Detroit seems cooly detached bordering ambivalent about its cap situation, esp since they can throw Franzen on LTIR. But that not withstanding, they are still 3 and hair over the cap.

total 11.8+

LD Staal 5.7 x 4 but buyout candidate next yr
G Pavlec 1.3 expiring
F DeSharnais 1.0 expiring

net gain to Wing = 3.0
that's their $ for AA
Tambo has outside 20% chance to make 4th line
DD conceivably movable

Rangers upgrade backup G this year + next, unless they move Howard next yr for younger guy who pushes him
Green moved as a rental when injury surfaces, recover cap
and McIl back is available enforcer at the A, plus, sticks it to AV.

Hayes going to put up 50+ points but with terrible underlying stats and make everyone mad

On paper, IMO this helps them with both overall and structural cap issues so like I said, don't see why RW hasn't worked out something w/JG already.
Staal doesn't help, but he can be bought out next year, and the benefit for them is immediate.

And this is why I wanted them to go the extra mile, which AV seemingly was opposed to at each turn. Chance SLIM but a chance he could recover on the knees. Never what he was before, but MAYBE could get good enough.

Tambo I didn't see as being all that and a bag of chips, but okay, he was picked high, whether it was on merit or a favor to somebody, fine. But now we see what he is, he would have less chance to get called up than McIl if he were here. Tambs might make 4th line w/Detroit.

And wow, looking at some of the early 2000's rosters...blast from the past. I was in college watching early versions of NHL center ice and seeing the Rangers stink it up...

Why be rigid minded about doing that if, as I demonstrated it is not unavoidably necessary?
DRW come out ahead on a $ deal. That is the premise.
The facts fit the premise.

And the way to call out a coach is to trade for a career AHL-defenseman who was deemed not good enough to claim off waivers twice last season
 
I wouldn't call it a weakness. Its not much worse than center, in terms of depth, the problem is that the depth has went from very good to average and there is a lack of stars to make up for only average depth.
 
If Miller is moving to C, he should be with Nash and Zucc. He'll be able to play his game with 2 guys that play solid 200 ft game styles and can only help his offense blossom more.

He's going to mentor a player who's not here?

He's here to bridge the gap for a year or two. The only ready goalie among the prospects is signed in Russia, the rest aren't yet ready. In a year or two, I think they'll be some movement on Pavelec. Its entirely possible he sucks and they bring in someone else before that, but if he does an okay job, I think most likely two years.
 
Disagree. I think Hayes would be a lot better suited between Nash and Zucc. The one thing that combo would be better at than if JT was centering it would be puck protection.

Georgiev is here now, is projected to be a callup this season. I think Shesty is in Hartford in the next year or two at most.

It's going to be Vesey-Hayes-Nash...they played together last year. Looks like Zucc is going to start with Kreider and Zib.

How is Pavelec gonna mentor Georgiyev if he's playing in a different league? I think your point is correct to an extent. He's here to bridge the gap, but I don't see any mentoring happening. I also don't think Georgiyev will be ready this year. He's never played at a level higher than Liiga. There's usually a big adjustment to a league like the AHL, and an even bigger adjustment to the NHL.

Shestyorkin will be NHL or KHL. These top Russian players have all this leverage. And it'll be NHL because the team understands whats at stake, but SKA is as rich of a team as there is outside the NHL. They aren't going to let him go early. Two more years, hopefully. They certainly aren't letting him out of his contract for him to play for a Rangers farm team.
