we can run a core of:
20 - 93 - X
10 - 16 - 13
50 - 72 - 24
X - X - 21
(Othmann will be one of those spots, and we'll need a 4C which are available and cheap every off-season)
55 - 23
79 - 8
X - 4
(We've got a couple guys for that last spot, but we're not yet prepared for the post-Trouba era.)
31 - X
(I don't want to rush Garand, so we can get one-year stopgaps for cheap until he's ready.)

This team is a contender and I don't see that changing just because Gus, Quick, and a couple depth forwards walk. Our window is now and we have the youth to backfill. It's basically an EA dynasty easy mode. The only thing we don't have is cap space until after Trouba and/or Panarin leave. Any cap increase until then will have to go to the young core progressing. If we find a taker for Goodrow, then we're an absolute wagon with breathing room to boot.

Not to get off topic, but if Igor's number this season stay consistent- it's a sign that his .935 season was a career year and that .915-.916 Igor is the norm.

Don't get me wrong, that's still very good in a league that has seen average save percentage fall from .915 in the middle of last decade to a disturbing .903 this season. Who knows, we might bring the old 'quality control cutoffs' of .900 and 3.00 back soon if scoring keeps going up.

But, is it worth a long term extension, for a guy who gets injured often?
Valley the other day said Save % is down across the league. Lower than post lockout when half the game was played 5v4.

This statement is so far off. The current state of goal tending in the League is at an all time low, There are a number of good teams that will suffer from poor goal tending including the Devils and Carolina.
And you don’t need a good keeper to win the Cup. Rangers unfortunately know this better than most of the other teams in the league.

If we plan and are in negotiation to re-sign Gus....

would you sign Bear and trade Jones for a forward?

I'm pretty sure he's on a one year deal, and although my first preference is to get the kids up here to get some looks, I'd be more open to bring Vlad back then what else is likely to be out there. He walks at end of year but brings some firepower to the lineup, plays with an edge as we know, and is a big time locker room fit. All good vibes for a team charging to playoffs. Doesn't scream of trying to break the wheel and make it better.

Also, they said the same of him before coming here. Maybe being washed. I think he probably needs the right environment to be motivated. Not a great overall trait but NYC was clearly a big motivator. IMO he held out as long as he could to possibly come back to the Rangers but ended up in Ottawa as a next best option.
I'm not anti Tarasenko nor anti bring Oth up but I do not think we will win a cup based on either of those 2 moves. I believe we need a guy that can be counted on to deliver the mail when the passing game is not there. I really think we have a 2-3 year window based on the age of our top line guys. I'd like to see us go for it now. In 3 years we will have Zibs, Vince and CK probably in big decline or gone. Bread will be aged and gone. Those are our top line players. Other than Laf we do not have much in terms of replacements. I do not know what KK will end up being long term. I'm also worried about Chytil long term. In my view now is the time to go for it is something great becomes available.

How about not trading anyone from the roster that is dominating the league in standings?
I give the coaches and players huge props for their great start but we are not a dominant team. We are a playoff team so we do have a chance but we are not a dominant team imo.

Trading Schneider and keeping Jones is bananas. Our memories from a far off time like *checks notes* ten days ago fade into nothingness.

The longer we don't see Jones the fluffier the descriptions of him is going to get. Getting a nice young 4th liner for him would be such a win.

let's keep Jones and see what we can get for Schneider
We do not have the depth to make a move like this. You want Mackey or Hollowell to be the #7?

Organizationally this team needs C and D in the system. If this team keeps their #1 pick, they cannot take another winger.

I am still not sold on this team being built for the playoffs.
They're not. It's a very inconvenient truth but they didn't lose to the Devils because of Gallants malfeasance (wtf do they think he did anyway), they lost because after Game 2 they sorta stopped trying very hard and started taking a lot of physical shortcuts.

Lav can hopefully get them to not give up like that and that'll matter a lot, but this team wins based on 4 or 5 guys with incredible hockey IQ more than any other reason.

Those issues were happening from day 1 last season with Gallant. I do not see an effort issue with this team and Laviolette will not let that happen.

This is a lot of revisionist history.

What exactly is revisionist.

If you wanna tell me they were really poorly conditioned last year I'd totally buy that.

I will argue that Drury’s drafting record will begin with the upcoming 2024 draft.
The past two drafts that Chris Drury oversaw was with scouts left over from the Davidson/Gorton era.
I believe all those scouts are gone replaced with Drury men.
